The noise was getting closer, and it did not sound like it was coming from just a small number of Thunder Wolves.
THUD!
THUD!
To their horror, not just hundreds of wolves were running towards them. Large boars, rhinos, tigers, and other middle-class beast were also coming on their way.
"Fvcking Long Jun! What are you still looking at?! Run!" Long Cheng screamed as he ran from the beasts coming towards them.
Long Jun was looking at the scene dumbfounded, as he could not comprehend what Long Cheng had done this time. It took a while before it finally dawned on him what his cousin had said earlier.
"Run!" Long Jun yelled to his soldiers before he looked at Lu Meili and uttered with a grin, "Hold on tight," he then carried Lu Meili bridal style.
They were so close that Lu Meili found it extremely uncomfortable. She subconsciously moved away from him, and for some reason, Long Jun decided to keep her closer as he quickly sprinted to get away from the tide of the beasts that were approaching.
"You-" Lu Meili looked at Long Jun's face, but she was caught off guard. Long Jun was partially shifted, his face and the part of his body that was not hidden by the uniform.
This was the first time she was able to look at Long Jun this close, and he looked like Long Cheng with a more serious vibe going on.
Noticing her gaze, "I will melt if you continued to stare like that. Also, we don't want someone to be mad at me," He said without looking at her but hinted that he knew about her real connection with Long Cheng.
Lu Meili frowned but did not answer. She did not know how to answer him despite not caring if others knew that Long Cheng was her mate.
She decided to shift her gaze away from Long Jun and leaned back slightly to look over his arm, to see what was happening behind them.
The beasts had already caused damage to the surrounding places. Trees were almost all taken down and more to go.
It was a good thing that they were only on the Blue Area of the Thunder Forest, and the other areas were sealed. That was because most of the beasts' class in the Thunder Forest would not be higher than the middle class.
Who knew how much damage it would cost them if beasts from the Yellow area suddenly got out of their territory and decided to roam free?
She was also able to see Long Cheng partially shifted as he ran away from the beasts. He was on a quiet safe distance that made Lu Meili sigh in relief.
The beasts had long passed the carcass of the thunder wolves. Since that was the case, it seemed that its smell of blood had not enticed the beasts after all.
"Why are they still following us?" Lu Meili heard one of Long Jun's subordinates say. The male shifter also noticed the strange action of the beasts that were still chasing them.
'Why? That is an excellent question,' She also had the same question. But Lu Meili decided that it was best to continue to study the beasts behind them instead. She did not want to be blamed for the sudden incident in the event she hinted that have some wild guesses of what was going on.
"I hope the rest did not encounter this!" Another shifter with them said.
A shifter suggested, "Commander! Let's go to the hill."
"No! A cliff is better!" While another demanded.
Long Jun silently agreed on the second suggestion since there was a lower chance for the beasts to follow them where the trail was stiffer.
It was best to avoid them at any cost because even though they were dragon shifters, dealing with beasts on a rampage will not do them any benefit.
While the others were running, Lu Meili just continued to study the movement of the beasts. She could not come up with a solid theory, aside from magic being involved.
She also could not ignore Long Cheng's unhappy gaze that was fixed at her.
Lu Meili mockingly smiled at him, before sticking her tongue out like a child. Lu Meili could not help but laughed hard when Long Cheng glared in annoyance.
'Just wait,' Long Cheng mouthed as he lifts his chin up with silent promise to get back at her...
