Li Na woke up early the next morning, her body stiff from the restless night. The room was still dim, with the first rays of sunlight creeping through the curtains. She blinked, groggy and disoriented for a moment, before the realization hit her—Her eyes immediately darted to the other side of the bed, and her sank to see it empty and cold. Lu Jianjun hadn't really come home. She checked the landline by the nightstand, but there were no missed calls or messages. No signs that he had even tried to contact her.

She sat up in bed, rubbing her temples as a dull ache throbbed behind her eyes. The few hours of sleep she had managed to get were restless, interrupted by the constant worry gnawing at the back of her mind. Why hadn't he returned?

The house felt eerily quiet. She had half-expected to hear him moving around in the early hours, but there was nothing. No footsteps, no hushed voices from the staff. Just silence.
