Mary laughed at him, and the pitch of her laughter got higher and higher until it started to seem hysterical. After a minute or two she calmed down, took several deep breaths and swiped away tears which appeared on her eyes because of her long laughter.
"If I could I would've blocked you together with all your numbers. But you seem to be unblockable!" She whispered back to him at last.
Jim's eyes fell on her newly acquired bracelet with GPS tracker in it, "So he gets to track you and I don't?"
"He asked my permission… So you WERE tracking me!" She realized that she was right to change her cell phone after all. He probably placed a tracker in it when she spent the night in his apartment.
"Oh, come on! As if you had a choice…" He rolled his eyes at her statement about giving her permission to Daniel to track her and fell silent for some time as if thinking through his next words. "It's from my company. I mean the tracker…"
"And what?" Mary did not understand what he was leading to.
"And I'm almost the only person who can access it and screw it the way I want." He said hinting that she could ask him for help if she needed it.
Mary gasped, "It must be illegal! It's my personal property. Don't you dare!"
He chuckled.
"Mary, I told you many times I'm not this kind of person. I can do it if you ask me to." He straightened his back and all his looks showed that he was a respectable man and would never do anything of the kind without prior permission. But Mary knew better, she walked around the town with a tracker in her cell phone and she had no idea about it, letting alone giving her permission to it.
"Oh, please! Spare me this bullshit." She turned away not willing to let him see that she was tempted by his offer. She knew now that deals with Mr. Jim Scott were dangerous and devastating and would ruin her relationship with Daniel probably sooner than later, so the wisest choice she could make would be staying completely clear of them.
"You can think whatever you want. But all that I do is done only for your wellbeing. My offer stays open though. If you wish to get rid of this thing on your wrist at least for some time without letting your precious Daniel know then all you need to do is unblock my number (that is forever, not for one day) and send me a serial number of the thing as well as the time when you plan to put it on again. Then even if you leave it at home, he won't know you took it off."
To Mary he looked now like a Devil trying to tempt her to take the sinful apple, all she needed to do was unblocking his number, and then she could meet her friends or do whatever she wanted and still keep it private. But she repeated like a mantra in her mind "Stay clear of the deals, stay clear of the deals…" So she refused his offer and wanted to get away from him as soon as possible.
"You refuse now. But I'm sure you'll change your mind very quickly…" He gave her a crooked smile. "By the way, I don't think that this bodyguard of yours will keep his mouth shut this time. I bet that Daniel will find out about our meeting as soon as I leave you."
Mary's heart made a summersault. He was probably right, even if Marcus helped her from time to time; today's incident would not be something that he could keep in secret. At least because Daniel hired him to keep Jim away and today the mission was officially failed. She was not ready for the consequences yet, she was not used to the bracelet but if he made any other requests to her and tried to restrict her movement even further she was not sure she could stand it any longer.
She turned away from Jim, her face sullen, and headed back to Marcus. For her the run was over, she did not want to continue.
Jim shrugged at her silent retreat and called after her, "And Mary, I forgot to tell you. I really missed you!"
"F**k off!" She muttered under her breath.
