technically speaking this makes a certain sense as Clark had his whole life to adapt to the absorption accumulation etc. and his powers came in slower as a child in some ways. even kara as a teenager didn't have Clarks strength for years which is credited either to the codex, his natural birth, and or time he's had to adapt to absorption of non red sun radiation . i tend to credit a mix of all factors for Clark considering superman one million
He wasn't able to get more power just by absorbing the sun like Superman, though, as he even got sick due to excessive solar energy. He wasn't in too much of a rush to do this as his body needed time to adapt. Luckily for him, he still had time.

depends on the old man like you said. and if you make his twilight years a paradise, i.e. sorta kinda earn it, dude might legitimately hand it off.
I do not plan on killing the old man but he is like 70 something and he is getting more and more forgetful. It does make me feel gross and evil but I need to think about my future over others right now.
