"You got a promotion? That's awesome!" Fan Lanying was truly happy for her brother who got promoted so quickly after joining Jun Min's army. Not only did he get promoted, he even got a few days off from the army because of his accomplishment.
Fan Ying nodded. Yabei, his superior, may be harsh and the training was arduous, but the rewards were plenty and Jun Min never put on any airs before them. Other than when he's giving orders during the war, Jun Min is truly an approachable young man.
"I feel lucky to get transferred out from that army," Fan Ying took a few more slices of meat to eat. He smiled towards his sister.
Fan Lanying nodded heavily. "When I get the chance, I want to become a general like Jun Min and Soujin. They're my idols."
"Sure, I support you," Fan Ying laughed. "What have you been doing during this time? I heard that you didn't continue on in the academy anymore?"
"Nope, I'm the guard for Princess Hui," Fan Lanying answered proudly.
"You need to be careful, there might be people wanting to hurt her," Fan Ying said.
"Yes."
The brother and sister were talking happily with each other. Their mother was listening from the side with relief. She's glad that things turned out good for her children.
…
Mountain Kingdom
Jun Qing was supposedly working to move the Jun family over to the Mountain Kingdom area. They also brought the soldier's family over to the land here. Aside from that, Jun Qing was building a wall to separate the Jun family territory from the Ming Kingdom.
"Are you done with your work?" Kuina asked from the side lazily. She would often sneak here to avoid the work as an empress because she could not use her cave anymore after General Hen knew about it. If she hides there, they will surely find her and drag her back.
Jun Qing stared at the princess with a helpless expression. He was partially forced to accept her hiding in this place. Although the princess was really smart and has countless brilliant ideas, she didn't want to be confined inside the palace. Thus, she became a naughty princess who would ditch her work to others and hide here.
"Today's part is almost finished. When will they hold your ceremony?" Jun Qing asked back.
"After I get married. Those annoying officials are always pestering me with countless papers or whatever you call those, and ask me to pick one to be my husband," Kuina was terribly annoyed and did not bother looking at them before throwing them all out.
Jun Qing can imagine it. This little princess was truly stubborn and was not one to obey other's words easily. Even when she's supposed to govern the court, she's here hiding and talking with him. The problem is, she is smart and knows how to evade things she doesn't want to do.
"Where do you want to go today?"
"The waterfall."
Jun Qing's face darkened slightly. That place was outside the capital and bringing this little princess around the capital has taken a lot of his energy. And now she wants to go outside? How does she think she can escape the guards?
Seeing Jun Qing's expression, Kuina laughed. "I know a secret passage."
With that, Jun Qing relented. Both of them sneaked outside during the afternoon and Kuina guided them through the secret passage towards the waterfall. It was located not far from the capital and Kuina could easily reach that place with Jun Qing following behind her.
"Look, it's there!" Kuina pointed happily.
Jun Qing was not really familiar with this place. He had heard the sound of the waterfall, but he would never think that this place would be really beautiful. The light from the sun created a rainbow on the waterfall, causing an extraordinary view.
"This place is good. You're really amazing," Jun Qing smiled.
"Thank you," Kuina stared at the waterfall. "I often come here with my father and brother when I was small. We would play around and chase each other here with my father watching us. But, for a few years, I only came here alone."
Jun Qing nodded. The two of them have died from the battle this kingdom had experienced and the innocent princess was dragged inside. It was such a shame that the princess had to be left alone, but in this era where war was common, there were many families like hers. She was considered lucky to be still alive and with people supporting her.
"You're not alone today."
"Yeah," Kuina nodded.
"Why did you bring me here?"
"It's dangerous to come here during this kind of times but with you protecting me, I should be alright," Kuina grinned.
Jun Qing did not want to listen to Kuina's answer anymore. In the princess's eyes, it seems like he is only a guard who is helping her. He didn't really mind though, interacting with this princess had been fun and he hoped to stay here longer.
He detected a presence behind them. "Princess, stay behind me."
Kuina moved behind Jun Qing as a few black-clothed people appeared. Jun Qing stared at them before attacking those people. In a matter of seconds, everything had ended.
"You should have closed your eyes," Jun Qing frowned upon seeing the princess still standing stiffly.
"I have seen a battle before," Kuina answered as she calmed herself down. She was not really used to seeing blood, but the scene from when she had followed after Jun Min still remained. "Thank you."
"Let's return. This place is getting darker as time goes by. There might be more people attacking you."
"Okay, I will lead the way."
"Be careful."

"Princess, I would appreciate it if you didn't bother General Jun Qing again," General Hen looked at the princess helplessly. After hearing some ideas, she just pointed out a few things before dumping everything to the other officials who can do the job better. In any case, she knows that she can't handle the matter as well as them, so why should she bother?
Kuina stuck out her tongue. "He didn't mind it."
"But…"
Before he can say anything, the princess had slipped out again. General Hen face palmed in defeat. If only the princess was a prince, he didn't mind giving him a few sticks as a way to discipline him. The problem is, their leader is a girl…
"You should just let her have some fun," General Tou laughed behind him.
"But general… I need to find a good match for her."
"Isn't there another good candidate?"
General Hen's face darkened. "Please don't say that the next leader of Mountain Kingdom would be people who don't know politics…"
"Who knows?" General Tou laughed out loud as General Hen can only look on in helplessness. Inside his heart, he pitied the other officials who had to work until night just because the princess dumped all the work to them.
"General Jun Qing, what are you doing?"
Jun Qing had just wanted to go towards the field to have some training. He was cleaning up his documents when Kuina barged in.
"I want to go to the field."
"Let me go with you."
"But…"
Jun Qing wanted to go there to practice and not to accompany the princess. Unfortunately, upon looking at her expression, he could not bring himself to say no. In the end, the princess tagged along with him happily.
The princess changed her dress into training clothes and joined Jun Qing's soldiers in practice. But after an hour, she already could not follow them. She watched them train from the side as General Hen came to the field to beg the princess to finish her work.
"Princess, you still have mountains of papers to look at. Please return," General Hen said in a pleading tone.
Kuina pursed her lips. She did not want to go there and stay inside the boring room. It was better to stay here and watch the soldiers practice. At least, here she still has some entertainment rather than looking at those papers. She's not an official and doesn't have any plans to become one.
"Give them to the others. I never had any plans to join the court."
Despite the fact that she loved to nag her father about some matters, she never joined in the court meeting even once. All this time, she would just voice out her opinion and let the officials handle it themselves. Before, they often ignored her, but now, they all listened to her carefully.
Kuina was sick with those officials' attitudes. Although they are all loyal to her, she still found them annoying to look at. It's better if she stays here and look at the soldiers training rather than at them.
"Princess…"
"Just tell me the important matters. Do I look like someone who's used to those things?" Kuina retorted. She did not want to go there no matter what they said. It's not like she even know that many things and she did not want to get fawned upon day and night.
General Hen can only raise his hand in defeat. He stayed beside Kuina as the girl's eyes kept on following the soldiers. After another couple of minutes, a man came towards them. He smiled wryly upon seeing General Hen's face.
"Good day, General Hen."
"General Jun Qing."
"Princess, I think you need to finish looking at your papers. Your people still need you," Jun Qing said calmly.
Kuina pursed her lips. It's true that her people still need a leader, but she doesn't want to get confined inside a room just to look through things she doesn't even understand. They are truly boring.
"If you want me to look at it, then accompany me, General Jun Qing."
Jun Qing raised his eyebrows. Those documents are a secret of the Mountain Kingdom. Letting him see it is the same as spreading the secrets of the Mountain Kingdom to an outsider. If words were to get out, what would others think of this princess?
"I'm only an outsider…"
"Its fine, you won't tell anyone," Kuina cut his words.
Jun Qing laughed dryly. "You really trust me that much?"
"Why not?" Kuina smiled. "You're a good person."
After being persuaded by General Hen, Jun Qing relented and accompanied the princess to her workroom. Inside, he finally understood why Kuina did not want to do it. The number of papers here… even he cannot finish them all in three days.
Kuina took a look at a piece paper and after a few seconds. "Rejected."
"Rejected."
"Rejected."
This kept on continuing for an hour. Only a few of them were not rejected with most of them being thrown to the side. The officials all had their faces blue from holding themselves back. The act of this princess is even more annoying compared with her running away.
"It's time to eat. I finished them all," Kuina said as she strolled outside. Despite her not acting gracefully, she still walked really elegantly. Years of practice in the palace didn't make her change her habit and she was still a refined lady.
The papers were all too much and many of the matters are those she never touched upon, so she simply put them away. She only looked towards those she had some clear image of and the number of those matters are simply too little. She doesn't want to drag her country down with her handling matter she didn't know, so she dumped them to the officials.
The officials who are left behind: Princess…. Please come back!
No matter what, the papers still need to go through their ruler's permission. One way or another, they would need to force Kuina to look through them and give her opinion. If she didn't know… they had to teach her… the path of becoming an official sure is hard.
Jun Qing followed her and they arrived at the dining room. He was forced by the princess to eat with her, but the palace food is indeed good. This was one of the best dinners Jun Qing ever had. If he were to know that Jun Hua had been eating good meals every week in the capital, he would surely ask her to give him some. The food in the military is limited and they never had many good cuisines.
"You seem happy, is it that good?" Kuina asked with a grin on her face.
"As a soldier, I rarely eat this good. Thank you," Jun Qing replied honestly.
"You should come here often. I will let them prepare good food for you," Kuina said as she stood up and walked to the balcony.
Jun Qing followed after her.
Kuina smiled towards him. "Thank you for accompanying me all this time."
"It's nothing. You're a unique princess."
