My review here refers to the translation quality and not the story itself because this terrible translation is such an eyesore. Chu Nightning?? Seriously?? No one bothers to even correct the blatant mistake from the machine translation? He’s the ML of the story and yet, just as i skimmed through the first few chapters, I see this atrocious error and total disregard to the readers. For those who are wondering what I’m referring to: it’s Chu Wanning, that’s the name of the second male protagonist, the love interest of the MC in this story. P.S. “Wan” means “night” in Chinese but it’s absolutely unforgivable not to even realise this mistranslation considering this is Webnovel and not any mtl website.

Give it up. I just found out, this novel has been discontinued. Trust me, I was fuming when I found out because I spent the last weeks bingeing until 1800 chapters only to find that the author has abandoned it since 2021.

If anyone is interested in reading this novel, please just give it up and don’t waste your time. The author abandoned this story out of a sudden and decided to write a new book that contains historical mentions (kinda like an ending summary). But he didn’t! I check on the Chinese website where he published this novel, he only has three novels. None of them is finished. This book has the most chapters >1800. Second book only has 50 chapters and the third book is a few hundreds chapters. Imagine my frustration when I spent so much time reading almost 2000 chapters and was left in the lurch. I think that’s a writer’s most fundamental responsibility: to give their readers a complete story regardless of the circumstances. Disappointment is too mild a word. I never thought I’d be addicted as I’ve read much better storylines with cohesive plots but somehow boredom got the better of me and I persevered with this novel after 50 chapters. This story started as a cliche and when more characters were brought in, it became more engaging. Overall the writer has a tendency to draw out battles and focus on lengthy descriptive narrative for minor characters. So it can get very tedious to read. Sometimes the MC gets out of character and the story veers towards the usual banal and corny romance plot to the extent that he’d risk the annihilation of his own life and clan just to protect the useless and undeserving family of his wife whom he hardly knows.** in those moments, I thought I was reading a mawkish and cheesy romantic plot of Tang San and Xiao Wu (from Douluo Continent).🫣 Generally the storyline is engaging enough to keep you going once you pass the introductory and world building phase in the first 50 chapters approximately. When I reached 200 chapters, WebNovel started charging and I didn’t even mind paying for it because that was when the plots expanded and some characters are quite endearing. Then I came to a standstill when my rate of consumption exceeded the rate of WebNovel’s translation. I even paid for privilege sneak preview. In fact, I should be thankful of my uncontrollable curiosity and impatience, otherwise I’d still be paying for every chapter on WebNovel. Trust me there’re other better novels that are worth your coins but not this. My desperation for a continuation and closure led me to search outside WebNovel. I didn’t even mind the terrible machine translation at MTL and later I found the raw files on some Chinese novel websites and thanks to Google Translation, I resumed my bingeing. When I reached the last available chapter, I thought the novel is still ongoing and I’d have to wait for new release, not until I checked the date of the last update which is in 2021 and it has not been updated since. So long story short, if you want to read it just for the fun, go ahead. It’s not that bad but don’t expect to find a closure. P.S. I seriously hope WebNovel will not charge readers for this book that is not even completed and will never be.
