65.24% Wretch: Exception To The Rule / Chapter 122: Pay Respect

Chương 122: Pay Respect

Of the last two apostles remaining, the unknown one didn't say a word but still seemed to communicate something, akin to...

...To some sort of shrug or nod and then left, its bizarre but immense presence vanishing, Axiolypito only realising that it had left after a few seconds had passed.

With the other having 'said' its own piece, Dramentia chuckled madly and whispered something, which wasn't necessary but it was clear that the delirious dragon wasn't one to care for such frivolous things.

"It's going to happen soon" he simply said without elaboration before his presence disappeared as well, returning the crystal to its usual calmness.

Axio didn't want to bother trying to decrypt what they all had in their own twisted minds, he already had his own to take care of.

He looked at the body of the king, still standing tall, he felt like he would never fall over no matter what if left alone.

Still, for this glorious adversary, he felt like something more proper should be done, he thought about spawning something to carry the corpse but stopped himself at the last second, stretched his limp shoulders.

-A pointless exercise for one that could be wrung like a towel.

Then, he picked the body up with much trouble, not only was he just that much smaller compared to the Old Hadal King, his strength was too pitiful for this sort of manual labor.

But he held on and carried the armored body out of the room, soon reaching the stagnating ocean, now completely drained of any water.

The city hadn't even left any ruins behind, completely gone from history, only Nartak remained.

His skeleton at least, the curse of the Abyss had been broken in full and the ocean had been brought back to the present.

Nartak had most likely remained even after everything had been destroyed and swept to oblivion, his flesh had rotted away but his bones wee pristine, as though it hadn't been so long since he had died, or as if someone had been polishing his remains.

The second options was the truth, as a small gravestone-looking thing was place right in front of his skull, a few words written on its cold surface:

"Here Lies Nartak, The Divine Serpent Of The Deep, His Body Coiled Around The King's Most Beloved's Tomb, Eternally Shielding It Even In Death" read Axio aloud, every word was capitalised, the writting was distinct and eloborate, someone had taken their time honoring the serpent.

Axiolypito still couldn't understand why such a mighty beast would fall into such a meaningless duty but he didn't show it and moved in between Nartak's ribs until he reached the center of what he was protecting.

Finding the landmark showing where the queen had been buried, Axio put the king's corpse down and growing claws meant for digging, began making room for him.

Once he was done with it, he tried to find the queen's crown, which the Abyss had handed out to him, wanting to return it to its owner, but failed to find it, the next instant, when he looked down, he saw that the crown had been returned already, seeming as though it had never been taken.

The Abyss had altered the events, once it was banished, the everything had returned to what it should have been.

In reality, Nartak had never been corrupted and the queen's crown had never been taken.

This casted doubts on everything else, what was real and what wasn't? Had any of Axio's action truly meant anything?

The Old Hadal King didn't seem to have been affected by anything.

After finishing to bury his adversary, who had been much more honorable and powerful than him, he wondered what had become of the Lost Hunter And Abyss Eater.

He soon got his answer and he went out to look for the answers himself.

Both seemed to have completely disappeared, the hole left in the side of the ocean was there, but the corrupted man seemed completely gone, at first glance at least.

His remains had been covered up by dust and fossilised corals, his bones were all that remains, his crushed arms was completely gone, the bone dust most likely swept and spread away.

His skull was detached from his body and resting in his other hand, his body was still kneeling, his own head held closely to his chest.

It may seemed strange, but Axiolypito felt like his fate was clear, the nameless hunter had taken his own head before the Abyss could fully get to him.

The real events didn't include Axio or any other worthy prey that could pull him out of insanity and push him to higher realms, still, he hadn't conceded defeat to the Abyss.

As Axio tried to touch the skeleton, it had collapsed into dust, carried away by a breeze that Axiolypito couldn't feel.

In the end, it was the Abyss corruption of time and space that had allowed him to have a fight worthy to take his life, even if only in an alternate timeline that was erased already erased, funny how that works.

The real man would never know any of it however, or maybe he would, maybe that slumbering fool the other apostles had mentioned had also taken interest in him, he may not be as grand as the Old Hadal King, but his achievements were also great.

Axio then looked up toward the caves up above, now much harder to reach due to all of the water being gone, however, there was no need for him to climb up there, the old hunter own remains were clear for all to see at the bottom.

He hadn't fallen to his death, his skeleton seemed intact, unlike the thousands of other remains his carcass was sitted atop.

Maybe he had fully gone insane or more likely, he had slaughetered everything up in the caves and leaped into the water, either to find sustenances or to satisfy his want to hunt, either way, he had somehow come out on top even when surrounded by darkness and vile water.

Even in their environments, the preys had been unable to outmatch their hunter.

After paying his respects to all of his adversaries, Axio soon found himself in front of the exit leading to the surface.

It was time to go back to the main course.
