The best kind of comedy is universal. It is the kind that can ignore language barriers and amuse the young and old. A few examples of the kind I'm talking about would be good old Tom and Jerry and Mr. Bean.
Clowns also understand this point. Although they are currently quite feared due to horror movies, they understood what was funny. For example: a pie slap in the face, goofy big shoes, honking noses and lots more.
In comparison, comedians generally need to make fun of something or someone to amuse the crowd. Oftentimes, they make fun of themselves during their acts. They also like to make fun of controversial topics. Thus it is almost impossible for them not to hurt someone's feelings, be it their own or a stranger's.
