Opening the stale box of "POPS", I dug my hand inside and grabbed the circle shaped cereal before eating it. The harsh taste of cardboard rang through my mouth, but I continued to eat until my growling stomach was satisfied. Just then, the door slammed open. I jolted up and quickly turned on the tap to rinse my hands. Garret walked in with his shirt messed up and bags under his eyes.
"Do you want anything to eat? I can to to the store to-
"Shut up! Your voice annoys me." He said, ripping his jacket off and throwing it on the chair. I quickly closed my mouth and turned back around to put the box of cereal away. He sat down on the couch before turning on the TV.
"Where did you go last night?" He asked. His head still facing the TV.
"I, went out for a walk." I quickly answered.
"Why?" He asked.
"I couldn't sleep." I said. There was no reply.
I was just about to turn around when my head was slammed into the counter. My vision blurred as pain quickly rang out in my ear.
"You couldn't sleep huh? Or were you out in someone else's bed?" He growled in my ear.
"No, I wouldn't, I won't." There was a brief silence where none of us spoke, or maybe the ringing in my ear distracted me. A moment later, his grip released on my hair. I slowly pulled myself up from the counter. When I turned around, Garret had tears in his eyes. He glanced at me before putting a hand up to my face. I flinched. He drew his hand away and the first thing I noticed was the blood covering his fingers. I touched my ear slightly and felt the wet red liquid coat my fingers as well. He dropped his hand to his side.
"Why doesn't she love me?" His voice cracked out. I softly smiled and gently rapped my arms around him slowly so he wouldn't react too fast. He rested his head on my shoulder. And cried.
Cried about how life was always so unfair. Something me and him found comfort in each other because of.
We would do anything for the person we love to like us back. If only they would look in are direction.
I cried silently while hugging him, my heart was already broken long ago, but I'm always left in tears by him. Every time.

When I woke up in bed, Garret was long gone, and the warm hug I felt during the night had completely disappeared into a cold feeling of an empty bed. I quickly got up and went into the shower.
My ear had gotten swollen from the hit last night, I went to the fridge and grabbed an ice pack to take with me after changing into my uniform.
I had curly hair down to the sides of my faces that matched my dark, caramel skin tone, I put a small red hair clip on the side of my hair, silently praying that my hair would cover my ears.
The walk to school was quiet, peaceful. I was just about to turn into the school gate when I bumped into someone. My hair clip that was put on delicately fell out. My hair moving back a bit.
"I'm so sorry-"
The person looked at me with shocked eyes, and for some reason , my mood was instantly lifted.
"Who, are you?" I said, noticing the feeling I felt, they felt as well. The man's face changed instantly, quickly, he picked up my red hair clip before handing it to me.
"Adam." He said smiling slightly. I grabbed the hair pin and before I could reply with my own name, he rushed off.
And for the first time in months- no, the first time in years,
My heart beat picked up.
