章節 2: Confusion and despair

A white petite figure laid on a bed her blond hair sprawling on the pillow. The room is the boudoir of the most beautiful and most elegant princess of the Goloth nation. It was of rectangular shape, containing six flower-wreathed windows, each window was draped with the thickest white brocade having no singular design, even the tapestries were in plain white .

The ceilings, walls and floors was painted in a pristinely white colour, the gorgeously decorated panel was very beautiful reeking of opulence. There was a magnificent marble mantelpiece and beautiful sculpture painted in white laying on a bedside table together with a lighted lamp also in white colour . Everything spoke of grandeur and wealth.

A young servant sat by her lady's side reading a folktale, but the story lost it's charm due to the state of the unconscious being lying peacefully on her bed. She laid it down and walked to one of the windows and unfastened it . The fragrance of the white primrose breezed into the room refreshing and breaking up the dead calm of monotony and despair that seemed to have settled on her.

How beautiful it is, the beautiful estate and the flowery garden of her lady. The clear air seemed freighted with perfume __ the calm night with it's bright shining moon, it's power-laden breeze, the roses and lilies all made the estate the most beautiful place on earth. The only thing missing is the fairest face of the master of this provençal night.

Her tired eyes gazed over the calm and peaceful face of the one whose face was illuminated with the moonlight calming her troubled heart.

"What can I give to make you conscious, my lady?" said the servant . "I could die in your stead to make you return back to us , die and let you live"

Die and let her live? There are people who doubt the immortality of the soul, yet in the deepest grief, in sorrow, in anguish and despair they turn to death as a means of solace. The idea even though it aroused and soothed her still scared her. What does it mean to be dead? She closed the window and returned back to the bedside to keep her lady company.

EARLY MORNING

The colourless face seemed to gain colour as the beam of sunlight slanted on it. A flush appeared on the cheeks making it look rosy .The oval shaped face , delicate in contour and exquisite in colouring sparkled with a lovely sheen .

A soft fragrance filled her nose making her smile and look resplendent. The long lashes fluttered open revealing a dark starry eyes filled with brightness which she closed immediately due to the violent exposure to light. Slowly, she took time to open it this time around making her squint at her surroundings 'Where am I?' she thought to herself as her whole senses returned back to her.

A throbbing headache assaulted her making her give a low cry. A sudden jolt besides her brought to her attention that someone was besides her . "Water " She said which was responded with a scurrying of feet to and fro . A cold object which she assumed to be a cup was handed over to her . Gulping down the water with a fast pace, the cold liquid trickled down her throat cooling down her parched up throat.

"My lady, are you OK? Are you finally awake? Do you feel pain anywhere?" . A voice asked her in one breath leaving no room for her response. But why is she calling her ' My lady?' and why is someone in her room.

The killing headache lessened a bit giving her a little bit of leash to open her eyes. She took in her surrounding and frowned . 'Am I dead?' she queried herself. 'Why is the whole room in white?'

She looked at the bright eyed young lady who looked at her with an unexplainable expression "Who are you?... are you an angel?". The servant looked at her with a startled expression and stammered her answer feeling a little bit hurt that her lady is asking for her identity, is this a joke?

"My lady, I am Kia your most loyal and personal servant". Kia ? Why does that name ring a bell of familiarity in her mind? Oh Kia motors? No wonder it clicked in her memories.

Sophie observed her surroundings again and like lightning, it flashed to her. The horrible accident she had, the mangled car that hadn't even stayed for one week and the final accident that sent her flying to the river. It seemed she really died and is in heaven.

"Miss angel, when do I receive my judgement?". She saw the dove-like eye of the girl widen in shock .' Wait , what? did I say something wrong?__ Aren't I supposed to receive my judgement since am dead?'

The girl ran out of the room and returned with a physician, behind the physician is someone she's well too familiar with. Her oldest brother.

"Brother!" she cried before running out of bed barefooted " I am so sorry that the new car you bought for me is gone!". She clasped her arms around his neck and raised her feet to bury her neck at the crook of his neck. The familiar baritone voice spoke to her making her happy at first but dampened her spirit at last due to it's contents.

"Princess Sola, I don't remember us being so close for you to hug me like this". Her breath stilled, her tears stopped and her fingers stiffened. Why is her brother acting so cold? ' Oh, I forgot that I'm dead but wait , is my brother also dead? Why is he here with me?'

"Brother, how did you die?" she asked while unclasping her arms from his neck. "Princess Sola, do I look dead to you? ... and why are you speaking informally to me?".

If the name didn't register in her mind before, at the continuous use of the name on her it occurred to her that something has gone wrong. Are they acting a drama ? If she's not dead it can only mean that they are acting but where are the cameras and the directors, they should be somewhere giving directions and recording all this encounters, shouldn't they? Again, where is her own script?

Looking at a white screen partition at the right corner of the room, she lowered her voice and whispered to her brother "Are the directors hiding there?" she swayed her head at that direction... "Where is my own script?" she finally asked when there was no response.

The cold looking man looked at her with a strange expression and nodded at the physician, the young lady led her to sit on the bed before standing respectfully at a far distance. Her brother then ordered the lady to explain what happened.

"Your highness, she looked dazed when she woke up before asking me when she can receive judgement... Your highness, I'm terribly sorry for disturbing your rest, I just couldn't find any other close-by royal in the palace". Sophie scoffed at her brother being called 'your highness', no wonder he was acting all princely.

The doctor finished his diagnosis... umm... his acting then gave a short salut before reporting his findings to her brother.

At the door, an elderly woman dressed in a deep rich purple gown was led by another elderly lady who wore a much simpler gown. In a modern world, you can tell them apart as a master and her servant due to the difference in dressing. What really caught her attention was her face. This is the face of her dead mother in the family portrait ,but she looks alive now though a little bit frail. So they were really dead not acting?

Sophie puffed her chest at her brother and stuck out her tongue at him. The queen saw her child's ungraceful behavior and admonished her. "Princess Sola! what's this insolent behavior towards your step brother?". The young lady and her brother bowed to her mother with ' Your Majesty' as she made her appearance. She calmly watched this display with despair in her heart.

"Mom " she suddenly said " I am Sophie not princess Sola and brother Kan here is my brother not my step brother". Everyone looked at her like she's mentally deranged unsettling her. She looked outside recalling the star that blinked at her , suddenly, something occurred to her.

"Which year is this, angel? ...umm .... Kia"she asked hoping it's not what she's thinking.

"This is 1504 my lady". Kia answered wondering why her lady asked the question.

"What is the name of the current king?". Her mother interrupted her that she should address her father properly.

"King Dur is my lady's father". Kia answered timidly making Sophie's heartbeat increase in it's rhythm.

'I'm so dead ' she thought before slumping back on her bed.
