Closing the door with a smile, Qiu Yue turned around and leaned against it. Her smile dropped into a frown as she sighed. Honestly couldn't people just leave her be? She'd gotten a call from the Long family the moment the shoot out had been over. Obviously, she'd pressed decline without hesitation. But. She wanted to get it over with. There was no point in dragging it on, and while Qiao Feng was recovering and his parents were here, she wanted to go get whatever they wanted over with.
If it felt like she was being too harsh it was because it wasn't Long Bai Yi contacting her, it was the Long family's elders. Till now she hadn't had any contact with them, so for them to suddenly reach out, it was suspicious.
She had already told the Feng couple she would drive home and get clothes and other things for herself and Qiao Feng. Qiao Feng's mother had sniffed dismissively at her, and she ignored it.
Changing into something not bloody, not dusty, Qiu Yue didn't even get time to sit before she had to drive to the shooting range. Yes, the Lang family wanted to meet in a shooting range. What was that if not suspicious??
She felt like she kind of knew what this was about. In the original story, Qiu Yue's brother hadn't been able to help her when she was in trouble. Seeing that brother who was a complete sis con, there was no way he wouldn't have come running unless someone had gotten in his way. The only possible people capable of stopping him at that point would have to do with family, specifically their mother.
Qiu Yue had a theory. She felt like her mother had originally been someone from the Lang family or at least related to them. But they'd never reached out to her, even till her death, so that meant they probably weren't that affectionate. They never reached out to Qiu Yue either, only having tried to grab brother. Now, she'd ended up shooting someone so they probably felt she was worthy of talking to. Which really... annoyed her.
Worthy of talking to them?! They weren't worthy of talking to her! She'd even heard that although Bai Yi was hardworking and had exceptional abilities, her family had purposefully made her brother heir. Humph. They could see but were blind. What could she even say to that? She did not have a positive impression of them.
She switched gears as she slowly pulled into the parking lot. Stepping out, she stalked over to the so-called VIP section. She could see a few old men waiting for her. Honestly, what an unappealing welcome. One of them gave her a fake welcoming smile, his eyes seemed to be calculating her worth. Deciding to play along, for now, Qiu Yue smiled bashfully.
The one smiling held out his hand to shake hers, and she gave him a firm handshake.
"Please join me, Miss Yue!" He beckoned towards the rifles placed on one side. She cocked her head to the side.
"I'm not particularly fond of shooting as a sport." That sentence contained many hints, and most importantly she wanted to look like she had no idea why theyd called her here.
"Haha!" He bellowed out, "just entertain this old man, think of me as your grandfather please!"
Clicking her tongue in distaste inwardly, she smiled at him and nodded. Picking up a rifle she waited for him to shoot first. He fired three shots in succession into the distance and confident that he'd hit with all of them, he didn't even turn to see where they had landed. Instead with great brevity, he laid the rifle down and turned to her.
Qiu Yue pretended to miss his shift of attention, and was already positioning the rifle. Finally satisfied with her aim, she gritted her teeth as the recoil vibrated through her bones as she fired off 3 shots much faster than he had.
They all hit the bullseye.
There was a moment of silence, and then the other men around cheered. Putting down the rifle, Qiu Yue concealed the disgust in her eyes, looking modest. She shifted her attention to the old man once again.
"I'm Lang Li Wei. Bai Yi's grandfather. When she first met you, she told me all about how kind you were to her. She also mentioned that you looked familiar to her, like a family member."
His eyes seemed to grow warmer as he looked at the perfectly massacred sheet.
"Actually, I had a daughter who once ran away from home. I always wanted to reach out and talk to her - but by the time I found her, my dear child had left this world. I never knew she had left children behind."
"My dear, my youngest daughter was your mother. It is my greatest regret that I have only just confirmed that I have two young grandchildren I had never known about. As I grow older, all that's left to me is family. I want to welcome you to your rightful family."
Saying so, a single teardrop fell sorrowfully down his cheek. Qiu Yue gave him a look of shock.
"B-but how do you know?"
Wiping away the stray tear, he sighed. "I asked for someone to collect hair from both you and your brother and submitted it for testing. I received that result only now, and called for you as soon as I could."
Her mother had been with someone before she had married the heavenly king that was Qiu Yue's father. Xiang Yu Se, her brother, was her half brother. While they shared the same mother, they did not share the same father. Presumably, her mother had left the Lang family because of who Xiang Yu Se's father was. Her mother had married one of the most popular men in the country, albeit she'd died very soon. What was this nonsense about not finding her? There was also the question of what had happened to Xiang Yu Se's father. Qiu Yue had a feeling he was dead - but how?
This man, Lang Li Wei actually had the audacity to say he'd found their mother but had never known about the two children. Was that even possible? When Qiu Yue was born, not less than a hundred articles must have been written about her. You would have to be blind, deaf, and entirely ignorant to not know at that point.
Let alone the fact that both the brother and sister were now very popular in the entertainment industry. Well, she was pretty sure they wanted Xiang Yu Se in their family. But this sudden familial love for Qiu Yue probably only arose after she'd shown her ruthless side. In the original story, feeling that she wasn't worthy they'd left her to die.
This kind of a family, she didn't want at all.
"Why now? How have you only found us now? Or is it only me that you've avoided telling?"
Qiu Yue let the innocent look slip away, leaving the sharp glint in her eye pierce them.
Lang Li Wei seemed flustered. He had not expected her to talk back.
"Of course not! We didn't have the strength to exert a lot of strength after your mother left. The family fell into turmoil. But now, we have finally found you through a stroke of chance."
"You don't seem like you wanted to talk to me though. I believe you have spoken to my brother, and meeting me alone here can only because you didn't want him to know. Why is that?" This time, Qiu Yue flashed him a cold smile.
One of the men on the side seemed to lose his patience not wanting to answer her questions.
"How dare you!-"
"Why wouldn't I dare? A family so weak they couldn't look for two children for 20 years, what is it that you can do to me?"
Inspecting her nails with disinterest she gave him a sidelong glance.
Li Wei's words when he spoke were freezing.
"We are family in the end, having such an attitude does not benefit anyone."
"I'd rather take a loss than side with someone so shifty. If it's someone I can depend on it doesn't matter how strong or weak they are. I know I possess the capacity to protect my own."
As if on cue Bai Yi and a man, Qiu Yue thought it was her brother, walked in. Without giving them a chance to change the flow of the conversation Qiu Yue continued.
"Yi-er, if you want to show your ability or if you ever need any help, then come to me. As your friend and your sister, I have the responsibility to help you. But as for these selfish old men, I have no relation with you all."
Qiu Yue didn't mention Bai Yi's brother at all. She didn't know him and as such, it didn't feel right to include him in either praise or criticism.
The room erupted in loud shouts of denial and anger. Li Wei seemed frozen in anger, however. Qiu Yue nodded at the stunned Bai Yi and promptly walked out. Qiao Feng was waiting and she didn't want to be away too long. She didn't see the adoring and respectful gaze Bai Yi's brother, Bai Dong was sending her back.
When she walked into the hospital room with the bag of clothes and other necessities, Qiao Feng sensed something different. But because his parents were right there he didn't bring it up.
When his parents left a few hours later, Qiao Feng gently pulled on Qiu Yue's hand, letting her sit next to him. Without saying anything, he laid his hand on her waist and pulled her in for a soft hug. Sighing, relaxing finally she rested her cheek on his shoulder. He softly kissed her exposed cheek and just held her.
After a while, Qiu Yue straightened and looked right at Qiao Feng.
"I love you."
His face flushed just a little at the sudden declaration, and he leaned in, pressed his lips to her, pulling her in for a deeper kiss.
He didn't have to ask because no matter what happened he'd be on her side.
Two days later the Lang family publicly released a statement saying that the Xiang kids were the long lost grandchildren of the patriarch. Qiu Yue's face darkened as she read the headline. Her brother had called her early that morning to confess everything to her. She too explained everything that had happened to him, she didn't want anyone else to spin their own versions. He said that it didn't matter who claimed they were their children, he would never abandon her. She'd hung up later with mixed feelings, she felt that the original owner was very fortunate, having such a good brother.
Yet now, here she was, being lavished in the same love that she probably didn't deserve. Shaking her head she decided to let it go for now.
She had an upcoming appearance for an award show. She was performing a new single too, so this statement the Lang family had released was very strategic. She didn't want to comment on it though. For Bai Yi's sake, she'd leave it alone till they forced her to move. Right now she was more focused on the performance. She was planning to debut a new single on that stage. It was one of the biggest music awards in the world. The song she was planning on singing was also one with sweet lyrics and she felt like it would really add to her current image. Most of all, she was singing the song for Qiao Feng, so she knew it would come out well.
So, no excuses, I did die.
