章節 4: Soul stealing skeletons.
It had my soul? What?
"As your soul is not with you it will start to wither away, as will you. So find me and free me, before your time runs out."
And just like that, the voice was gone. I realised my eyes were closed and opened them to find Jason, Percy, Nico and Chiron crowding around me.
Oh gods, what just happened? Oh no, was I going to die? No, stop it, don't think like that.
"Hey buddy you ok?" asked Jason. I didn't know how to answer so I ended up making an 'uhh' noise but my voice was shaking so I sounded more like a goat. They were all looking at me expectantly but I don't know if I could explain what I'd just heard without freaking out.
Just then I was saved by the sound of a conch horn. What that meant I had no idea.
"Dinner," said Chiron. Never mind.
"Well," said Percy "he's obviously one of the Big Three so he can sit with me and Jason. I assume Nico will be joining Will at the Apollo table? Will and Nico sitting in the tree"
"First comes love" Jason joined in.
"Then comes marriage"
"And a Poseidon kid with spinal damage," said Will from behind Percy. Where had he come from?
"I just came to get Nico," explained Will.
Nico shot Percy a dirty look, looked me up and down and then made his way out of the Big House with his boyfriend.
"Th-the Big Three?" I said changing the subject. I also seemed to have gained a stutter. Well then.
"The big three, you really don't know anything?" Jason asked although I thought by now the answer was obvious.
"You two go ahead I'll send Max out in a minute," Chiron instructed. Percy and Jason left the Big House and once again I was left with Chiron.
"Do you want to explain what happened there?" asked Chiron but it sounded more like an order. Honestly, no. I didn't. But if Chiron were to help me he would need to know. I explained how the voice or the 'forgotten' were trapped in the.. shadows? Of the sea and sky? I didn't mention the soul thing, I still didn't quite understand it. I waited for Chiron to say something inspiring like 'don't worry you will be ok your just hallucinating' but instead he just told me leave and join the others at dinner. I made my way out of the Big House and spotted Jason and Percy waving at me from one of the tables. I couldn't help but notice probably the worlds largest statue glowing on the hill. It's gaze seemed to follow me as I hurried over to the table Percy and Jason were sitting at. As soon as I sat down I didn't even have anytime to say anything because Percy and Jason were immediately flooding me with questions. I couldn't understand anything they were saying as they were both talking way to fast and at the same time.
The only question I was able to make out was, "any questions?"
Honestly this seemed a bit stupid but I remained calm and gave a simple answer,
"just one: can you explain everything?"
This seemed a pretty reasonable and sensible question but the guys just laughed. Was this funny? Was this all some joke? I literally wanted to disappear, nothing was making sense!!
After the laughter died down Percy explained about the Greek Gods and demigods, the big three and about how they and Nico were lonely so they made a Big Three cabin which was were I would be staying.
"I managed the Poseidon cabin for several years," said Percy "and boy, it wasn't easy, learnt a lot of life lessons."
"Your cabin was just you right?" I asked
Percy nodded "yeah but I wasn't very easy to manage." That baffled me but I decided to leave it alone.
"I don't know how I can remember all of this," I said.
"We can give you a quiz!" offered Jason jumping up and down. I was about to say 'no, I'm okay' but he had already started.
"Name all the major gods," said Jason.
Oh gods I was screwed.
"Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Ares, Apollo and Artemis... umm"
"It's ok keep going," encouraged Percy. Who else was there? Oh no, I can't remember. Oh wait!
"Athena!" I must have shouted because all the other kids were looking at me. How embarrassing, although the awkward silence was broken by Percy and Jason laughing like dying cats. The others went back to eating their food and I realised the plate of food in front of me and set it aside.
"You're not eating?" asked Jason. I was afraid that if I ate anything I would immediately throw it back up, and that, my friend, would not be pretty. I shook my head.
"I'm not hungry" I replied. Jason raised one eyebrow.
I couldn't help but notice that all of Percy's food was blue. Um.. let's just not go there.
"Does it not bug you?" said Percy with a mouth full of food.
"Huh?" I asked
"Not knowing who you are. Doesn't that annoy you?" It scared me more than anything, what if I didn't like who I was? I just shrugged my shoulders. I wasn't really up for a long and emotional conversation. I just wanted to go to sleep and wake up with all of this being just a dream.
I realised that I was tapping my foot under the table, and my hands were shaking. I tried to stop them but I literally had no control. What was this? My eyes were darting all over the place. Gods I was freaking out. This whole time I had tried to keep my cool but I guess I was gonna explode eventually. I took a deep breath and cupped my face in my hands.
"What the-" Jason said. I could feel water dripping on my shoulders. Was it raining?
I looked up at Jason and Percy (who looked really confused) and there wasn't any rain. Then I heard the thunder. I looked directly up and saw a grey miniature cloud probably about a meter long hovering over my head, creating a storm. Luckily for me there was no lightning, *BAM* ...never mind. The lightning bolt shot directly through me. Somehow I was fine, the blast didn't really effect me but all the other demigods stared at me in horror. Even Chiron came out of hiding. Could this day get any worse? I could feel the rain hitting my skull. My breaths were extremely short now. I was having a panic attack.
"Hey Max, just calm down," suggested Jason, "deep breaths yeah buddy?" I took his advice and tried to steady my breathing. As I did, the cloud began to fade more and more until it was gone. Despite the rain, I wasn't wet. How? That's a Poseidon power, yet the lightning bolt didn't effect me and that's a Zeus power. And come to think of it I was having dreams about skeletons (the dead) and that's a Hades thing. What's going on?
