As the days passed for the unfortunate mages stuck in the Deadlands, they learned to adapt to it. The system they had set up to survive started out rough, mostly because of one single member. Natsu would start to fight no matter the strength level of the beasts they encountered. He made Team One's job of capturing beasts for food impossible as he would run off to find opponents they couldn't handle. This, of course, would resort to Erza and Mirajane being forced to join hands to give him and the rest of the team time to escape. It took an entire weak of headaches and near-death experiences before Natsu learned why he couldn't fight everything that moved.
Upon a branch of the white vitality tree sat Gajeel and Gray. They were both munchings on a piece of meat while discussing what their respective teams had gone through.
Gajeel listened to the exhausted Gray as he explained how difficult it had been to quench the thirst Natsu had for battle. "Sounds rough. I'm lucky my team is quite chill. We only need to map the area, we don't encounter as many beasts as you guys. Though sometimes it gets super boring." With Levy on his team, all he could do was resign to the fact that much of his time was allocated to sneaking around mapping the island.
"Your group is responsible for finding that lieutenant beast too, right? Have you found anything?"
"Nothing, but the farther we explore the stronger they get. So, I guess we're getting closer."
"Hm, have ya gotten any stronger?" A casual question, but here in this place their survival depended on them all becoming stronger fast. Team One was the ones spending most time battling beasts, and because of that, it was talk of rotating the responsibilities to each other. But, the problem was, each team worked very well together, but Team One was only good for one thing. That being defeating the magical beasts. They had filled that team with every muscle head the group had, and Lucy. So, they couldn't really map anything or do any other sensitive task. But to be fair, any team housing Natsu was doomed to only be responsible for the fighting.
"I think so. We don't fight a lot, but every beast we do encounter and can't run away from is a true deathmatch. I hate the constant sneaking and stress over being found, but this is certainly a very efficient extreme training. That founder wasn't lying when he said this would whip us in shape quickly."
"No kidding. Yesterday, we enco-" He was interrupted by a giant explosion and a signal flare in the form of an exploding card sent up in the sky illuminating it in red.
"Code red! Damn, let's hurry!" They both jumped down from the tree. The clock was approaching midnight and team two should have been back by now. They understood immediately why they hadn't. Mirajane had decided that even though this was a safe zone, they should have a rotating watch around the camp, and boy, were they glad they had that now.
Gray ran over to the tents and screamed out "code red" loud enough for Amell on God's mountain to hear. Fortunately, the mages were disciplined. Or more like they had been forced to become that way from staying here. In seconds they were out and fully awake and dressed.
"Code red, are you sure?" Erza asked hurriedly. Code red almost spoke for itself and the faces of the mages around her showed the seriousness of the situation.
"From the West," Gray answered.
"Team leaders, gather your team and let's move. You have thirty seconds. Let's hope Mest is close." Just as she said it, a man appeared from out of nowhere.
"Erza! We're in trouble. A powerful one appeared, probably a Lieutenant. Mirajane can barely handle it, the rest of the team is in bad shape." He had injuries a little all over the place. His face was bruised and bloody, but he didn't seem to care.
"Take me there first. EVERYONE FOLLOW AFTER!" He grabbed ahold of her and they disappeared. There was no time for hesitation if a Lieutenant had appeared. They were second after an Overlord and the group didn't know the gap between an Overlord and their Lieutenant.
"TO BATTLE!" A warcry originating with Natsu was soon freed from every mouth near as they rushed towards the battle. Even across this hefty distance, they could feel the ridiculous vibrations and that in itself spoke of the magnitude of this battle.

Erza and Mest appeared in the forest that usually was surrounded by complete blackness. But now, there was a fantastic light-show not far away from where they appeared. Mirajane and what Erza perceived to be a dragon without wings were fighting. Whatever they came across, be it stick or stone was destroyed, completely and utterly annihilated from the ridiculous power the beast's claws possessed. She didn't wait for Mest to explain anything, she equipped the infamous armour she had taken down countless foes with and rushed in. Numerous swords hovered around her as she made her speedy approach.
"Mira! What's the situation!?" She yelled right before her powerful kick struck on the side of the beast and sent it sliding a few meters away. "Are you okay?"
Erza, thank god! I can't fight anymore." Mira almost instantly lost her balance and fell down. Mest appeared and took her in his arms before she met the ground. "T...Too strong, need everyone..." was what she said before losing consciousness.
"Take her away, and tell the others to hurry up! I won't be able to hold on much longer than her." She turned from them as Mest disappeared with Mira. Her opponent had already recovered and was glaring at her.
"Another human joins the fray. Will you be more entertaining than the last?" its vicious jaw opened to display its many rows of teeth. Erza felt an involuntary chill crawl up her spine as the beasts bloodlust was released.
"You call hurting my guild entertainment?" She felt the anger welling up inside her. "I'll show you the entertainment. COME BEAST!!" She rushed at him with her [Heaven's Wheel Armor] equipped. She sent the swords around her at the beast faster than the human eye could perceive. Unlucky for her, the volley appeared slow in the eyes of the beast.
"Is this the best you got? You're worse than the devil child." A pulse was released from its body and repelled the entire volley like it was nothing. While taking advantage of Erza's momentary shock, it disappeared. Despite its many meters long body, it moved faster than she could see. Before she could react, a tail-whip smashed her into a tree.
"How disappointing."
"D-Don't count me out!" Erza stood up looking mostly okay. She wasn't missing any limbs or anything. "You're gonna have to do better than that!" She herself disappeared using the fastest speed of what she was able in that armour. She appeared above its head and struck down with all the power she could muster, unfortunately, the sword only got a few inches deep before stopping. Immediately she felt the looming threat of death approach as the tale came ones again.
[Fire Dragon's Roar] [Iron Dragon's Roar] Two big and destructive dragons breath came and halted the tails approach giving Erza enough time to avoid and jump to safety.
"You made it just in time. Thanks, you two." She said to the two dragon slayers who had appeared with the rest.
"You're welcome! Now, is that the bastard Lieutenant?" Natsu glared proudly and angrily at the tyrannical-looking half-dragon.
"HAHAHAHA!! You think I am a Lieutenant?!!" Its unexpected outburst took the guild by surprise.
"HAHAHA!! I wish I was, but unfortunately, I can't even be compared to a Lieutenant. HAHAHA, but, good one! Sure made me laugh!!"
"Shit, not even a Lieutenant and still it can handle two S-Class mages back to back. What the hell is this island?!" Gray cursed as he got in position to use his magic. They all knew now for real what kind of hellish life awaited them here. They weren't even close to the point where Yuri would find their strength acceptable.
"Don't lose hope, guys! Right now we have the numbers advantage, let's beat this ugly bastard and cook him for dinner!" Gajeel said. He was calm, but still, the raging inferno inside of him that begged for a real proper fight would finally be quenched.

End
Sorry for the wait, I've just not been that motivated to write lately.
When you write novels/fanfiction, whatever, for fun, it's super enjoyable. That is until you realize that the fun of it has been gone a long time and what's left is just that never-ending feeling of pleasing the readers and making it better and better every chapter. Might not sound so bad, but since I don't get paid for this and it is just a hobby, it does apply a lot of unnecessary pressure.
Have A Wonderful Day!
Creation is hard, cheer me up!
