I'm honestly quite lucky most of the time, as I'm usually able to set up circumstances that favor me.
(I wanted to add this preface since I've talked about bad luck a few times recently)
Today, I went whale watching and ended up seeing 0 whales total. Now I just have a few gigabytes of 8k ocean footage, which also contains birds diving for food. I guess that's a decent compromise.
Apparently, there's usually roughly a 95% chance of seeing at least a single whale species. We sadly didn't see a single marine animal.
It also happened to be insanely windy, which might have had an impact. (If you didn't hold on to something at all times, you'd be knocked over in a few seconds)
