"Father! Have you heard? James is gathering an army in Silver City." Loraine rushed into the study of her father.
Because of the power that Thomas holds, he was able to gain some time for James. He convinced the Herewealth family that the marriage that his daughter should have, had to rival that of the royalty. Because of this, the marriage between Edgar and Loraine was a bit delayed.
"I heard." Thomas said. Looking at the report in his hand he continued, "Apparently James arrived with around 90 soldiers at Silver City, where he got reinforce another 100. Moreover, the last report indicated that he is speaking with the Owens and Anderson families in order to get reinforced."
Just as he finished the sentence someone knocked at the door. "Sir, I have updates from our men in the Silver City about the young knight." A guard said as he entered the room with a bow. Placing the report on the table, he went back outside of the room.
"What does it say father? How is James doing?" Loraine was rather excited to hear the news about the updates.
Thomas read the report, and a rare smile formed up on his face. "This is definitely good news. Apparently James was able to enlist the support of the Owens family. Scouts say that around 120 men has joined him, this makes James' power over 300 men. That is definitely a force to reckon with. I wonder how he will hide this force though."
Hearing the news, Loraine got excited. James might be able to beat the Herewealth family with this army. If that is the case, she would be free to return to the grasps of James, instead of being imprisoned at her house. The imprisonment was actually better that being subject to the Herewealth family.
Another guard knocked the door and entered with a new report. Reading the new report, the previous smile on the face of Thomas dropped as the letter fell from his hand.
"Father? What happened? You don't look so good." The way her father acted was not looking good. Something bad had happened.
"The head of the Anderson family has been killed by an assassin. Apparently he had agreed to help James with his efforts, however the murder changed everything. Now the whole campaign might be halted." Thomas' voice started to fade as he spoke. Rage building in him, Thomas slammed his hand on the table as he spoke up again, "I have fought alongside Neal a few times. He does not deserve to die in such a manner. There is no honor in this."
Being silent for a moment, Thomas continued, "I should head towards Silver City. He still was a brother in arm, so it would be better to go to his funeral." Looking over to Loraine he added another sentence, "Maybe I will meet up with James and ask how everything is progressing. Do you have any message for him?"
…
"Father! Father! Is it true that the scum from the Witterton family is preparing an army to attack us?" Edgar asked his father with a worried face. He still remembered how he got overpowered by James and his friends during their patrol on Hermes.
Jake Herewealth looked over at Edgar with cold eyes. He slowly nodded as he tossed the letter in his hand into the fireplace. "I have no idea how he did this, but our latest reports say that he currently has amassed a force of 190 soldiers. Apparently he is gathering supporters in the Silver City. I should had had crushed those bastard families in the Silver City while I had the chance. I am sure that they will band together and attack us in due time." There was a clear anger in his eyes as he spoke these words. Looking back to Edgar his continued with an angry voice, "Why had you had to choose that bitch of the Bloom family? Was there no other slut that you could have taken?"
Edgar was scared to reply. No matter what, it would anger his father even more. So the best option for him at the moment was to stay silent. Looking at the ground, he heard a knock at the door.
"Sir. I brought news from the Silver City. I have heard that it is good news." A guard said with a monotone voice. He dared not to show emotions in front of the lord, as it might have consequences.
"Bring it." Jake ordered to the guard. Taking the report, he eyes were scanning the lines. The start of the story was infuriating, as he started to ripple and crush the report. However has his lines passed towards the end, there was a rare smile on his face.
Scared that his father might have lost it, Edgar asked carefully, "What happened father?"
Not even looking at Edgar, Jake poured himself a drink and replied, "Apparently that James has over 300 men now." He took a sip of his rink and continued, "However the old bastard of the Anderson family got himself killed by an assassin. This is great news. With that, we can move in to the mines that they posses in the Silver City, while they mourn their dead. This is definitely worth celebration."
