章節 11: Chapter 10 Let’s begin
The day continued on. It wasn't very eventful, but I was very tired and hungry. When everyone else was having lunch I just sat down at a table and reviewed what I had learned so far.
Even though everyone was eating there wasn't really a smell. The food looked bland and colorless. Nobody seemed to taste their food; they shoveled it down their throats knowing that they needed the protein and fats. Only a few others were not eating. They looked sickly; their skin was paler then milk and their bones jutted out of their small frames. Soulless sockets followed everyone even the light didn't dare reflect in their eyes in fear of being consumed by them.
Nym sat next to me, he followed my gaze and explained to me why they weren't eating.
" They didn't earn their place, so they don't deserve to eat. The weak get trampled on. Most of them won't even last another two weeks."
Now I understood the note on my dresser more. You have to work hard to earn your place; you couldn't even eat unless you succeed. There is no 'you tried your best' as a compensation. It's life and death; no leniency.
The realization finally set in. No more parties, family dinners, Christmas, or a loving family. I would not feel the way I once did; the scenes are forever engraved into my body and soul. Even though the memories may fade slightly it will always be there. The games we played, our mischievous grins after eating the rest of the cake, the joy, the reprimanding, our ideals. I still had them along with my locket, and toy fox. I don't know where my dagger is; I hope I can find it. Maybe I'll ask Camélia next time I see her. When will that be though, hopefully soon.
After lunch I went to my other classes. I meet Mr. Thoran my instructor for torture. The man I saw laughing on my first day was brought into the room shackles. His eyes still had a crazed look. He was then attached to the wall, 4 inch in diameter and 6 inches long metal bars with spikes on the ends were shoved into his hands and feet. The end of the bars has a 5 inch square that held the hands and feet there were jagged slots in each bar.
He was secured chains were also holding him; pinning him to the wall like an insect. On the table there was an assortment of torture devices: whips, blades, hammers, acid, hallucinogenics, tweezers, forceps, needles, poisons, etc. " Let the fun begin. May this be an enjoyable experience."
