章節 6: Omiai (2)

The omiai progressed at a significant speed and without anything out of the norm. Therefore, Yukiko plastered a smile on her face as she waited for the end so that she could complete the Kotowari[1] and never step foot in this piss-ass home again.

"So it's agreed?" her father laughed and stood to clink the sake[2] cup of old Yamamoto. Glancing at old Yamamoto's face, Yukiko was surprised at the his large, wrinkly smile.

"I'm glad that we came to an agreement," young Yamamoto's voice was deep and enchanting as he glanced at Yukiko, his smile warm but his presence cold. His handsomeness shone brighter with his smile, the sharp contours of his face softening.

Yukiko glanced at each of the men, but despite the disconnect she had from the conversation, she was sure that she wouldn't like the "agreement" that they came to. But a glance at her father, and she knew that she had no choice but to agree.

"Great!" Old Yamamoto stood from his seat and laughed heartily. His sharp gaze turned to Yukiko, and he couldn't help but chuckle as they made eye contact. "I'm happy to have you for the year, yome[3]."

With a quick glance at her father, she smiled beautifully to the old man. All the while- even during her respectful 90 degree bow- she was planning on ways she could kill her old man.

Fuck living with her "husband's" family. And for a year? The old man had to be growing senile what with this new 'fun' he came up with.

"Good!" old Yamamoto clapped his son's back heartily. After which, he said his byes and left along with his son.

Keeping her smiling expression on until the men- and even the nakōdo[4]- left the room.

Still facing the door, she released the full force of her anger.

Nervous laughter came from Togai's mouth. "What's wrong, Yukki-san?"

"What's wrong? What's wrong!" She whipped around, her eyes blazing with a fury hotter than plasma. "You're what's fucking wrong! You fucktard!"

A hurt expression was on her father's face and he placed his right hand over his heart. "What do you mean?"

Taking deep, murderous steps towards her "clueless" father, Yukiko hit his stomach with a round-house kick.

"Fine," her father sighed. "But you should have told me this before, you know? How can we stop the deal when it's already been made?"

"Okaa-san won't let this happen."

Her father leaned over and laughed. Due to his bent posture, nobody saw the deep cunning hidden within his pupils.

"Okaa-san can't do anything," he finished laughing. "I have parental authority."

Gaping, Yukiko had had no idea. She thought that her parents managed to do what American divorcees did: joint custody.

Her father straightened up and looked at Yukiko in the eye. "Miyuki has custody over you, but I managed to get her hanko[5]."

With Yukiko's expression darkening with every word the devil before her said, she couldn't help but start to grasp at straws. "I don't want to marry."

"But you seemed completely enthralled, Yuki-chan."

'Enthralled', her ass!

She was trying to find faults with the dude. Too bad the only fault the man had was his six-pack.

"Either way," her father followed up. "It's too late for you to oppose. The documents have been signed."

Motherfucker.

With her eyebrows twitching, Yukiko took a deep breath to put a lid on her temper. "And I have to live with them for a year?"

"I still love Yuki-chan, you know."

"No, I don't know. No 'loving' Otou-san would sell his daughter to an enemy syndicate!" her voice raised a few decibels as she fisted her hands at her sides. She was so close to beating her father so that he only had an inch of his life left.

"But most daughters don't have a Kumicho as a father."

Fucking bastard.

She hated it when he had a point.

Sighing, Yukiko rubbed her eyes. "Fine. But right after the year is over, I'm dumping the man's ass."

"That's all I ask."

A flash of light swept past Yukiko's eyes as her suspicions towards her father's actions increased.

If he didn't care whether or not she married the guy, then why did he sign the agreement in the first place?

It couldn't be something as simple as ties in Tokyo.

The man was strong enough to do that on his own.

Looking back at her father, she watched as the sun's rays fell on his hair, a halo of gold surrounding his head. He looked like an angel. Too bad he had a devil's tail.

Holding her hips, Yukiko kicked off her geta and heaved a huge sigh. "Where do I live, then?"

"I knew Yukiko wouldn't let me down."

"You should fucking shut up."

Lifting his hands up in a gesture of surrender, her father beamed. "You'll live with them."

Narrowing her eyes, her icy blues stared straight at her father's black orbs.

"Where?"

Her father walked towards the window, his footsteps sure and powerful as he opened the glass. He waited for Yukiko to follow before he leaned in, pointing towards a good-sized family home in the middle of the estate.

"That's your house."

He must have been shitting her.

That piece of shit had been planning this for a lot longer than a month, hadn't he?

There was no way that house could have been reconstructed in anything less than three months even with multiple contractors.

Just what was he planning?

This wasn't anything like the other 'fun' activities he had done before.

She watched the house, planning on how she was to tell her mother about her new living quarters for the next year.

And then she looked at her father grinning like a chesire cat.

"You'll be the one to tell her."

His smile fell faster than the london bridge[6].

Inwardly, she laughed up a storm.

The door opened at that moment and the young lady from before stood at the doorway. Her yellow kimono had been changed for a darker colored one, her geta peeking out from under the hem.

"I've come to bring you to your room, Hirayama-san and Yukiko-san."

Sharing looks, the father and daughter pair nodded at each other. Then, Togai followed the young lady while Yukiko followed a few steps behind him.
