A sharp pain slowly crept from her forehead as she stumbled hard upon someone. But she didn't immediately feel it because she felt her body light and she knew, the next moment, she is going to crash to the ground.
At that moment, she imagined the pain she would feel from the fall as she was quite tall, taller than most of the girls of her previous school and even taller than a few boys.
She closed her eyes tightly as she anticipated the fall, but ...it never came!
How is that possible? She had clearly stumbled on someone and was about to fall right after, but she was still standing on her feet.
Stunned, she slowly opened her eyes.
She found herself placed on enormous large hands which were draped around her body, the body which was closely held near a firm yet not muscular chest and a pair of eyes gazed at her which were deep whirlpools of emotions yet completely emotionless.
She could just catch a glimpse of his face, yet she could actually make out the whole of his face- narrow but elongated eyes, thick yet naturally shaped eyebrows, long lashes a sharp nose bridge, a conical jawline and raised cheekbones. His lips are thin and supple, complexion wheatish, coffee brown hair covering his large forehead. His skin is glowing- he is so beautiful. He looked like he was around the same age as of hers, sixteen or seventeen.
She could so easily make up that face that it felt that the face was weirdly familiar, as if she had seen that face for innumerable times and that the face was ingrained deep in her mind.
Suddenly the boy moved to let her stand on her feet, and she felt a stinging pain in her ankle which snapped her back to the reality.
She let out an"Ahh" and reflexively leaned on the boy once again.
The boy stiffened for what felt like a nanosecond, turned around, got her lean on a nearby wall and left, leaving Lili in a daze.
-
"Hey, are you okay?"
Lili, who was staring at the direction in which the boy had disappeared was jolted back to the reality by a girl's tender voice. That is when she felt the pain from her forehead and her sprained ankle.
She gently turned her head, still a bit shaken by the sudden happening of various events, to find a gentle and worried face with a soft smile, looking at her.
"I'm fine, thank you"
"Are you in a lot of pain?"
"No no, it's..I'm really fine.. it's just that, I think I have sprained my ankle"
"Oh", the worry on her little face evidently increased.
"Let me take you to the sick room, if I can find it at all"
Oh no, I really can't go to the sick room, I have classes.
Lili panicked and said, "No no.. that is really not required, I am really fine. By the way, you said you would take me to the sick room if you knew, so you are new in here too?"
Lili preferred to change the subject as following in that path could prove a bit awkward.
"Oh yeah, actually I am new in this city itself, I have come from Citadel"
"Oh I see, so what's your name?", asked Lili who was strangely enough, quite comfortable with this complete stranger.
"I am Genea..and yours?"
"Oh what a coincidence! In the pre- primary, I had a friend, actually she was my only friend and thus my best friend whose name was Genea too, she was Genea Jones and you are?"
"Lili?"
What?!
"You are Lili right? Lili Ray.. the ever solitary, ever silent, ever assertive yet the most lovely girl in the class back in the pre- primary, aren't you?"
The girl was excited and brimming with anticipation whereas Lili was dumbstruck.
Wait, what?!
This girl, standing in front of me is... really Genea?
That means the only friend I ever had after ma, whom I thought I had lost, is ...here.
Lili still stood dazed for a long time after which she suddenly nodded frantically in affirmation and threw herself on her. Genea actively reciprocated, and they hugged each other tightly never once trying to pull away.
After a long time, finally the girls let go of each other and held each other at an arm's length.
"Which stream are you?", the girls asked the same question at the same time together. They let out a soft giggle after that.
"I am in the Science", said Lili.
"Seems we have to be in different classes as I have taken Arts" , replied Genea while sulking.
"No issues, at least we would have someone to chat with during the recess and that's actually excellent for someone ever lonely like me!", added Lili.
Genea nodded in affirmation and smiled.
Then suddenly both of them widened their eyes.
