章節 11: Grandchildren and Reasoning

Nailah's parents were currently sitting at the table near the balcony and a maid was currently pouring tea for the three of them. The father was a Grey wolf named Adal and the mother was a white wolf named Aurora. When the maid was finally gone, Nailah's mother was the first to speak up.

Aurora: "Why did you take off your dress? I know that you do not like it, but you should at least show some decency in front of the maids."

Nailah: "You know how I hate how those frilly things restrict my body and besides, it's not like anybody haven't already seen me walking around like this. Although I am now queen, it's not like I can't do what I want every now and then."

Nailah's Father slapped his head and sighed in response.

Adal: "And here I thought that giving you the throne would at least make you a bit more mature."

Nailah: "Hey, I am mature. There's pretty much no one in the entire kingdom that can beat me in a one-on-one fight."

Adal: "You know what I am talking about."

Nailah: "Yea. Yea."

Aurora: "Moving on. I believe that you brought back an interesting man from the desert and from what I hear, he seems to be extremely gorgeous. So have you finally found someone that you're interested in?"

The father's face turned red with rage after hearing that question

Adal: "WHAT! Nonononono! I forbid any sort of affair. If anyone even thinks for marrying my daughter, they'll have to get past me!"

Nailah: "Calm down, it's not like that. I'm pretty sure that you also heard that he is a winged Laguz, which are different from us wolf Laguz. I was just curious, that's all. Plus, Rafiel's weaker than me and you know that I ain't going to be with anyone weaker than me."

Nailah's father nodded his head in approvement.

Nailah's mother, on the other hand, had a huge grin on her face and intense fire in her eyes. Ever since Nailah was young, all she ever wanted to do was fight, train, and increase her battle experience. This made it nearly impossible for her to ever have a chance of getting into any romantic relationship. This meant that there was an extremely low chance of her ever getting grandchildren. But now here she was calling this mysterious man by his name, and not something abstract.

Aurora: 'It doesn't matter if it's a guy she just met or a guy of another race. Hell, I wouldn't even care if he was an old balding man. As long as she approves of him and I could hold my future grandbabies, nothing else matters!'

She made this pledge within her heart and vowed everything that she would realize it one way or another.

Adal coughed to calm himself down and tried to change the subject.

Adal: "So what about the other one that you brought back with you?"

Aurora: "Another person?"

Nailah began to sweat.

Nailah: "Let's not talking about that one for now, you'll learn about him later. Mmmmh, this is some great tea."

Adal didn't seem to understand what she was trying to do and brought the subject back up.

Adal: "I thought that you didn't really care for what you drank unless it kept you hydrated? And just tell us about that boy. There is nothing that you can't discuss in front of your parents now is there?"

Aurora thought that this was another man Nailah could end up being together with.

Aurora: "Yes! Please tell us about this other boy."

She gave a wry smile in response.

Nailah: "I really don't want to talk about this."

Adal: "Why not? It's just a baby."

Aurora: "A baby!?"

Nailah: 'Shit.'

Aurora: "Tell us what you know, now!"

Nailah was now forced to tell them all that happened on her routine expedition. She was eventually going to do it anyway, but she wanted to omit the stuff about the baby as she knew that it would drive her mother insane because of how much she wanted grandchildren. Hell, Nailah even went on a few dates with a few 'strong' Laguz and Beorc just to appease her.

It took a while, but she eventually told them the whole story of how she met Ryan and Rafiel and actually seen the other side of the desert. However, her father had to speak some sense into her first.

Adal: "You idiot! Why would you try to cross the desert when you knew that you were both low on food and water!? After you were gone for so long, I thought that you were just spending your days taking care of some bandits along the border and thought nothing of it. But you actually did something as stupid as going further!"

Aurora: "Stop yelling at her and calm down dear, even we would be tempted to go and investigate that disturbance. I know you felt it too. That feeling was quite something, incredibly supernatural."

Adal: "Of course I felt it and of course I would want to see what happened, but in that situation, rationality has to triumph over curiosity."

As much as Nailah wanted to stay quiet and just endure all the anger and worry they were directing towards her, hearing that they felt the emotional wave too shocked her.

Nailah: "Wait. You guys felt the wave too? It was able to travel far enough to reach Hatari?"

Adal: "Only a few of us felt it. Everyone else didn't know what happened or were not able to feel it at all. So what do you think happened? You were probably the first to be there anyway."

Nailah was silent for a bit to gather her thoughts.

Nailah: "Although I sure I do not know more than the first guy I brought in, Rafiel, my gut is telling me that the wave probably had something to do with the baby."

Aurora: "The child?"

Nailah: "Yea. On the way back just outside of the desert line, we were confronted by a large group of bandits. Normally, we would have been able to deal with them no problem, but they had a huge diversity in their fighters and we were fatigued from the journey."

Nailah's parents nodded in understanding. They knew that the more diverse the group, the harder the fight, not to mention how tired the Nailah's guards were. No matter how strong you were, if you were tired and was low on stamina, your battle performance would a fraction of your full strength. In terms of the game, it would be a debuff to all your stats.

Nailah continued on with the description of her scuffle with the bandits.

Nailah: "The battle went on with us having a slight edge over them, even though their boss was really annoying with that skill of his. However, we underestimated them and their group was larger than we thought. They had more men, horse riders, rushing ours who defending the cart with the Laguz and baby."

Adal: "Wait, you split your group?"

Nailah scratched her head and chuckled awkwardly at that question.

Nailah: "Yea. I left half of the men to protect Rafiel and the baby. I guess I was underestimating the enemy."

Adal: "Hah… And here I thought that you didn't need any more lessons in fighting."

Nailah: "Anyways, the half of our group that was defending were slowly losing their fight and the group I was leading didn't look like we were going to be able to finish our fight in time to reinforce them. But then suddenly a blast blew in around the cart, pushing everyone in their fight, lifting my men in the air and the riders off of their horses, changing the tides of that battle. That gust of wind was the reason why my men did not die at that moment."

Adal thought for a while.

Adal: "...A wind mage was there?"

Nailah: "You know that my group only consisted of Laguz men, the only mages in the vicinity were the enemy's."

Aurora: "Then how? …..The birdman?"

Nailah: "No, even if he did know some magic, I don't think he was strong enough to do something like that. That only leaves the baby as the cause for what happened."

Aurora: "The child!? But how!? A baby is not supposed to know how to use magic, much less have the power to actually do anything."

Nailah: "Although such a thing is unprecedented and there has never been a situation where this had ever happened, it doesn't mean that it is impossible. Based on what I saw, I also think that the emotional wave also came from him."

Adal: "You mean that that amount of power was caused by him!?"

Nailah: "It's just a guess, but yea I do. It also sort of makes sense since that would also make him intelligent. He was forced to run away from his home, only to fail in the end and the one that was protecting him, his father most-likely, probably was killed in front of him. This caused a spark with the power within him and it exploded in every direction."

Both Adal and Aurora were silent in response to Nailah's hypothesis. Although they both agreed that it was probably the most likely scenario from the evidence given, they knew that mages usually carried tomes or staves and were unable to use magic without them.

Nailah: "Anyways, I don't know anymore else except that. We'll have to wait for Rafiel to get his health back up before we know any more."
