章節 65: The Accord (4)

"What could Kavira be up to, it's already late." Brenda was worried about the girl, Clain hadn't woken up and he was running up a fever. Linx was beginning to worry about her himself but he knew that his sister wouldn't let anything happen to her so he tried to remain as calm as possible.

"They'll be back soon, all we can do is hope that this fever is only a temporary effect from whatever was inside of him." Linx remained seated on the chair next to the bed where Clain was laid out. Linx's calmness relaxed Brenda a bit, she then took the opportunity and sat on the other bed where Dalton was sitting.

"This kind of magic was only possible by someone Lord Yoru talked about before, her name was Katia. She did a few jobs here and there for Lord Yoru, she was always known as the witch of the underworld." Dalton felt a chill slowly going down his spine. "She never goes around doing things on her own. Someone must've been paying a large amount of shells to do something like this... but who?"

The room remained silent for a while, everyone was just looking at Clain watching his fever fade away. His eyes opened but he couldn't move his body. Linx stood up off his chair, quickly pouring some water into a copper cup and helped Clain drink it. "How do you feel man?" Linx was worried that Clain wouldn't wake up the whole night.

"I feel like crap. What happened?" Clain only remembered listening to the whispers in his head louder than in the morning and it took over his mind, unable to move or think. Brenda moved up and removed the sweat from Clain's face with the towel they had in the bowl of cold water.

"We don't know but we have some suspicions. When Kavira and the others return we will have a better idea of what happened." Brenda finished wiping Clain's face and he thanked her.

"All I remember is a woman's face and she was telling me to come to her but the closer we got to the cane the stronger her voice became and I felt this agonizing pain in my head." Clain felt like something may have happened to cause this. "I'm pretty sure I had never seen her before so I wasn't sure why she was telling me to come to her so I just ignored it."

"Your connection with Kavira allowed you to ignore Katia, otherwise her spell would have charmed you way too much that you would have gone crazy looking for her." Dalton explained his basic knowledge to Clain. "Is that who did this to me? Katia?"

Dalton nodded, "You've heard of her?"

"Yes, I often did some work for a General from my city. A lot of the missions I took had to do with some of her handy work, never would I thought that I would be targeted." Clain was a bit surprised, he was sure he wasn't on anyone's hit list.

"It's someone that knows about you all but they don't know the way magic works." Dalton was certain that whoever it was, they had no idea about how this sort of magic would affect magic wielders.

The door to the men's room opened, Kavira and the other's walked in to find Clain sitting up against the beds headboard. "You're back." Linx stood up and walked over to Kavira, he was so worried he almost left the calm facade and ran out to go find her. "Are you okay?" Linx looked around Kavira's face and body to see if there were any marks but she was perfectly well.

"She's fine, you should see the other girl." Nyla couldn't help but laugh. "How're you doing, big guy?" She directed the question to Clain who looked a little more pale than usual.

"I've felt better. Did you guys bring any good news?" Clain was expressionless at the display of affection coming from Kavira and Linx. He was hoping that Nyla or Lucas would be able to answer him but they said nothing.

Kavira stepped forward still holding onto Linx's hand. "I was able to find the spell books that this Katia had in her possession. The person that was trying to take the Dragon Elder compass from us was Prince Jacob. Tonight we will sleep here, I have a couple of words to exchange with King Adonis tomorrow before we leave."

No one argued, they parted ways and the girls slept with each other while the boys remained together. "Are you sure you didn't have more things to ask Clain?" Brenda was a little worried that Kavira hadn't said enough to him or that there wasn't enough communication between them.

"There was nothing left to say." Kavira was getting ready to sleep. Nyla understood why Brenda was worried but she simply didn't think it was that big of a deal to talk about.
