章節 50: Closing the Fissure

Not knowing Jia Bi Yu's thoughts, the Abbot started to explain the history of the fissure to him.

"There are no records on how it formed.

It just seemed to appear out of nowhere one day.

Different levels of fissures can allow different levels of vile creatures to go through.

For example, this here is a low tier fissure and likewise, it only allows lesser devils to pass through.

If an even slightly more powerful devil were to try and come through to our side, the fissure will become unstable and will collapse not long after, destroying all creatures inside with it."

"If it so so dangerous to have around, why do you still keep it sealed here instead of destroying it?" Jia Bi Yu asked, interrupting the Abbot.

"It is easier said than done," the Abbot shook his head and sighed.

"Can't you just find a higher leveled devil and throw it in there, making the portal collapse on itself?" Jia Bi Yu asked doubtfully.

"You're not the first to suggest this," the Abbot smiled bitterly. "Someone had a similar idea ten thousand years ago, so they traveled to the underworld using a treasure and brought back a higher leveled creature.

They threw the creature into the fissure and it did collapse on itself."

"But?" Jia Bi Yu knew it must not have worked if these fissures are still around today.

"But in the process, the space around it also started to become unstable," the Abbot closed his eyes and shook his head.

"If it weren't for the combined efforts of the deities who came down from the nine heavens, our mortal realm might have been broken into pieces and scattered throughout the endless chaos by now.

That is why, every fissure is sealed and guarded."

Jia Bi Yu fell into thought.

<Ian, will absorbing the portal really not harm the space around it?>

"Trust me, mother! I'm absorbing all of its energy, so it wouldn't even have a chance to collapse.

It was a tear in space and time to begin with, so

once all of its energy is gone, it will naturally close back up."

That did make sense.

The fissures are like a wound on the flesh.

If it keeps getting injured over and over again, it will naturally not close back up.

However, once it is left alone, it will start to heal.

Jia Bi Yu turned towards the Abbot.

"What if I said I can close the portal without disturbing the space around it?"

The Abbot widened his eyes in disbelief.

He has never heard of anyone from any of the three realms who is able to do what Jia Bi Yu just said.

No, there are beings who can do that, but those mysterious seniors have long secluded themselves away from the matters of the three realms.

The Abbot looked at Jia Bi Yu in shock.

Could it be?

He did not dare to continue on his train of thoughts.

He looked at Jia Bi Yu with renewed respect and bowed towards him.

"If Senior can really close the fissure, we will be forever grateful to Senior.

If there is anything Senior needs in the future, then just say the word, and we will do our utmost to fulfill all of them."

Jia Bi Yu did not think the Abbot would put his trust in him so easily.

What he did not know was that the Abbot still had some hesitations and suspicions, but he decided to take a gamble.

If Jia Bi Yu can really do as he said, then it would be for the greater good of the mortal realm.

If he was able to use his life in exchange for the safety of the world, he would have done it long ago without the slightest bit of hesitation.

"But...." Jia Bi Yu started to say.

The Abbot sighed to himself.

As expected, it was not an easy feat.

"But the painting world will lose its source of energy, no longer able to sustain itself," Jia Bi Yu finished.

The Abbot looked at Jia Bi Yu dumbfounded.

[That was all?] he thought.

"Compared to the safety of the mortal realm, this painting world is of no significance," he hurriedly said.

Jia Bi Yu smiled at his reply.

It seemed like he had not misjudged these monks.

"It is not that there is no way to prevent that," he said in a slightly teasing manner. "With the 145 soul powers are the source, I can create a magic circle that gathers energy from the surroundings."

The Abbot had lost count of how many times he was shocked today.

If it was possible to keep this painting world, that would be for the best.

This world contained many priceless historical texts and cultivation techniques.

These were the cores of the monastery itself.

"If there is in any way I can be of use, please give me the command me, Senior," he bowed respectfully.

"It is a simple matter," Jia Bi Yu replied as he waved his hand.

He looked back once again towards the fissure.

"I need to get closer," he said.

The other monks on the platform had long heard the two's conversation, and at Jia Bi Yu's words, they quickly executed a long series of hand symbols.

With sweat that shouldn't have existed dripping down their exhausted faces, they gritted their teeth in deep concentration.

Not even the slightest mistake can be made, or else all of their efforts would go to waste, causing the seal to collapse and allowing the evil miasma within the fissure to seep out towards the outside.

"They can only hold it open for a limited amount of time," the Abbot hurried said.

Jia Bi Yu placed one foot on top of the platform, feeling the chaotic energy within, wanting to corrupt his mind and spirit.

However, when that evil miasma felt Ian's presence, it hurriedly escaped in fear.

The Abbot did not know what to make of this situation.

He simply thought back to his previous conception about Jia Bi Yu possibly being one of those mysterious seniors.

When Jia Bi Yu finally got to the entrance of the fissure, he put his hand out in front.

With only a thought, Ian started to absorb all of its energy.

As the energy got pulled out, the space around the fissure started to close.

The fissure got smaller and smaller and soon, the surrounding space was back to a state of calm never seen before.

The monks loosened their hands in shock.

The pressure they were facing disappeared along with the fissure.

If they did not personally experience it, they would not have believed it at all.

They all looked towards Jia Bi Yu with reverence.
