45.45% Barbaroi : Tech and Steel / Chapter 14: I am the Destroyer

章節 14: I am the Destroyer

Governor Rothgarr, slowly opening his eyes, finally awoke from his rather short slumber. Even though all the screeching sounds of lasers and plasmas had now ceased to be heard, yet the fierce battle itself, between the band of barbarians and their hideous opponent, was still far from over. Over yonder, he saw the barbarian prince, with only a few honor guards around him, facing the demon in person while standing on his ground. His tech-sword was held aloft toward the enemy, and his eyes, the very reflections of his spirit, were glaring with both courage and utmost hatred. Both sides were in a stalemate that seemed everlasting and yet, at the same time, so fragile to be broken in any minute. Gael, currently on a right flank of the battlefield near Rothgarr, sought for the right moment to get her VIP out of the scene. However, since she well knew that Glen-gohr was also noticing her every movement by its instinct, she could not do anything reckless that would unnecessarily disturb it.

Aelthred moved his feet inch by inch sideways, circling the monster in a slow manner while on his guard. Glen-gohr, too, was keeping its eyes on the barbarian, carefully thinking of where to strike him first. The honor guards had withdrawn their swords, but instead took out their ranged weaponry so as to provide their master with some covering fire if needed. Aelthred's exo-skeleton hissed slightly each time its artificial muscles made contractions and then released. The monster's muscular body was, likewise, filled with utmost tension so that it would likely rush onto the enemy anytime soon. The rest, including Gael and the honor guards, remained still and quiet while the two were closely examining each other's movements.

Glen-gohr, now seeming tired of holding itself back from its prey, was the one to act first. After howling out loud, it charged into Aelthred's position with its talons ready to tear the opponent apart. The monster swung the chitinous blade toward him, making a huge diagonal arc with it. The Prince already knew in advance that it would make such move onto him; swiftly rolling to his right, he successfully evaded the enemy's incoming attack without difficulties. Another moment of stillness arrived. They both well knew that their opponents were not an easy match at all. Maintaining some distance between them, they each sought for their adversaries' weak points they could possibly make use of. The barbarian prince, then, took an initiative and made his counterattack against the beast. Despite the absence of his turbo-boost, the entire system of artificial muscles alone, embedded in his ancient, heirloom armor, provided enough power for him to leap high in the air. As he descended from above, he wielded his tech-sword vertically onto the foe, from its head up to the monster's groin. Glen-gohr, yet, succeeded in escaping his fury from the skies. Aelthred, not to lose his chance, followed up the assault by swinging his sword lower right to upper left above. The sword managed to hit Glen-gohr's upper body and succeeded in cleaving its flesh greatly. The beast screamed in pain as the blood spilled out of its wound. He then whirled backward from his foe, making himself out of its reach.

"Alas, my foe, from whom I expected a bloody and yet honorable duel, was, in fact, nothing but a coward, a weakling with sullen heart! Bear witness to all these happening before thy eyes; with only a single slice of my proud war-gear the beast has faltered, and now is bleeding!" So did Aelthred mock his wounded opponent.

The beast clearly understood what he meant by his arrogant words. He shall die, horribly, and lie flat under its feet with his innards spilled on the ground; so direly pledged Glen-gohr unto its enemy's fate. The beast once again fanned out its humongous talons, and rushed onto the Prince so as to utterly tear his flesh. He evaded the attack as well without breaking a sweat. However, he, the valiant Prince of Geats, could not help but become astounded at what he had seen only a second ago; the beast's wound was nowhere to be found. Glen-gohr, with its distorted mouth, grinned horridly as if it was thoroughly enjoying Aelthred's perplexity on what he had just found out about his enemy. The beast then tirelessly pressed on its assault. It again swung the huge, organic blade onto its foe, and tried to cut him with its sharp claws on the feet while flipping backwards. The Prince barely managed to save his life from the enemy's retaliation by using all his evasive maneuvers he had ever learned in the past.

Glen-gohr was relentless, indeed, for it did not even waste nor hesitate a single moment to keep up with its assault. Without given any second to catch his breath, he was forced to jump away from the rampaging monster just to evade its another attack. Now, it was Glen-gohr's turn to laugh at the opponent. A hologram, seeming like a person's face in bluish hue, appeared near the right side of the monster's head.

"Look at thy own self; thou art the one who art now running away from thy destined doom like a coward. Nevertheless, no matter how much thou try to escape thy miserable fate, it shall never be so, for such is inevitable even with the very might and strength of thine in thyself." The hologram rattled.

Glen-gohr gave a short, yet bizarre laugh at him, and then soon roared aloud like a frenzied beast. It leaped up high and fell onto the Prince at a terrifying speed, so as to cut him apart with its clawed, humongous paws. Aelthred barely saved his life by, instinctively, blocking its brutal attack from above with his sword. However, the ancient war-gear, which had been passed down for innumerable generations, (woe to the brave barbarian, the wielder of such fine blade of great ancestry!) was broken in the process. With the foe's war-gear now utterly destroyed, Glen-gohr finally became certain of its victory. Fueled by fury and firm confidence, it attacked the Prince with much more ferocity than he had ever done for this entire night. Aelthred had no choice, at the moment, but to focus on escaping the wrath of its claws and talons. Then, he dashed through the monster's legs, and made a distance away from it. He was trying hard to come up with some good plans that would help him bring down the beast. Though his sword was now shredded into pieces, it turned out to be of no use, anyhow, to hurt Glen-gohr with a sharp blade; its wounded flesh would just regenerate anew no matter how one had skillfully cut the monster. He, at this point, needed to find some other way to effectively harm the enemy despite its formidable regenerating capabilities.

Meanwhile, Gael had been able to notice that the beast was now deeply immersed in the fight with its opponent. This was her chance to break into the combat, in aid of her master currently facing the grievous peril. She checked her gauntlet, a knuckle-shaped close combat weapon, whether it had been loaded with its 20-gauge ammunitions, preferably buckshot shells; and it was found out to be well readied for action. Right on the second where the monster was lifting its right arm to strike Aelthred, the tech-maiden of valor soared high into the air with her jetpack. She then, as she was landing on the ground, punched Glen-gohr's shoulder with all the strength she could possibly muster at that moment. The gauntlet blasted and spitted out its large, empty cartridges, with blood and gore spurting everywhere near the victim. It cried aloud in great agony, and stumbled in the face of the barbarian Prince. Then it smacked Gael with a swing of its right arm still hanging on the wounded shoulder. Gael flew far away, and got smashed into the brick wall. She, too, got hurt and passed out, but yet her life signal was still on.

Aelthred could not possibly lose this precious chance that his friend had earned for him. He ran into the monster, and grabbed its right arm so as to completely rip it out of its socket. In utmost pain and agony, Glen-gohr also grabbed his right hand with its counterpart which was still intact. The two then began to wrestle with each other. More blood spurted out of the monster's right shoulder as the wrestling continued on. Aelthred's exo-skeleton started to make squeaking sounds since it was being given the enormous pressures it could ever barely sustain. Glen-gohr, though wounded severely, was clearly maintaining the upper hand against its foe in terms of pure strength and vigor. However, the barbarian Prince did not seem, at all, to be defeated yet. Rather, his eyes were burning with eagerness for the destined glory. He was still willing to fight on and then achieve his triumph in the end. He raised his voice to the limits, and then shouted in the face of his monstrous nemesis.

"Mark my words, ye foul beast; I am Prince Aelthred, the eldest son to the great king Aelfred who now rules over all the Geats in this universe. I am the killer, for I have slain countless foes in numerous battles ever since I was accepted into the honorable ranks of tech-warriors. I am the annihilator, for there lie hundreds and thousands of ruined bastions that were collapsed before the might of my ferocious army. I am the fear incarnate, for I have become the walking terror to all those who tread the ground of Gaia-seven. I am the destroyer, for, once and for all, I shall now rip thy arm from the body, and utterly destroy thy flesh into mere dust!"

With this said aloud, he completely tore off the monster's arm with all his strength.
