Alex drove and drove. She didn't know how, but she ended up at Sam's house. She sighed as she looked at her reflection in her overhead mirror. She looked like a mess. Her hair was chaotic, and her eyes were rimmed with red. She took a shaky breath and got out of the car and walked up to Sma's door.
She knocked and waited. Every second felt like an hour. Finally the door opened, and Sam's confused and worried face appeared.
Alex threw herself into his arms, sobbing. He gently patted her back.
"What's wrong?"
He picked her up and brought her in the house and closed the door quickly before bringing her to his couch.
Sam set her down gently, his brows creasing with worry.
"You wanna talk about it now?"
Alex shook her head, too choked up to respond verbally. Sam nodded and took her into his arms to cuddle with her.
After a while, she calmed down and finally looked up to see Sam's gentle gaze.
"Daniel's been cheating on me," she blurted out.
"With this other woman, or even multiple women behind my back. I've seen the tabloids and have asked him countless times before, but he always told me that they were just twisting things. And then, the day of my performance, I found him with another woman next door to me. I thought they were just some couple romping around. But it was him! We've been together for so long since highschool! I thought he would be the one! The one I would marry and have a family with! But it fell apart! What if it's me? What if I'm not go-"
"Stop Alex. This isn't your fault. You didn't do anything wrong. Calm down and don't blame yourself."
Alex nodded quickly and took a couple deep breaths. Her hands were shaky.
"Then I came home. And cried. And he comforted me. I almost didn't want to confront him. I didn't want to lose him. But I did. He didn't deny it. And then I left and came here. I told him I would be getting my stuff later, and that he better not be in the apartment when I can to get it or I would cut off all contact."
Sam's phone rang.
"Speak of the devil," he said as he declined the call.
His phone rang again.
Sam looked at Alex, "He's not going to stop. Are you fine with me picking up?"
Alex nodded.
"Hello?"
"Sam! Is Alex at your place?"
Alex's eyes widened, and she shook her head frantically, looking at Sam with pleading eyes.
"No. She is not. Goodbye." His face was stony and his eyes were cold.
"Please… Sam… I know she's there."
"She's not, and I would never tell you anyways. She already left. She told me what happened. How could you, Daniel?"
"Sam, I-"
"We aren't even friends, Daniel. Don't you remember how much you hate being my friend? You can't ask me for things like this. Especially after you lie. AGAIN. To one of the most important people in my life? I haven't even heard you apologize or try to smooth things over."
"I'm sorry Sam. I'm so sorry. For lying to you. For lying to Alex. For hurting both of you. I'm a complete asshole."
"I know. Goodbye Daniel." Sam hung up.
"He's right. He's a fucking asshole."
"You good?"
"I will be, with time."
"Good. What do you say to a movie night?"
"Yeah."
"What do you want to watch?"
"The whole Harry Potter series and the Fantastic Beasts series."
"Sure boss. I'll get some ice cream and pizza delivered. If Daniel comes, I'll tell to go away, and if he doesn't, I'll beat his ass."
"You sure you can?"
"Confident. Taekwondo and all that stuff. Besides, have you looked at these guns?" Sam fake flexed with his muscles relaxed.
Alex laughed. "Those have to be at least 2 feet all around."
Sam sniffed. "Actually 2 feet and 1.4 inches. I measured this morning."
Alex giggled.
