[Acknowledged. Spending 10 Super Special Newcomer tickets. Initiating gacha.]
Lights representing the differing rarities – except bronze – spun and danced in his vision creating a kaleidoscope of color. It felt slightly reminiscent of Fate/Grand Order, but with a crazier light show. Quickly, the crimson lights left the field.
Next, the diamond lights were pushed out.
Then the platinum lights left.
Finally, with just silver and gold lights remaining, the gold lights converged towards the center of the screen, spinning and combining together to generate an even greater golden light. As the light grew and expanded, the final silver lights vanished. Matt then saw the lights slowly begin to take shape. As time passed, the shape grew clearer and clearer until an antique, leather-bound book appeared.
[Rare Manual of Energy Manipulation obtained]
The process repeated itself, this time with the silver lights dominating over all others.
[Uncommon medium capsule from the Dragon Ball Universe obtained]
Matt was already overjoyed with just these two, and they weren't even that rare. He now had a path to help with his magical abilities and he had also obtained a storage container.
His interest had also been piqued. Having obtained something from another universe for the first time, he wondered what else he could draw.
The lights danced once more and silver once again took center stage.
[Uncommon Insatiable Horn obtained]
This was the first object which he had no clue as to its function. It was an ancient looking horn ornamented in gold. However, Matt had little time to analyze it before the next lights coalesced.
Platinum.
Matt's heart beat just a bit faster, and he sent a brief prayer to his brother, Sirzechs, for good fortune.
The platinum lights took shape into what seemed to be a set of three books. As the image cleared and Matt gained a good look at the first book's printed cover, his entire being fell into despair.
(There's no way…)
But his despair was affirmed the next second with the announcement of the system.
[Super rare 50 Shades trilogy obtained]
(Why is this even an item! And how the hell is it super rare!). If he had hair, he surely would have ripped it out by now. Unfortunately, he could only wallow in self-pity. This was gacha.
But that self-pity flew out the window as soon as shimmering, vibrant lights took dominance in his vision. Diamond.
This time no form took shape. Instead, when the brightness reached its peak, the diamond light shattered. As it did, Matt felt a stabbing pain in his head. Unlike the pain from his heart attack which felt like an elephant was sitting on him, this was far more painful and acute. As he thrashed about, he could hear seemingly distant sounds of her voice and its vibrations through her body, of Venelana, his mother, shouting in panic as she sensed something was wrong with the child in her womb.
All this happened within the span of a few second and, just as quickly as the pain arrived, it vanished. As it receded, Matt felt his mind become clearer, sharper, and far more capable than it had ever been by wide margin.
[Special super rare ability, eidetic memory, obtained]
He grinned, no longer caring about the remnants of the pain. He had received eidetic memory!
As muffled, panicking voices reached his senses - presumable people brought by his mother's shouts - the next item began forming from a silver light. Though the next item – forming a scroll – was just uncommon, he didn't care as he was still on an emotional high.
[Uncommon skill, singing level 100, obtained]
Singing. It may have no battle application, but it was an admirable skill nonetheless. He was pleased.
Next was gold.
[Rare Manual of Energy Sensing obtained]
A perfect complement to his energy manipulation manual.
Next, gold.
[Rare Coin of Fate obtained]
It was an ancient gold coin with one side displaying Ophis and the other showing Great Red. Though he didn't know its function, it sounded and looked very interesting.
Next, silver.
Riding the emotional high he was feeling, he anxiously watched as the silver lights took the form of a uniquely shaped fish.
[Uncommon pet, magikarp from the Pokemon universe, obtained]
Matt was flabbergasted as he looked at the orange fish. He couldn't help but consider his luck which, out of all the hundreds of Pokemon, summoned this useless fish.
(No. Fine. Whatever. Hopefully evolution is a real thing here.)
He was broken out of his thoughts by the platinum lights forming the shape of a card. As the light dimmed and the card came into full view, he saw a man in ancient Greek battle gear depicted. He looked awfully familiar.
[Super rare summon, Achilles from the Iliad/Troy movie, obtained]
Matt mentally snapped his fingers. (That's why he looks familiar. He looks just like Brad Pitt.) Opinions of Brad Pitt aside, Matt was excited. Assuming a summon could appear in real life for an amount of time, he knew Achilles would be a great fountain of combat knowledge.
However, just as the next light show began, Matt realized that this was his last one. He had already obtained ten things but had yet to receive the elusive chaotic rare.
(Please. Please. Please.) He begged the gacha gods.
The gold lights disappeared, followed quickly by the silver and platinum lights. Now it was just down to crimson and diamond. Either result was incredible, but his eyes and wishes only rested on the crimson lights. The next second seems to last minutes until…
(YES!)
All the crimson lights gathered and shone radiantly. As giddy as a school boy, Matt stared onward intently as a card was created. His whole body was tense, a fact that Venelana sensed and worriedly informed those who were still gathered from her previous shout.
The image cleared showing the personage he assumed was a summon. She had dark purple hair, red eyes, and a fit body covered by a black, full-body outfit. Seeing her, he thought that even if this summon was the only thing he obtained in this gacha draw, he would be happy.
[Chaotic rare summon, Scathach from the Nasuverse, obtained]
In the Fate/Grand Order mobile game, Scathach was his favorite character, having both amazing specs and aesthetics. Her legend even spoke of her slaying gods and being a divine spirit.
But, thinking of her legend, Matt was bothered. (Able to kill gods? Isn't that a little over-the-top for what Chaos had planned for me? There's no way…)
(System, please display the descriptions of everything I received from the gacha, the least rare items displayed first.)
[Understood.]
A new screen soon filled his view.
==========
Medium Capsule (uncommon)
Designed by Dr. Brief of the Capsule Corporation, this capsule has the ability to compress object to fit within its space. Though based primarily upon space physics, science regarding the methods of time was also used, thus enabling even some organic life forms to enter it. Only sentient organisms are barred entry. Medium capsule can compress something with a limit of 10 cubic meters.
----------
Insatiable Horn (uncommon)
An ornamental ox horn designed to hold water, it was crafted by ancient Ethiopian magicians. Enchanted, it consumes energy in the air to form water, thus ensuring a never-ending supply. The water is completely clean. Great for travel.
----------
Magikarp (uncommon)
As a medium-sized fish Pokemon, its appearance is characterized by its reddish-orange scales, pink lips, and three-peaked fin on its back. Famous for its splashing abilities. Useless in battle. It tastes delicious.
Required energy for initial summon: 200
----------
Singing Lv. 100 (uncommon)
Singing is more than a mere means of entertainment. It can sooth souls or bring out the fighting spirits of others. Singing can seduce. Singing can comfort. Singing can increase your reputation and appeal to others. At level 100, as you grow older and your vocal cords become fully developed, you have full command over your voice, no sound out of place. Even when you are not singing, others – particularly those weaker than you – will be swayed by your voice.
----------
Manual of Energy Sensing (rare)
Energy is everywhere. It is the building block of all other forms of energy. Holy energy, demonic energy, etc., all derives from a basic foundation. By learning how to sense the various forms of energy all around you, you are taking the first step in seizing power.
----------
Manual of Energy Manipulation (rare)
The mythologies of the world consist of individuals who are capable of devastating the land. However, these earth-shattering powers all have their basis in energy control. By learning to control the surrounding energy, you learn to control Fate.
----------
Coin of Fate (rare)
A magical item whose usage is based on luck. A toss of the coin will be effective for 12 hours. Should it land on Ophis, all your basic stats (strength, defense, magical capacity, etc.) will be doubled. If it lands on Great Red, all basic stats will be halved. Cooldown time of 24 hours after toss. If the Coin of Fate is lost or stolen, regardless if it is recovered soon after, your basic stats will be halved for a period of one year.
----------
50 Shades Trilogy (super rare)
In a world severely lacking in quality entertainment of all forms, this trilogy is sure to satisfy the sexually thirsty. In your original world, more than a hundred million copies were sold with the resulting three movies making over $1 billion. In this world, the performance is likely to be even better.
----------
Achilles (super rare)
The son of a mortal father and nereid (sea nymph) mother, Achilles was dipped into the River Styx, giving him a mostly invulnerable body. His heels aside, only entities who far exceeded his power could hurt him. Though far from being the most powerful mortal of all the ages of man, Achilles wields a supreme talent in battle and is a natural born leader with great strategic skills. Extremely proud. A ladies man.
Required energy for initial summon: 5000
----------
Eidetic Memory (special super rare)
Often mistaken for photographic memory, this is the ability to recall images from memory vividly after only a few instances of exposure, with high precision after exposure, without using a mnemonic device. This is an all-encompassing ability that will help you build your intellectual, physical, combat, and social skills.
----------
Scathach (chaotic rare)
A female warrior-queen from Celtic mythology, she is the queen and gatekeeper of the Land of Shadows, a realm filled with the dead. A true master of both spear and rune magecraft. Mentored the famous Cu Chulainn. Wielding Gae Bolg Alternative, she has slain her way through men, wraiths, and gods. After countless years, she became an immortal divine spirit. Proud and a natural-born queen, she will serve no one.
Required energy for initial summon: 20,000
==========
Matt was quite happy with the descriptions of what he had received. He was even satisfied with the 50 Shades trilogy, figuring he could publish it under a different name. Ultimately, he had been extremely lucky - though he suspected Chaos had a hand in his lucky spoils as a way to get him to go further down the gacha rabbit hole.
That being said, he was, however, concerned with those last words. "She will serve no one."
(System, what are the rules of summoning?)
[All summons, including pets, require an initial energy cost. Prior to the first energy expenditure, all summons and pets are still located within their respective worlds and dimensions. The energy is a means to bring them over. Therefore, provided that they don't die, energy will not be required for their usage again.]
[Once pets are summoned, they remain permanently in the world unless you have a storage device like a Pokeball. Should pets die, they are forever gone. Pets, being the lower form of a summons, are perfectly obedient provided you don't abuse them. Being weaker, they are only found in the bronze through gold rarities.]
[Summons, being far more powerful and rarer, are drastically different from their pet counterparts. Should the need arise, they can be placed back into their respective cards. In the case of injury, you have the option to pay an energy amount to heal them while they are in the card. If they die, they will automatically be sent to their cards where you have a one-day limit in which to pay double the energy of their initial summoning cost to revive them. If that time passes without you reviving them, you will permanently lose them. Each consecutive death will double the needed energy.]
[Unlike pets, summons are not perfectly obedient. While they must obey basic commands, how they execute those commands are entirely up to them. For example, should you wish your summon to train you, it is up to them what and how much they teach you, as well as how much effort they put into it. You must inspire their trust and loyalty should you want a summon to be a true subordinate.]
(That figures…) Matt thought with a bit of disappointment. (If it were any other way, then it would be too easy for me to become a powerhouse in this world, and Chaos wouldn't want that.)
For a long time after that, both Matt and the system were silent. He turned over in his head various means to convince Achilles and Scathach to help him. Many ideas were flung around, but he was ultimately unsure. He had never been good at interpersonal relationships since most of his time had been spent studying.
In the end, he let out a huge mental sigh, and resolved himself to wait and see. Really, that's all he could do anyways. Even if he wanted to summon them right away, it would take a decent amount of time to develop a energy capacity of 5000, much less the 20,000 needed to summon Scathach. Besides that, at that time he would need to have some autonomy within the Gremory household as well as the ability to capably talk and explain the items, pets, and summons existences to his parents and brother.
And so, his plan going forward was to utilize the energy sensing and manipulation manuals to develop his magical capabilities. At the same time, he would develop and enjoy his familial relationships and learn as much from them and the books in the Gremory library as he could.
Hopefully, as time passed, he would then have better insight into dealing with his summons.
Mostly satisfied with the plan, a wave of tiredness hit him. It was already a great feat that he had stayed awake for so long. As his consciousness faded into the realm of dreams, he firmed his resolve to train as soon as he woke.
This scene took far longer than I wanted. Considering this was his first time using the system's gacha, I wanted to describe the whole process and provide descriptions. With the assumption that most readers know how a gacha works and can use the internet to search for items/people from various entertainment works, I will focus much more on the story. Hopefully, now all info dumps relating to the system are over for a long while and we can start getting into the DxD world.
