thats when Rhaenys would go down the Maegor route, it would fracture their power base, the Velaryons would forever be remembered as greedy, power hungry vassals and so on. Corlys and Rhaenys are far to sensible to go down that route, it's just inviting more needless fighting, instability and rebellion, when by that point, the Velaryons and Targaryens would pretty much be one big house.

Velaryons being black makes sense if Corlys father married a black woman to secure an important business venture/deal/alliance using her family's influence. What doesn't make sense is that the entire Velaryon family is black. I get the producers want to make the characters more easier to identify but changing the entire House? if they did that, the Targs would have married Celtigar's instead of Velaryons, they would never marry a Velaryon due to their skin colour

for legitimacy, Rhaenys can outright just usurp and ascend house Velaryon to the iron throne which the lords will reject and consequently be much harder to win the war or Rhaenys can usurp Viserys by using her claim to the iron throne as the only descendant of the eldest son of Jaehaerys the first. if she does it the second way then she will have to give her children the name Targaryen for legitimacy. The name does have prestige and reputation.

Dude just because the MC doesn't want to be in the war doesn't mean that he won't be in the war. Like right now, Viserys is scheming some plans together to marry Aemon and Rhaenyra together. Things can happen since we are now venturing into unknown territory, Daemon has a bastard and hasn't abandoned his kingdom. Viserys is active in politics and trying to secure the succession by stacking the deck in Rhaenyra's favours unlike canon where he was passive. Just wait
