I get what you are saying. But he kind had time to figure stuff out, didn’t he? It’s not like he is tossed into these situations every day. There was a time skip before the factory incident, then another in Ionia. He had plenty of time to think about things. Besides, goals are formed because of these stressful situations. Like because of all the shitty situations he was put into, he was afraid for his life or he was weak he craves power like he never craved power before. In a story discovering these goals during or right after such events feels more imactful. People come to learn more about themselves in such stressful situations then they do when they simply contemplate about it.

It’s kind of frustrating a little. I don’t quite understand the character at the moment. On the one hand, you’ve described the mc as a survivor. On the other hand, he keeps helping people and every time gets burned hard for it, but he doesn’t learn/become colder(?), more distant. Another issue if we can even call it that, is that cares without a reason. For example, when he first saw Vi and the gang. He wanted to belong with them, because they were familiar faces. Orion cared so much that he almost sacrificed himself for them, even though he was often left behind by the gang and Vendor. To be fair you also visited this idea, when Orion thought about it. However, it was never explored properly. Another point of contention is that the mc still does not have a purpose. Is it power? Delving deeper into magic? Lead people? Family and friends(even though the relationships he has are shallow atm)? Right now he is just existing(even if he struggles to do that)🤣 and not living. Some food for thought.💭 Nevertheless, this is nice novel. Thanks for that. 😄👍

So this isn’t exactly about the vegetation, but more so about the spirits residing in it and that they can curse the land if angered, correct? Maaaan living in Ionia would be such drag, beautiful, but a drag.

I just think it’s hypocritical tbh. I find what he did to be no different from cutting a tree to build a house or start a fire. Would the order punish everyone who does that? If they are the protestors of the balance, then they are protectors of life and death(the cycle of life).

Im not a lol connoisseur so I don’t know why damaging the vegetation is such a big deal in Ionia. Because they consider it sacred? Its not like it will not grow back.

Bro, why would you even expect that? The equivalent exchange is ridiculous in this case. He is not going to sacrifice a limb like that. He was dipicted as a survivor even tho he risked his life for his friends. This is totally different.
