Chương 89: Who's your Daddy?

This is peculiar for sure. An oasis-looking area in the middle of a mountain. This feels like a promised land. The wyverns rush to it without any fear. Ah, there are a bunch of them all over too.

For once, I feel safe. Even with all the creatures in the surroundings. I know exactly why too. There are trees. There is grass. There are tons of white flowers. The nature mana in this area is abundant. Of course, it doesn't even come close to home. Still, the feeling is great.

My wyverns start lapping at the pond furiously. How does one drink furiously? Well, they are sending water all over the place. If you think owning a dog can get messy try a wyvern.

I approach them and start petting them. That only makes them freeze for a second before they realize that they are in no immediate danger and they resume.

Honestly, I'm wondering if it would be possible to domesticate these. I mean to have them follow orders without the constant threat of death. Could become really interesting.

Would likely be less dangerous than trying to tame a dragon. Said in a bad way they are idiots. Said in a good way they have less of a problematic ego. I can picture a future where wyverns are the go-to means of transport.

How does the last one work? I don't know. Still, this would be the perfect place to establish an advanced outpost. Right at the edge of our territory. Now if only there was a way to fast-travel here.

I really can't be bothered to cover that distance over and over again. Could you imagine forgetting something? That would be insane. Let's say you forget to bring your sword or… Yeah, I should have brought one for sure.

I mean I didn't want to go see the dwarf after leaving him a sentient furnace out of the blue. It would have been fine if the personality was a bit different. That screaming one was a bit too much even for me. You know the expression someone only a mother could love? Well, when even the creator abhors what he gave life too it's a bad sign.

Now that I think about it… I totally left that hammer behind. He should still be in the roc's nest. The good thing is he doesn't have a need for any sustenance. He'll be fine. Albeit perhaps a bit, no very bored. Oh well, it's too late to go back. Oops.

It is at that exact moment that a ton of wyverns start screeching. They all start flying. All toward me. This could be dangerous. It is very open. There is not much cover. There are trees but that's about it.

I get the surrounding greenery to obey my command and gather around me. Roots, vines, long grass. Every time a wyvern comes close to me I simply repeat my war cry. In retrospect maybe it wasn't my best idea. Screaming that is fun at first, but long-term I don't know. It kinda loses the epic factor and becomes weird.

I'm ready to fight tooth and nail, but nope. I am not their target at all. They are all rushing to the pond. My six pseudo-domesticated wyverns retreat. Part of them seems to want to join their brethren.

Some land on the side of the pond. Some even in the shallow water on the sides. The rest crowd above it. Flying in a big circle. It seems like there is something about to happen.

The cacophony is intense. I am ready to fight. I won't go down without a fight. I glance warily at the pond. What kind of ritual is this? That is when it happens.

*SPLASH*

An insane quantity of water starts overflowing from the pond. It seems it was way deeper than I first believed. Then I can see a figure emerging. Scaly.Huge. Golden-brown.

Through the splashing water, I can see two lights. Radiant golden eyes. Glaring at me. I'm fucked, aren't I?

Should I send some spikes into its mouth? Should I try and target the wings? Then I could try and leave with my wyverns. They don't seem to be following its order as much as the others.

Maybe I should try and blind it? I could also target its ass. Maybe use nature magic to bend a tree in there. I'm sure the scales wouldn't cover that area. I could try a mix of those. It probably won't expect me to put much of a fight.

I'll have to engage with a decisive blow. Maybe fake being weak so it lets its guard down? Then fuck it up big time. So many options. Which one would give me the better odds? I'm not sure.

At least there is a bit of mana in the area. Against one enemy it won't be that bad. Only issue is gonna be the minions. I need to disable the big one then I can run. That should do. It opens its cavernous mouth…

"What was that about being someone's daddy?!"

It can speak! No, she can speak. Clearly a female voice. Sultry enough to be pleasing. Sounds mature and steady. But still, she is a giant wyvern. Now, this is great! The fact that she can talk.

This means that I can probably talk my way out of this. That is the issue with mindless beasts, they won't mind dying if it means killing you. With a logical opponent, I just need to appear strong enough to be intimidating.

I do have an advantage for that. This body doesn't sweat. My heart doesn't beat faster either. It is relatively easy for me to fake confidence. I just need to show her that I am not afraid in the least and everything will be fine.

"Oh? And who would it be referring to?"

I look straight at her. Give a radiant smile. With my back straight.
