Murong Yu was not kidding when he said that they were attending a prestigious party. The party was held by one of the most powerful families in Imperial City. Luckily, it was a masquerade party. Otherwise, Xiao Lei would be nervous appearing in such a party. She wondered how Murong Yu managed to get the invitation, but she did not ask.

"No doubt he blackmailed someone into inviting him," Xiao Lei thought as she walked into the ballroom with him. She stood with her back straight as if she belonged to this kind of event in the first place.

When they entered, everyone kept staring at them to the point that Xiao Lei felt a little uncomfortable.

"Don't worry," Murong Yu said as he patted her waist where his hand was resting on. He pulled her closer to him and looked at her with a grin on his face, "They are just jealous because you look absolutely beautiful even with the mask on."

Xiao Lei could only roll her eyes at his attempt to flirt with her. She could not believe that he got so many girls clambering for his attention. Then again, she knew that if it was not because of her budding feelings for Xiao Yunjie, she might be like one of those girls.

Not knowing what was in her mind, Murong Yu adjusted his own black mask before they started moving toward the middle of the ballroom.

With their face hidden behind the masks, everyone tried to guess who they were. The moment they saw the necklace on Xiao Lei's neck, they started to discuss even more fervently.

Even if they did not know what the necklace was, they knew that it was not a piece of cheap jewelry.

Murong Yu was not worried that someone might recognize the necklace as most people who had contact with the necklace before was dead.

Her bright eyes scanned around to see if there was anyone that she could recognize or might recognize her.

At the party, Murong Yu walked around with her. With his natural charm and intelligence, he managed to easily join into any conversation by impersonating "Du XiAn". He found out that the heir to the Du Conglomerate was supposed to attend the party, but Murong Yu also found out that Madam President Du was admitted into hospital two days ago.

He doubted that the filial man would come for a party, and hence, he got his people to create a fake invitation card for him. There was no easier way for him to join a conversation than by impersonating the heir to one of the richest families in the country.

With his face hidden and the card as his identity, the moment he said that his name was "Du XiAn", the others dropped their guards and loosened their tongue, which also made it easier for Xiao Lei to do what she was there to do.

Xiao Lei did not disappoint him. She was able to answer any questions whether it was about the latest piece of news or politics. For some of the men here, they found that compared to most of the girls here, it was a lot more fun to talk to her. They found her ability to speak her mind openly made her an interesting partner to converse with.

For most of the time, Murong Yu kept his arm around Xiao Lei's waist, and even she wanted to slap him for pinching her occasionally, Xiao Lei played the role of a good girlfriend the whole time.

She was there on a mission, which was to steal everything she could from them. Those men never noticed it. Xiao Lei was experienced enough to know who to make her move on.

During her conversation with them, she would gauge their intelligence and alertness to the surroundings. Then, she would talk to them and brushed her hand against them, and when they were not paying attention, she would take whatever she wanted from them.

Within 2 hours, among other things, she also stole 4 jade rings, 4 Rolex, 2 Jaeger-LeCoultre, and 2 Patek Phillipe watch from the unsuspecting men, and a few diamond and gold earrings as well as necklaces from the women.

Did she feel bad? Not even a little bit of guilt. She had talked to them earlier and she knew that these people could easily afford to replace the stolen items. Xiao Lei had her own principles. She would not steal from the normal people, and her targets were those who were invited instead of their companions.

Everything was slipped to their people who had snuck in as part of the catering team or as part of the staff. Before the victims even realized that they were pickpocketed, the stolen goods would have been sent out.

Once Murong Yu was happy with the amount and the estimated value, he waited for the moment when the ballroom darkened for a performance before he took Xiao Lei's hand and slipped away.
