Jiang Zhi didn't give up. He kept running after the chicken while aiming his gun. Once he felt it was right, Jiang Zhi pulled the trigger, directing it at the mutant chicken's body.
"Boom" Jiang Zhi's gunshot hit the mutant chicken. The creature stumbled for a moment before getting up again, but Zhang Rui's shot burned it.
"Is this mutant animal this strong? They're even more agile than zombies and hard to target."
"Pfft, these mutant animals are nothing compared to mutant plants, believe me," Shen Yize chimed in.
Zhang Rui, surprised by Shen Yize's statement, asked, "Really? Aren't plants easier to burn or something like that?"
Shen Yize then explained, "Well, my friend, these mutant plants can move wildly because their life core is in the ground, making them a real challenge."
"Ah, I see," Zhang Rui replied shortly.
"By the way, do mutant animals also have crystal cores?" Jiang Zhi asked.
"Yes, they should have crystal cores once they level up. But right now, it's still in the early stages, so there are no crystal cores yet."
"Alright, let's plan our patrol and rest time. Tomorrow, we need to continue the journey."
They took turns watching the car throughout the night; a few zombies seemed to approach, but they managed to drive away those brave enough to get close. As the sky gradually changed from pitch black to cloudy gray, it signaled that the night was turning into early morning. Mu Yang, who was on watch, saw Shen Yize and Jiang Zhi waking up from their short sleep.
"You're finally up!" Mu Yang exclaimed happily as it was his turn to rest.
"Are you alone? Where's Zhang Rui?" Shen Yize asked.
"He fell asleep near the campfire. I'll wake him up and tell him to sleep in the car."
"Yeah, you can rest for a bit. We'll continue the journey as soon as you're ready," Jiang Zhi said, following Shen Yize from behind.
Shen Yize stretched his body after a sound sleep. It felt like a refreshing sensation after a long journey and a tiring day. After stretching, Shen Yize began patrolling, followed by Jiang Zhi.
Because of the cold and damp weather, even though it wasn't raining, Jiang Zhi suggested they wear a few extra layers, even though it might be challenging to move.
Shen Yize grumbled in response to the suggestion.
"Ugh, I'm still not used to these stiff clothes, even though it's been a while."
While adjusting parts of his body, he examined and felt the uncomfortable clothes. The thick garments weighed him down. They were warm, but not very effective. Especially in this era, where he needed to be agile against zombies.
"Maybe we should brainstorm some ideas for warmer clothes that aren't so rigid?" Jiang Zhi suggested.
"Yes, once we know what materials we need, we can look for them."
"True, I didn't think there would still be zombies wandering around here, even after we cleared them out yesterday."
"Tell me about it. Let's go back to the car and have breakfast before we continue the journey," Jiang Zhi invited Shen Yize back.
As they approached the vehicle, Jiang Zhi retrieved food from his empty space and woke up Mu Yang and Zhang Rui, who were sound asleep.
"Let's have breakfast first," Jiang Zhi said.
"Ugh, bread again? Can't you cook some grilled meat in the empty space and give it to me, Jiang Zhi?" Zhang Rui complained about what Jiang Zhi had given.
"Do you want to attract zombies' attention? They can smell food quickly!"
"Can you still fit into the empty space?" Mu Yang suddenly asked curiously.
"Yes, only I can fit. Oh, and, shh, don't tell anyone else."
"Don't worry, the secret is safe."
After the meal, Shen Yize checked the car's readiness. The car was ready to leave the gas station area, with Shen Yize behind the wheel. A new day with a refreshed body after a night's rest. Although there were a few incidents, like the mutant chicken.
"Hey, do you know where your brother and his team went?" Shen Yize asked Mu Yang.
"They might be heading to Base C001, but I'm not exactly sure where it is."
"Yeah, I heard it's to the south, but I don't know exactly where."
"Wow, you're quite knowledgeable. Have you been there before?"
"No, just random guessing. The base can't be too far from the military zone; there's a well-known barracks to the south."
"I see, I see."
"Yeah, and Shen Yize has an amazing predicting ability!" Zhang Rui added playfully.
"Really?" Mu Yang asked, almost believing it.
"Yes, it's true. He knows everything about the end of the world and..." Before Zhang Rui could finish his sentence, Jiang Zhi interrupted him.
"Zhang Rui, don't talk too much."
"Alright, alright. Shen Yize, your partner is a bit possessive; I better shut up."
"Yeah, my best survival partner," Shen Yize said.
After driving for a few hours, Shen Yize stopped to switch positions with Mu Yang. Not far from there, there was a health institute—a place they were also searching for to find a prosthetic hand for Zhang Rui. They would certainly go in there. But unfortunately, Shen Yize had a different idea.
"Hey, let's check that place for a prosthetic hand for me!"
"No, that's not a good idea. We should look for an orthopedic clinic rather than a health institute or hospital."
"Why? Can't we find a prosthetic hand in a health institute too?" Mu Yang was confused. He thought that all prosthetic body equipment should be very comprehensive there. And there would be no need to look elsewhere.
But Shen Yize disagreed with Zhang Rui that the institute was the only place with a complete setup. According to Shen Yize, it would be very difficult due to the large hospital building and numerous rooms. There would likely be many zombies gathered there as well.
"The health institute is filled with zombies because they were filled with sick people during the fever outbreak before doomsday."
"What's the difference with an orthopedic clinic? Isn't it part of the health institute?" Zhang Rui was also puzzled.
"Trust me, when Shen Yize says there's a difference, there's a difference. Just think, sick people wouldn't be taken to an orthopedic clinic, right?" Jiang Zhi explained to the still confused Zhang Rui and Mu Yang, whose thought processes were slow.

Unfortunately, no one paid attention to Zhang Rui's words, as they had found the place they were looking for.
"Yo, there's an orthopedic clinic over there. We can stop by, but not too close. Let's assess the situation first."
"Awesome." Mu Yang seemed amazed by the place.
"Everyone, get out!"
"Finally, I'll get my hand back."
A moment after they got out of the car, two zombies approached. But it wasn't a threat to them. The two zombies were quickly dealt with.
"Hey, should we split up to find prosthetic hands faster?" Zhang Rui suggested, only to be rejected outright by Jiang Zhi.
"No, that's foolish! We're a small group, and if something big happens, it'll be hard to deal with. It's better to stick together."
"Relax, friend. Just be patient for a bit," Jiang Zhi reassured, patting Zhang Rui's shoulder.
"Psh, I'm always patient. I can even climb every staircase."
"Ugh, what else can we do? The power is out, and the elevator is broken," Mu Yang spontaneously said.
"Stop complaining, friend."
After a while of walking and searching, they finally arrived at the storage room for prosthetic arms and legs. As expected, Zhang Rui enthusiastically started looking for a hand for himself.
"Is this one suitable? Ah, the lighting is poor, I can't see the color of this hand properly to match my skin!"
"Don't worry, I'll help you check it." Mu Yang came to assist.
"Should I store everything in the empty space? It might come in handy later." Jiang Zhi asked Shen Yize.
"It's not impossible. Although people with special abilities can regenerate their bodies, usually only those at high levels can do so. So, these prosthetic arms and legs could be useful for those who lost limbs before reaching a high level."
"Yes, even ordinary people can use them, right?"
"Yes."
"Zhang Rui, have you chosen your hand?" Jiang Zhi inquired.
"I found one, but it can't be attached right now!"
"Don't worry, I'll store everything in the empty space. Do you also want to store yours?"
"Yes, of course."
Jiang Zhi touched the rack containing prosthetic arms and legs. Instantly, all the items on the rack vanished without a trace. Truly extraordinary power from a storage space.
"Wow, like magic, but not real magic!" Mu Yang was so amazed at the sight. All those prosthetic body parts disappeared instantly, even though there were so many of them.
"You'll get used to seeing miracles. Jiang Zhi suddenly disappears for hours and then reappears out of nowhere." Zhang Rui teased Jiang Zhi's habits.
"Alright, let's head down once we're done here," Shen Yize said, remaining cautious throughout.
They walked down the stairs. However, from a window, they saw something strange happening across the street. They faintly saw a group of zombies moving slowly toward a building on the opposite side of the road.
"Why are those zombies heading towards that building?" Shen Yize wondered aloud, realizing the situation.
"It seems like there are people inside; some of them are injured, and zombies can smell blood," Mu Yang guessed. But Mu Yang's estimation wasn't just a random statement. He had an exceptional observation ability.
"Look at the cars leaving from the side road. Are they having a conversation or something?" Mu Yang pointed to the cars across the street.
"No, it looks like a fight. They're leaving some people behind as bait," Zhang Rui observed carefully the events there.
"Hey, that's my little sister!" Mu Yang exclaimed in shock.
