The deal with the old elite would be more intriguing with politking and negotiating. Also you can never go wrong with a bigger army.
Only thing I would be curious about John being king would be how. I mean George Washington was offered to be king, but he was a renowned war hero with the love of the army and just massive amount of popularity. However, I guess John could reach that popularity and it would be interesting wild timeline of a us with a monarch as you said. I don’t know…
