Dawn seemed a distant away. The majority of the camp had a restless sleep as they still were feeling the pain of losing someone dear to them. The morale of the soldiers as well as the commanders was rather low.
As the sun slowly was rising, the gloominess was felt on the whole area. Tiredness was noticeable on the faces of the soldiers, as they had barely slept. But, they all stood up reluctantly for a new day to come and to fight.
Luckily they had captured one of the walls into the compound. Because of this, the battle would be done on an open field. This would be more advantageous for the attacker, as they did not have to deal with assaulting the walls.
Having an early breakfast, James walked over to the command tent. The majority of the commanders were already gathered over there. Their faces, still gloomy from the day before. "Who is missing?" Going directly into the subject, James asked with a reluctant voice.
He knew that at this point, he was not really favored as the commander. Because of him, in the first day they lost countless men. Moreover, because of his incompetence, their camp got attacked. Because of this, Francis had to compromise his mistakes, which in the end he paid with his life.
Distancing himself emotionally, James walked towards the far side of the table and looked at the map that was in front of him. There was a bad drawing of the map where the manor was located, with its compound. The current location where they were staying at the moment was not far removed from the door. This made marching and reinforcing the door easier.
"Are there any reports from the scouts?" Edward was the one to start off the discussions and battle plans.
"No sir. The last scouts reported that nothing had happened during the night. If nothing changed, the first following scout would be coming in an hour or so." a guard directly reported.
"Good. Keep a close eye on the other walls. As we have pulled most of our troops to this front, there is a gap that occurred. Make sure that we know exactly what is going on over there." Edward ordered.
With that done, discussion slowly started to take place. The battle plan was being formed gradually. The safest way was to use the archers to soften up the enemy's line. Depending on the reaction of them, they would either advance slowly or continue their strategy. They just had to defend the doorway for the time being.
They wanted to make full use of every advantage that they had. Therefore, maximizing the usage of the archers was the best method of approach.
"If everyone is clear with their roles, we should slowly start to…" Before Edward was able to finish his sentence, a hurried soldier entered the tent.
"Sir! Sorry for my intrusion! Something important has happened." The soldier tried to regain his breath and continued quickly. "Several riders have left compound from the southern and western doors. The scouts sent men to follow them to discover what was going on..." Telling until this point, the guard was scared to continue his words. The rest of the story was not positive at all.
"Well. Tell, what did they discover?"
"Well sir… the Herewealth family… they… they managed to receive reinforcements. The soldiers were walking with flags of a green swallow on it."
"Green swallow? This is bad. They are part of the Mockingbird Mercenaries. If the Herewealth has managed to pull them in, we have to finish up this battle before they arrive." Edward spoke in a hated voice. Looking back at the soldier, he asked, "How long will it take them to arrive?"
The soldier was unsure. With an unsure tone he answered, "According to the scouts, they expect that by dusk, the first group will be arrived at the compound."
Taking in the report, Edward looked a bit grim. "This is not good. This means that we cannot linger around too much. We have to change our tactics significantly." With that, he directly focused back on the maps and focus again on making a proper strategy which they could use.
"Christopher. How did you men managed to breach the Eastern wall?" he directly started with asking several questions around.
The idea now was to slowly enter the compound form the north. However, to put pressure, they will send a detachment of the army to the eastern and western gates. Moreover, the eastern gate will try to push in again, as they did the day before. With that they would be able to flank the enemy lines.
Having a concept of the plans. They were ready and started slowly to prepare to head off towards the fields.
