"You have killed a Taotie (Soldier Beast), gaining 100 points!"
"Notice: You have repeatedly killed 200 Taotie (Soldier Beasts), reaching the reward limit. Continuing to kill Taotie (Soldier Beasts) will no longer grant rewards. Please choose other targets!"
In the midst of his intense killing spree, Chen Ye's face suddenly changed upon hearing the system notification.
He swung his sword, cutting down another Taotie. Indeed, there was no reward notification.
"What? No rewards for killing the same type of minion after 200 kills?"
Chen Ye had hoped to accumulate at least 200,000 points today, but now he had only reached 20,000, and the rewards had stopped.
Without hesitation, Chen Ye jumped back, using the ground's impact to propel himself onto the city wall. Since killing more Taotie soldiers would no longer yield points, there was no need to keep risking his life.
Back on the wall, Chen Ye noticed the soldiers looking at him with immense admiration.
To dare fight alone below the wall against the ferocious Taotie, such bravery was unparalleled. It was not an exaggeration to call Chen Ye a "war god." If it weren't for the ongoing battle, many soldiers would be shouting his name.
Chen Ye also saw that many Taotie had breached the wall, causing heavy casualties among the soldiers.
In the distance, General Lin Mei was leading her subordinates in combat against a Taotie. Without hesitation, Chen Ye rushed over.
Even though killing Taotie no longer granted points, he still wanted to help her.
Within a few leaps, Chen Ye was near Lin Mei. Just then, the Taotie, enraged by Lin Mei, lunged at her.
As Lin Mei tried to dodge, she felt a strong arm wrap around her waist.
"Let me handle this!"
The deep, steady voice in her ear made Lin Mei stop all movement, a look of surprise and joy on her face.
Although the Taotie was dangerously close, she felt completely safe.
After all, the man was there to protect her.
With a swift move, Chen Ye's blade slashed through the Taotie, cutting it into pieces. He then kicked the Taotie's carcass away, ensuring it didn't touch Lin Mei.
"I told you to rest once you got up here. You're exhausted; why are you still pushing yourself?" Chen Ye scolded, frowning.
Facing Chen Ye's reprimand, the mighty General Lin Mei looked down like a guilty child, softly explaining, "The Taotie breached the wall. Our soldiers are in danger…"
Her deputy watched in shock. She couldn't believe that their tough, formidable leader, General Lin Mei, was acting like a little girl.
Was this really the same General Lin Mei who was as fierce as any man?
"Go to Commander Shao and rest. I'll handle the Taotie up here," Chen Ye ordered firmly.
Lin Mei, truly exhausted, nodded obediently. "Be careful."
"Don't worry. I have something to discuss with the commander later."
With that, Chen Ye charged towards the rampaging Taotie.
Lin Mei stood there, staring dreamily at his heroic figure like a lovestruck girl.
"General, Mr. Chen is already far ahead…"
Her deputy's soft reminder snapped Lin Mei out of her trance. Blushing, she turned away. "Let's go rest by the commander."
—----------------
Several Taotie had managed to climb the wall, but encountering Chen Ye was their misfortune.
When Chen Ye decapitated the last Taotie on the wall, the soldiers erupted in cheers.
"Mr. Chen, mighty warrior!"
"Mr. Chen, mighty warrior!"
"Mr. Chen, mighty warrior!"
All the soldiers loudly chanted Chen Ye's name.
In the command tower, Commander Shao and Strategist Wang observed the scene.
"This man's martial prowess is unmatched. He deserves the title of war god," Commander Shao remarked.
Strategist Wang nodded in agreement, adding, "His black sword is incredibly sharp, even able to slay Taotie in one blow."
Commander Shao understood Wang's implication but didn't comment, instead saying, "Today's battle was won thanks to Mr. Chen. Without him, the outcome would have been uncertain."
As the commander, Shao wouldn't personally approach Chen Ye to study his sword.
Hearing the commander's praise, Lin Mei smiled as if she herself were being complimented.
"General Lin, I saw everything. Mr. Chen risked his life to save you. You owe him a great debt. After this battle, make sure to thank him properly," Commander Shao instructed.
Lin Mei readily agreed, saluting, "Yes, Commander."
Strategist Wang then suggested with a smile, "Commander, someone like Mr. Chen is a rare talent. If we could enlist him, it would be a great asset in our fight against the Taotie."
Commander Shao seemed intrigued by the idea. Although he didn't know Chen Ye's background, Chen Ye's combat abilities were undeniable, proving he was the top-tier fighter they needed.
"I'm just afraid he won't join the Shadowless Imperial Guard."
Strategist Wang smiled, "Perhaps General Lin should try inviting him."
Lin Mei blushed deeply. Even a fool could understand the implication behind Wang's words.
