"Welcome Prince Zeus"
Eva bowed down once again to greet the boy standing a little behind his parents with a shy look on his face who looked nearly the same age as of Eva.
The boy was left off guard by him being addressed suddenly and was quickly jolted back from the world of his daydreams.
He bowed at the princess too and then stood up, not daring to lift his head, fearing that his flushed cheeks would come to the vision of the others.
"Audric, can you see how much our Eva has grown up? Can you believe, the little girl who used to throw her arms around me and brought her new dolls to the doorstep to show them to us without letting us enter before we see all of them is actually bowing down to greet us"
"Christina... of course she has grown up. Look at her, she is almost the age of marrying"
The little girl lowered her head and blushed, embarrassed.
"Oh Christina, welcome dear. How are you and His Highness doing?"
Lady Green, the queen of Bridgecoast and the mother of Eva, greeted her childhood friend Diana.
"How are the His Highness of Wellden and Lady Poole doing?", Eva's father, Lord David Green's aristocratic voice echoed through the room as he greeted the royal couple.
Then they entered the castle and their children followed behind, sneaking glances at each other and blushing.
"Why don't we let the children play on their own while we busy ourselves?", suggested Lady Poole and she gestured the children to leave.
"So how is business at Wellden lately?"
"Christina, I have especially called the royal jeweller to get some jewelleries for the wedding. After all not much time is left and they don't have good designs everyday".
"Come, I'll walk you to the garden".
David left with Audric for his study, Diana led Christina to her bedroom and Eva walked with Zeus, all silent, towards the garden.
SPLASH!
"Ahhh, ahh.. ahhhh"
Zeus's wails were heard when ice cold water was poured on him. He pulled on his shackles, as he shuddered in pain which cut his wrists with new bruises, and reopened the older ones.
"What's your last wish?"
A cold voice reverberated throughout the dungeon, which would generally send chills through someone's spine, but Zeus remained unfazed.
He let out a soft chuckle and said, "If I wished I don't want to die, I want my kingdom back and I want to live a peaceful life with my Eva, you obviously won't fullfill them right? So what's the point in asking when you can't give what I actually want?", his voice was full of contempt.
"How dare you still say 'your Eva'. You have hurt Eva so much and still you demand her possession. Your audacity really is commendable.", scoffed the King of Crystalden, Martin Holman.
"Your love for Eva is really weird", said Zeus.
"Who are you to say that, the person who has tortured Eva to the point that she wanted to kill herself. At least I am far better than you, still personally coming to you to ask for your last wish. Look, I don't have time to waste on you, just name it, and I'll leave."
"I want to see Eva, for one last time. I won't say anything to her, she wouldn't even know that I came to see her. Just once, please."
A layer of iciness covered Martin's eyes as he heard those words.
"Fine, but then you die."
-
The next morning Zeus was led to the isolated place where Martin had held Eva captive. It was a small wooden house near a river where the only thing which stood other than the house was a tree.
Zeus was made to stand behind the tree so that he could see Eva when she comes out of the house to have her bath.
Soon the door opened and out came a lady in her early thirties, draped in a robe as the soldiers shifted away to the sides to give her way. She was helped by a maid who led her to the river.
Seeing Eva after who knows how long, Zeus couldn't keep calm and dropped on his knees.
This made a loud thud sound and Eva immediately looked in his direction.
On seeing Zeus in a horrible condition but alive, Eva's eyes got moist.
Zeus couldn't move as he was all shackled but stared at Eva without batting an eye as if he was fulfilling his quota of her face.
Martin who stood nearby, couldn't tolerate the exhibition of love between them and blurted out, "Yeah yeah, fullfill the quota of your stares because this is the last day you are seeing him, after that, you will be all mine."
Eva widened her eyes as disbelief clouded her.
But nothing came out of her mouth as she continued to stare at Zeus, droplets of tears pouring endlessly from her eyes.
The atmosphere gradually grew more tense and just when it was about to explode, Eva's voice was heard.
"If I can't be his, I won't be anybody's. Goodbye Zeus, I will wait for us to reunite in the next life. Don't forget we are bound to each other for seven lives. We have..a lot of time.."
With this she smiled sadly.
Then she suddenly turned around and ran back towards the wooden house and shut the door.
Then in a blink of an eye, the whole building was blazing in fire.
"EVAAAAA!!!!"
