Yue kept his pace as he walked out of the city gates, he could hear the sounds of disorder from the gates behind him as many tried to make their way out of the city without being inspected by the guards. No doubt many of them not wanting to bribe the guards to look the other way in their searches.
With his current cultivation it was impossible for him to tell what the guards were saying however he could faintly imagine that they would've blacklisted him from all city gates in the future if not for the Token in his hands.
"Yue.." He suddenly heard a faint voice, shocked he immediately started to use his skill to check his surroundings looking for where the voice had come from yet apart from the empty dirt road around him there was nothing out of place. He stood there for several minutes trying to figure out where the voice calling his name had come from, it was simply impossible that he was imagining it.
Calling out in his mind, 'System do you know where that voice came from?' It had already been several minutes and he still hadn't heard it call him again not expecting any results he received a pleasant yet shocking reply.
[The voice the host is referring to came from within his Internal World. The host may recall that despite being transmigrated into this body the Internal World is linked to ones soul not body.]
A surge of adrenaline coursed through his body as a if a fire was reignited inside of him, all of his effort to save them hadn't been for nothing - they were still alive! 'Is there anyway I can contact them?' He asked hurriedly, at his current cultivation level it was impossible to access ones Internal World due to a lack of Spirit Energy yet he held hope that the system may have a way.
[Negative, Host must first regain the minimum cultivation needed to open an Internal World to access it, until then all communication is impossible.]
'Then how did I manage to hear that voice?' Confused he asked, if it was impossible to communicate how was it possible they had managed to contact him?
[This is due to the Hosts Body in his Internal World subconsciously allowing someone near it, the voice the Hosts clone heard is also what you heard just now.]
Of course! Yue almost wanted to punch himself for being so stupid, when a cultivator forms their Internal World they also form an avatar which controls the world; since Yue's soul transmigrated he couldn't contact it so it went into seclusion immediately sealing itself away not allowing anyone in its vicinity, the only puzzle now was who did it allow close?
'Tsk, there's no use thinking of pointless matters like that now, as long as they're safe I know they're alive..' Despite his cold attitude the last shred of indecision Yue's soul had held towards re-cultivating towards the peak had disappeared. Now he had a clear goal and people to protect, the fire that he had lost was replaced by a brighter light, hope.
...
"Apparently the City Lord recruited someone personally!" A voice could be heard from the walls of the Military Camp's fort. "She did? I wonder who managed to impress the Lady." Another voice replied. "You idiot, don't call her a Lady! If the Commander heard that you'd be flogged for disrespecting the Lords Wishes!" The first voice said back, reprimanding his companion - a look of fear crossed the face of the other man before he regained his composure.
"Who goes there!" The man called out over the walls prompting his companion to look in the direction. There stood a child who looked like a beggar standing on the edge of their camps boundaries, his clothes tattered and his walk staggered - beads of sweat fell from his face from the long walk he had endured.
The boy not bothering to look up at the two men continued to walk into the camps boundaries, disregarding the shouts of the two soldiers above.
Of course this boy was Yue, the walk from the City to the Camp had been a long an audacious one - the fort had been built right on the boundaries of the cities land which also happened to lay on the borders of a enemy Kingdom. The fort had been built to oversee the border for the last century, now that a strange boy was approaching the gates the two soldiers standing guard lost their composure unsure of what they should do in this situation yet before they could react Yue had pulled a token from his pocket, the light reflecting off it stunned the guards before they called for the gates to be opened.
At this, Yue collapsed in pain - his legs finally giving in to their fatigue, his cultivation was truly too low to endure the long march to the fort without mentally fatiguing himself, in a way this could be seen as a test from the City Lord Elizabeth for her newest recruit.
...
"He's the one?" A gruff voice came from a tent at the center of the camp, in the corner laid Yue slumped on the ground with his head up against the leg of a table.
"He carried the City Lords token Commander!" A soldier replied to the mans question almost immediately, "We carried him in after seeing him collapsed on the inner area of the boundary."
"Hmph, sending me a wastrel the thoughts that go through that womans' mind are beyond me!" The man exclaimed, he was the Commander of this Military Fort and directly reported to the City Lord.
"Sir, the reports state this this boy is responsible for the deaths of countless people in the outer city." Another soldier holding a few pieces of paper reported to the man, "This boy? He looks like he'd struggled to hold up even the smallest of Daggers let alone kill people!" The man exclaimed, for once in his life he was truly shocked.
"Another report states that he is responsible for the death of a City Gate guard however it's currently unconfirmed, the given description however does match the one of this young boy."
The Commander gave another incredulous look in the direction of the fainted boy, today was full of surprises and this boy had brought them all, glancing down at the boy he noticed his eyelid flicker for a second and a smile spread over the mans face.
"Get up lad or don't blame me for accidentally impaling your head on one of these spears." The man laughed looking at the boy who held fear in his eyes from the threat, "Kid knows how to listen in on unfamiliar surroundings, if it was anyone else they wouldn't have noticed your eye move like that." The man laughed heartily at his own wisdom.
The man scrutinized Yue harshly, "What's your name boy?"
"Yue." Yue could sense the power radiating from the man in front of him, he didn't need the System to know he was at least at the Spirit Realm level. His power wasn't much below that of the City Lord Elizabeth he had been in the presence of earlier - if anything his aura was sharper due to his years of experience in warfare.
"Unusual name.. Sounds like one of those fancy names used in the North, got any relatives there?" He fired another question at Yue as soon as he had answered.
"No clue." He answered honestly, he was still unsure if an expert of this caliber could detect lies easily yet but he wasn't willing to test the man in front of him - there was a baleful aura that seemed to scream that one wrong move and his head would be disconnected from his neck in a second.
"Interesting, interesting.." Jacob seemed to be deep in thought for a few minutes before returning to reality. "Anyway boy, my boys here tell me that you murdered quite a few people in the outer city. My question for you, is why?" He stared deep into Yue's eyes making him feel uncomfortable as suddenly all eyes in the room were on him.
"Because I could." He spoke the words coldly, returning the Commanders gaze with his own. He knew that it was a risky move but something gave him the feeling that this man respected honesty above all else, no matter ones background.
"Hahahah!" He suddenly stopped staring at Yue and turned to laugh at his men, "You hear that boys? Because he could!" An awkward chuckle spread across the tent before he turned back to look at Yue, "What would you say boy if I cut that head of yours off your body? No reason, just because I can that's all."
"Simple, I was too weak to stop you." Yue replied honestly again, there was something compelling him to tell the truth - he was dancing a fine line between life and death yet it seemed like he was digging himself a deeper hole.
"A fine answer lad, a fine one indeed." Jacob laughed again before turning back to his men, "Make sure this boy gets fed and put him in the harshest training regime. The Lord tells me you're blind boy - I hope that won't stop you from pushing yourself." He chuckled before walking out of the tent, in an instant the immense pressure on Yue's shoulders was lifted as if he had spent his entire life under the torrent of a waterfall to suddenly be liberated from the pressure.
"Seems you made a good impression on the Commander boy, lets hope it stays that way." The soldier who had reported his murders made his way out the tent, soon after he himself was escorted by the remaining guards to the mess hall which was located near the outer reaches of the fort near the northern gates.
He was given the clothes of a new recruit, leather armor and told to eat quickly. After he was finished eating and changing into his new attire he was escorted to the training grounds - rows upon rows of soldiers stood following the instructions of the instructors to the letter. Every now and then you could see a soldier recoil in pain from being hit due to not following the orders correctly or one collapse in pain before his comrades lifted him up and helped him carry on.
"You'll be in Training group A1, they're located over by the Eagle banner." The guard gave him his small piece of information before walking off back to his post.
"Tch, how am I meant to see an eagle banner through all these people?" Looking for a piece of high ground he scanned the area for the Eagle banner, it was just his luck that it was located at the furthest end of the training grounds near the walls - his body had barely recovered from it's earlier fatigue yet now it was being forced through more pain.
"A new recruit?" The man who appeared to be the instructor walked over to him, ordering the troops under his command to maintain their positions.
"Yes." Yue replied plainly to the man.
"Hmph, you'll do I guess. Join the rest of them!" The man was dissatisfied with Yue's attitude however there wasn't much he could do apart from increase the stress of the training.
Yue quickly joined the rest of the men, getting down into a plank position and holding it with the rest of them - a torturous twenty minutes went by before they were allowed a thirty second rest.
This was how Yue was forcefully inducted into the City Lords army and his torture like training begins..
