章節 30: Chapter 30 : Temptation
I guess last chapter was a bit confusing for some people, so Imma clear that up right now boi. This chapter is dark, so I promise It'll get happier...eventually. Esketit.

Teammate chemistry had improved greatly, but Kenji hadn't slept a wink for the past week. He enjoyed it, the sleepover. But when he returned home, he realized that feeling was temporary, just like everything else in this world.....except his pain. After a few weeks of just thinking instead of sleeping, Aya became worried. She always checked on Kenji during the night, It became a habit. Lately, He would always be on the roof in the middle of the night, staring into the abyss called the moonlight. Aya could feel the detachment from her boy. Kakashi told Aya about his sleepover plan and she approved. She realized it may have taken his mind away from things for a minute, but he needed a permanent solution.
Kenji finally decided that sleep was needed. It used to be his best friend, and now he couldn't even talk with it. He laid his head down and drifted off into sleep.

"Why'd you do it?"
Kenji whirled around. The atmosphere was black. Red light filtered through slightly. He was in a void, floating around.
"Why?"
"Why'd you kill me?"
"Kenji, Why?"
Countless voices pestered Kenji's head. His mind wanted to explode. He darted around, trying to locate the culprit. Anyone. Someone that could make the voices stop. Kenji started crying. Begging it to stop. He turned around and was faced with every face he had killed. His classmates and team. Before he could say anything, a gruesome body surfaced from the void behind Kenji. The body was mangled. The eyes were smashed into goo, trailing from sockets. The small intestine hung from the slit in the abdomen. Spilling and sloshing around. Kenji heard the commotion at last. The hair on his neck and arms flailed, standing straight up. He swallowed a dry lump and peeked his head around.
The mangled body of Hansuke grabbed Kenji by the shoulders, coming face to face with only centimeters to spare.
"IT'S YOUR TURN KENJI!!!!!!!"
The reincarnate of Hansuke bit Kenji's neck and gargled down the blood and tissue. Kenji was frozen. The painful zombie bite made him feel better. Like he was getting what he deserved.
"KENJI!!!"
"KENJI!!!!!!!!!"
The boy bounced up from his bed, awake as he'll ever be. His own hand was still in the process of gutting himself. Part of his sword had cut open into his stomach. It wasn't that deep, but it wasn't good. Aya stood over Kenji, still placing her hands on his shoulders. Sweat matted Kenji deep into the sheets along with his own blood. He unconsciously activated his white glow. It danced in the dark, picking up the sobbing face of Aya, just in time before she hugged him.
"Let's go. Right now!" Aya picked him up, with blood staining her shirt.

Team 7 was shocked when they heard the news. Kenji had tried to kill himself. Unconsciously or not, it still happened. If Kenji was completely honest, he wished he would have done it. Because now, the voices wouldn't stop. He could hear them all around him. Images randomly appearing out of no where. The emotion engulfing him roused his eyes, he couldn't calm himself. Kenji could feel himself slipping into the insanity. He didn't even realize Aya, Minato, and Team 7 were standing across from him, trying to get his attention.
Kenji cupped his ears and nestled his head into his knees.

He felt the air change. Kenji was back in the watered darkness. The red gate. The giant eyes. The deep voice said, "You don't look so good boy."
The silhouette of a monster appeared. "My name is Kurama. Why don't we finish our conversation."
"Wh...what do you want." Kenji checked around for voices, but they were blocked in this space. He breathed relief.
"I have a proposition. If you get me out of here, I'll help you take your revenge."
Kenji gazed at the fox. "Why?"
Kurama thought for a moment, wanting to choose his words carefully. "I want to destroy. That's it. If you want to, we can destroy every ninja village. No one will be able to hurt you anymore." Kurama smiled. He lowered his head to directly in Kenji's face. "Just imagine the possibilities."
"All you have to do is get me out."
Kenji looked around. "Where are we in the first place?"
Kurama was patient. It was unlike him, but this was a good chance. "I'm sealed inside your little teammate."
"....Rei?"
"Yes."
"I've read about jinchurikis in the past. Is it true that she'll die....if I let you out?" Kenji narrowed his white eyes.
Kurama was curious, but let it slide. "Yes, but you know she'll betray you eventually. Just like everyone else."
Kenji was triggered. (lol) "YOU'RE WRONG! MY FRIENDS NEVER BETRAYED ME, IT WAS THE MIST!"
"You think that, but do you know for sure?"
"AAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" Kenji rubbed his hair furiously. "STOP TRYING TO DO THAT!"
Kurama laughed. "Fine, but when it happens again, you'll be back." He backed away into the darkness.

Kenji came to. Rei acted on her own. She had Kenji around the neck, rubbing the back of his head. He sat there for a moment. No voices, nothing. Just a warm feeling. He backed away slowly, still thinking about the Nine-tail's offer. He was ashamed to consider it, but he stored it in the cellar for a rainy day. If it came to it, he would do what was necessary.
Minato stepped forward and cleared his voice. "Kenji, Rei, Sasuke, I want to send you three on a mission, but it'll be one for yourselves."
Rei took her eyes from Kenji and eyed Minato. "What do you mean dad?"
I want you three to grow as quick as possible. We still aren't sure what is being planned in the underworld, but I'm sure we'll need all the help we can get. "Sasuke, I heard you'd like to take up swordsmanship. Am I right?" Sasuke nodded.
"Alright, Aya, would you be willing to travel with Sasuke and teach him?"
Aya hesitated. "Um... If you insist Lord Hokage. May I ask were we'll be going?"
"That's up to you. Travel the land of Fire, train, complete missions." Minato leaned into her ear. "Show him what it means to be a ninja. Like when you saved Kakashi. I know you have the will of fire." He smiled.
Aya nodded. "Yes sir."
Minato was satisfied. Without turning, "Kakashi, can you do the same with Rei?"
"WHAT!?! I don't wanna leave the village!!!" Rei blurted out.
"It'll be fine." Minato became solemn. "The bird has to leave the nest eventually." He rubbed Rei's shoulder. Then, leaned into Kakashi's ear.
"Help her gain control."
Kakashi nodded.
"I was planning to split you three onto your own paths for a little bit now. So, Kenji, I have called a certain man back to the village. You'll travel with him for a while, learn as much as you can. Later, He'll bring you to another man. He'll be your real teacher."
Kenji just nodded. Hearing faint screams, he didn't really hear much.

The next morning, Hugs all around. Kenji hugged everyone. It was one moment where the voices would fade. He didn't get any rest in that hospital bed, so he looked pitiful. Enriched with his leaf headband and attire, Rei and Aya were the final ones. Aya engulfed him.
"Make sure you come back, You understand?"
"Yes ma'am." The attentive salute was a thing of the past.
Aya didn't want to let go, but it was time.
Kenji approached Rei. They stood, staring at each other. Both didn't know what to say.
Kenji just grabbed her back and fell into it.
"D..Don't die." Rei said.
"You too."
A man treaded the dirt road headed toward the Leaf gate. The giant mop of hair and the clank of wooden sandals prompted everyone's gaze.
"Hmmmm. Well, I'm ready. How about you?"
Kenji nodded.
"Nice to meet you." A smug face appeared. "I'm JIRAIYA. THE LEGENDARY TOAD SAGE!"
Kenji grumbled. "Great, another one of these."
Everyone exchanged some small talk. Kenji had the most secretive mission, where Minato wouldn't tell him anything. He would try and pry some info from Jiraiya when they left. Minato wished everyone the best of luck. After one last goodbye, Team 7 went their separate ways. Not knowing what lies ahead.

Rei followed Kakashi, thinking to herself. "Don't die?" She thought to herself. "Stupid." She cringed at herself.

Note : So...this was a little dark. My thoughts were a little jumbled, so I don't really know if this chapter is.....up to snuff. I'm too hard on myself. Alright, I'm tired. Mondays. I wanted to get this out though. I'm gonna dedicate a chapter, maybe a few to each group. I like stories that do this. Every member will go through some kind of change, so it'll be interesting. Hope this clears up that Kenji isn't fine. I used that sleepover as a distraction from his real problems. What i was going for was in his mind, he'd been in the state of ice cold since Hansuke. Then he had a small night of joy. After a little bit of happiness, the sleepover, he was thrust back into that state, so it jarred him a little bit. Who knows. I'm making this too complicated. I'm out. YERRR!
