In the square, four figures could be seen standing after the blue light had disappeared.
Still left conscious was an average looking blonde that had freckles on her face. She jumped in the air for joy when she saw that she was one of the few still standing in the midst of collapsed bodies.
Also standing was a baldie who looked frighteningly around. Surprisingly, it was the same fellow that had asked his question earlier, only to be met with scorn by the girl he had inquired of.
Lastly, a couple could be seen resting against a wall. A male with dreads held a small petite figure tightly consoling her.
....
"Interesting...., there are four with potential."
The green messy haired luke uttered as he saw the results.
" Hehe, seems we were lucky this time"
Team leader Malgrey blurted out as a smile blossomed on his face.
" There has always been complaints of the lack of talent within this city from each team that has been awarded this mission
If one talent is found within a mission, it is deemed successful. Which has made this mission one that is undesired by all, but to find four.
Hehe...., let's see those bastards who mocked us, turn their noses up on us now. We struck the damn motherload without lifting a finger."
Excited laughter was heard as Nisha could not contain herself.
"It wouldn't be so bad to rub this in their faces as we return indeed. Just imagine the looks on them when we are rewarded."
The normal nonchalant Cameron spoke as he eyed the four that were still conscious.
" Wait...., doesn't that guy match the description of the one they call the Mouse"
Luke pointed at the couple resting against the wall conversing.
" It should be him. What are the odds of finding two 14-year-olds, with dreads that carry hammers on their backs?"
Intrigue filled the fiery-haired leader Malgrey as he looked at Taf. How could he not be after the story that was told by city Lord Marvel? This youth was worthy of attention after his feat?
" To think he can cultivate. Lovren, why so quiet all of a sudden. Usually, your Mouth would be the first to be yapping off. You're making Cameron seem like a singing bird in comparison."
To the side Nisha could not help but broach the topic after seeing the usual boisterous Lovren, not uttering a single word.
" I am just a little surprised that's all"
A simple statement followed as Lovren just eyed the youth.
" Guess you're worth a bit of interest after all"
He thought while looking at the others that had passed the test.
...
Personnel soon came into the square where they assisted those that had failed to pass the test and laid down unconscious.
A substance could be seen in their hands as they made sure to put it to the noses of those that had passed out.
Soon they started to regain their consciousness one by one. As they woke and saw their state, the disappointment could not be hidden as they knew they had failed.
The once bragging robust youth hanged his head in shame as he was helped to his feet by someone he was familiar with. It was his mother but there was no disappointed on her face as she hugged her son and helped him out of the square.
Scenes like this played out Continuously within the square as the defeated hopelessly exited. One of them was the same girl that had yelled at the bald-headed youth.
When she saw that he was one of the few that was qualified. There was no hole in the ground small enough that she wouldn't try to hide herself in at the moment.
" He actually has such a future ahead of him. "
She sighed while staring at the bald youth who did not pay her any attention. It was not that he was being snobbish but he was actually in a dazed state and forgot what was happening around him.
As the last person left the square it became quiet, the time had arrived for the next stage of testing.
Nisha went to have a seat as Malgrey once again came forward. He looked at the remaining four and smiled.
" To deem this a test may be termed incorrectly. As you have already qualified by having a dantian and are able to cultivate. This phase we enter into at the moment is to learn your affinity. What is affinity? It is the path that you are more inclined to trot while cultivating"
" There are four main paths that we cultivators have by which to go by. There is elements, spirits, demonification and devilish.
Elements is the most common, as most cultivators tend to have this affinity. You might have an affinity to an element such as fire, wind, water, earth, darkness, light etc. Each has other subdivisions as well as higher and lower classes.
Spirit affinity is not as common as elements. It has to do with your ability to access the spiritual realms that are connecting with spirit weapons, spirit beasts, cultivation material etc.
Demonification Is a special type of cultivation that deals with bloodline. It allows the lucky individual to tap into his ancestral lineage and transform his or her body as such.
The purer the bloodline the more strength one tends to receive. It is also a path that can be attained through outside means if one does not have the bloodline. However, the results are normally subpar compared to someone with pure bloodline.
Lastly, there is the path of the devil. Details on this cultivation path is not recorded much but it is the way most despised.
Basically one who gains the spirit affinity has the potential of three paths (Spirit, Elemental, and Demonification). To walk the path of the devil is impossible with the due to clashing of affinities. Vise versa for the devil path.
As they are like oil and water that will not mix. The reason for this is not known by us but that is the case.
Are there any questions?"
Malgrey asked as he saw the curious gazes of the four before him.
" Just to be sure senior, one can cultivate in more than one affinity? Is one more important than the other?"
Taf inquired from the fiery red-haired team leader Malgrey as the topic caught his liking. He had asked anonymous corpse number one many things.
He, however, was one that could not even be termed scraping the barrel bottom when it came to knowledge.
Seeing that it was the Mouse asking, Malgrey smiled and responded.
"One can cultivate with three affinities the maximum. Other than the combination of devil and spirit. The more affinities, the more rear as there normally tends to be one or two that lag far behind the more prepared.
Also although elements is common, it is said that as one cultivated to higher realms, the element evolves into laws and act as one's foundation. How much of this is true at our level we do not know."
Taf bowed and thanked the team leader after receiving his desired answer.
Malgrey once more continued after nodding to Taf. He then took four orbs from a seemingly small pouch as if performing magic.
They varied in shades and colours. They were red, green, white and dark purple.
" These orbs will test your affinity towards the different paths. A percentage is shown after your hand touch the orbs.
Green is identified as the element, white spirits, red is demonification and lastly dark purple is the devilish path.
To be honest, it is rare to find those with affinity to demonification, spirits and the devil among mortals. This is a custom however of our sect, so we will do as such and test all of them.
Also due to there being many elements, we will do further testing to see which exact ones you were given a result for when you are taken to the sect. The orb will only tell you the percentage and not the element.
You will be first baldie. Give me your name and age then proceed to touch each orb."
The baldie Damian nervously made his way towards the five cultivators on the platform. As he came close to the orbs he stuttered.
" My name is Damian and I'm 16"
" Greetings Damian please proceed to the orbs and touch one at a time"
Malgrey instructed as he saw the frightened youth.
First Damian touched the red orb but nothing happened. He then proceeded to touch the white orb that did not glow either.
Sweat washed his face as he looked at the unchanging faces of the cultivator who seemed to have expected such result from him.
He then touched the purple orb and once again nothing happened. His hand shook as he saw the last orb. As he touches it lit up to show in red ( 8% affinity Elements).
I'll just leave this chapter here. This chapter is longer than usual for a reason. I'm approaching the 50 chapter mark, so I'm trying to reach the 50k word mark at that moment or slightly before.
When I initial started the first chapters were not that long. The first 20 or so chapters.
Anyways likes, comments, votes and library adds are appreciated.
