After everyone was seated, Thomas looked over at James and started to speak, "I understand the reason why you did this. And I do not blame you fully. I just had wished that I was aware of this, rather than discovering it later on." A moment of silence passed before he continued. "I owe you the story of why we are in this mess to begin with.
Thomas told them the story about how Loraine's brother impregnated the daughter of the Herewealth family. After which they demanded that the Bloom family would compensate for that disgrace and forced an engagement on Loraine and the son of the Herewealth family, Edgar.
While Thomas was telling the story, Loraine had a hateful fire burning in her eyes. However the moment that James heard the name Edgar, he stood up in anger. He would not let Loraine marry someone else. Especially not Edgar. He would rather die than see something like that happen.
Noticing this reaction, Thomas could do nothing about it but drop down his head. "I am sorry kid, but I am forced to abide to this, as I cannot anger the Herewealth family." He then looked into the eyes of James and spoke up, "However, there is a chance to fix this problem. If you are able to defeat the Herewealth family and reduce their influence, you might be able to get Loraine out of their claws. However for this you need sufficient power and backing."
Thinking for a moment, James might know people who would help him in that situation. If he could gather enough support, he might crush the influence of the Herewealth enough whereby they would not be able to resist. However in that time, he would be a renegade knight as he is challenging and fighting with a recognized noble family. James understood the risks, but at this point he had no choice.
Thomas saw the determination in James' eyes and continued, "As for now, I am sorry. I cannot stop the manhunt that the Herewealth family current has on you two. The only thing I can do is win you some time and stay neutral in your battle. That is the only thing in my powers." Having said those words, Thomas stood up and was about to leave.
"Father!" Loraine called out as she made her way to him. "Thank you, and sorry for not telling you that I left." Standing in front of her father, she looked to her belly as she started to rub it. "You will soon be a grandfather."
Thomas was shocked at the news he heard it, as he grasped about the news. However he could not hide his happiness as he hugged Loraine.
"Wait? Does that mean that I will become a father?" James asked equally shocked.
"Yes, you will." Loraine replied.
However, James was actually met with the angered eyes of Thomas, as James was the one that impregnated his daughter without his consent. He was not even sure that the two of them were actually married or not.
Noticing the atmosphere, Loraine spoke up, "Don't worry father. We are officially married, under the guidance of the Church. You can ask Alice if you want, she was one of our witnesses."
Hearing those words, Thomas lost his anger, which was taken over by sadness. He had missed the marriage of his daughter. He actually missed a lot of things in these last few months, which he felt that he was forgotten.
At that moment he replied, "This is actually good. In case that the Herewealth family does get Loraine, you will have a valid reason to attack them. Even the crown cannot intervene when it becomes clear that you are married to Loraine. We can even slander the Herewealth family, by saying that they kidnapped Loraine and forced her into their submission. If you can get both the witness and the priest to your side, we can oblige the Herewealth family to release Loraine and lose significant power with the nobles for acting outside conduct." Taking a breather he continued, "It is now all up to you, to play your cards right. I will try to help you from the shadows, as I also want to see my daughter free from their grab. However do not expect much."
Having said those words, Thomas turned around and waited for Loraine's actions. Understanding the situation, Loraine turned to James and hugged him tightly. "Farewell love. I trust in you and my father to get me back as soon as possible." With those words, the two kissed, before Loraine left James' grab and turned around with a saddened face.
She followed Thomas outside, as there were not many options left for them.
