章節 4: 4 Food delights
Incident with Richard yesterday was easily forgotten. Back to normal routine at work in the hospital as a newly hired nurse was fullfilling. Though I am still adjusting to different tasks, I find it enjoyable especially because my companions are friendly and supportive. The doctors are also approachable and are easy to get along with.
But tonight, it made me somewhat nervous. My first night shift starts today since 7am-3pm ended yesterday. Though I had experienced the three shifts in the hospital when I was still a nursing student, the real thing is now.
I arrived at my work station an hour early so I will have ample of time to prepare before endorsement of patients come. I was anticipating that night duty would be difficult because of the graveyard schedule so I brought with me extra food... fruits and some chips.
Time for the endorsement of patients with some extra instructions for patients with special needs. Though care for patients are already written in their respective charts, I appreciated it when the nurse endorsed it this way. So thoughtful for a new comer like me, but, what was that? I think I saw her smile differently. What was it for? She is bubbly and friendly so I deliberately just ignored it. She is pretty too, maybe I was just overthinking on my first night shift duty.
We went to the nurse station together and with that same smile she said, "Mia, can I have some of your mangoes? I'm sure you can't consume it all."
"Mangoes? I don't have mangoes, but you can have some of my oranges. I brought extra so I can share it to you."
That smile again! She has two beautiful dimples and it makes her prettier when she smiles. "Someone brought mangoes for you Mia, special delivery from a friend. I thought he texted you so I just accepted it without asking his name. In fairness, he's handsome. Can I have his number? oh! just incase you dont want him... aha! 😄"
Oh my! that's the reason for her mischievous smile. Mangoes from a friend. Who would have delivered it for me? I inspected the 1 cartoon of fresh mangoes, yes it has my full name on it but no name of the sender. "Take as many as you can, my pleasure to share it with you and the rest of the night shift owls " as casual as I could. My first night shift duty is splendid, a feast of mangoes!
