章節 14: A Fleeting Moment
Being taken in by the beauty of it all, I hadn't noticed Caleb walking up towards me until he was only a few feet away from me. Taking my eyes off of the night sky I looked straight into his eyes, although it was dark, the moonlight lit up his features and I could see him studying me.
I smiled nervously, my heart racing due to his piercing gaze as he took a few steps closer to me until I had to look up to see his face.
Without any word he reached out and gently brushed his fingers across my cheek, his touch was electric and it sent shivers down my spine.
"You're beautiful, you know that?" I figured it was a rhetorical question but the words still made me flush red.
He reached out and pulled me to him, one hand on my waist and the other behind my neck. He tipped my head up and lowered his lips to mine. I closed my eyes and melted as my whole body was consumed by his kiss.
Chills ran over my skin, and my heart was on fire. His body pressed closer to mine, and I wrapped my arms around his neck. His lips were softer than anything I could have imagined, yet fierce and powerful at the same time. I responded hungrily and tightened my hold on him. His fingers slid down the back of my neck, tracing its shape, and every place they touched was electric. And then suddenly he withdrew, I gasped for air still dazed by what had just happened.
He stepped back and looked at me with sorrow in his eyes, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to.." for a moment I froze, unable to answer "I.. it's okay."
He shook his head, seeming to get agitated by my words, "No, It's not. I should go."
He turned and stormed back to the house, I stood alone under the moonlight. Tracing my fingers over my lips, I could still feel his kiss. Taste the sweetness of it.
for a moment I stood to take it all in. It had happened so fast, did it actually happen?
By the time I had gone back to the drawing-room he was gone, having said his goodbyes to my parents. I figured they assumed he had said goodbye to me as well. but he hadn't.
wishing them a good night I retired to my chambers. I tossed and turned in my bed unable to fall asleep as my mind drifted to thoughts of him.
