章節 72: Bad News
Looking at Loraine, James' heart kept skipping a beat. No matter how many times he would look at her, he would fall in love time and time again. As Loraine made her way to the room, she was greeted by various ladies from other families.
What took James by surprise was the expression Loraine had. This was one that he had not witnessed before. It looked lifeless. As if all her energy was drained away. Concerned by this, James broke off from his group before making his way to where Loraine was. Passing by one of the maids who were serving drinks, James picked up two glasses of wine.
Making his way to Loraine, James saw that Loraine noticed him approaching. As Loraine looked at him, she tried to form up a smile. However this smile was forced and felt as if something was being hidden. Standing in front of Loraine, James passed over the wine he had picked up and signed Loraine to follow him to a more quite place.
Walking over to a balcony outside of the banquette hall, James could not hold his curiosity anymore. Walking over to Loraine, James held the face of Loraine and looked in her eyes. "What happened dear? Why are you so lifeless? This doesn't suit you." James said with a gentle yet worried voice.
Initially trying to avoid the gaze of James, Loraine was silent. Not sure how she could respond to what James had said. Taking a sip of her wine, Loraine thought for a while before she opened her mouth. Initially she was not able to form any words, but then she finally spoke up, "Welcome back dear. I have missed you." Saying that, Loraine finally showed an earnest smile.
Knowing that she avoided his question, James wanted to ask again. Yet noticing her difficult situation, James trusted that Loraine would eventually tell what was bugging her.
Before James even could finish his thought, Loraine spoke up again, "Dear, I have something to say to you. Because of a stupid act my younger brother did, I…" Words got stuck on her mouth. Trying to force the sentence she tried to continue. However her expression now showed sorrow and sadness, "I will be forced to marry into the Herewealth family."
Hearing these words, James' expression froze. He did not know how to react to this. Before noticing he already spoke a sentence, "But… your family promised that if I got back from defending The Holy City of Hermes, that they would not block us from marrying?"
"I know dear… but that damned brother of mine…" Saying those words, Loraine's expression got darker as her anger started to build up ones more. Not being able to say something for a moment, she looked into James' eyes as she said, "The one I love is you. And this will never change!"
Hearing these words, James broken heart eased up a little bit. Yet it was still broken due to the shock he was in. Thinking for a while, James came up with a crazy and stupid idea, "Let's run away!"
"Excuse me? What do you mean?" Taken aback of what James said, Loraine asked confused.
Determinations building up in James, he repeated what he said, "Let's run away! Together! I just received a huge reward from my service. With that we can head to the south? What do you think?"
Thinking about it, Loraine asked unsure, yet agreeing, "When?"
With a determined voice James said, "Why not tonight?"
