Chương 6: Disownment

At night, when everyone was asleep, Orpal stood up and took a knife from underneath his pillow. The knife blade reflected his face, full of malice.

He climbed out of bed slowly, opened the door without making any noise, and began to move stealthily through the house until he reached the sisters' room. Opening the door quietly, he ensured everyone was still asleep, then made his way to Leon's bed.

Watching Leon sleep, Orpal searched for the bracelet but didn't find anything. He looked at Leon's hand and found the bracelet. He tried to see how it could be opened but found no mechanism. Frustrated, he cursed under his breath.

His eyes fell on the knife he had brought with him. Frowning a bit, he lifted the knife and—swoosh.

Splurt...

"Arghhhhhhhhh!"

A scream echoed, waking everyone. Tista and Rena woke up instantly to find Orpal attacking Leon, who was trying to protect himself with his hand.

Leon waved his hand, causing Orpal to be sent flying and crashing into the wall.

Thud thud...

Soon, Raaz and Elena entered, along with Lith and Trion. Trion even brought his broadsword with him.

Raaz and the others looked at Leon holding his hand, and then at Orpal, holding a bloody knife.

Tista, seeing Elena, rushed to her and, sobbing, blurted out everything. They had woken up to Leon's scream and found Orpal stabbing him.

Seething with anger, Raaz snatched the training sword from Trion's hand and gave a good smack to the back of Orpal's head, knocking him out.

"Bind this bastard," he said angrily. Trion rushed to the stables, grabbed a rope, and handed it to Raaz, who then bound Orpal to a chair.

Meanwhile, Lith checked if Leon had fixed his hand properly.

"Leon, are you alright?" Raaz asked, approaching him.

"I am fine. He suddenly stabbed my wrist out of nowhere," Leon replied, shaking his head.

Raaz nodded, grabbed a jug, and poured water on the unconscious Orpal.

Pointing the training sword at Orpal, he asked, "Why did you attack Leon in the middle of the night?"

"I can explain!" Orpal said hesitantly, seeing everyone looming over him.

"You can explain?" Raaz shouted while beating him. Elena stopped him and said, "Stop. Enough blood is already spilled. He is a lost cause."

Hearing Elena, Orpal shouted back, "It's all that leech's fault! Why should he monopolize that artifact?" He pointed at Leon's bracelet.

Leon clutched his bracelet in response.

Raaz frowned and asked Leon about the bracelet.

Leon explained truthfully how one day while hunting they had come across it along with a storage artifact, with Lith taking the storage artifact and him taking the bracelet that could turn into a sword.

Raaz nodded and then beat Orpal again, saying, "It was their prize for their hard work. They acquired it, not stole it. It's theirs, not yours to share."

"Why? I am the eldest; they should have presented it to me!" Orpal shouted back.

Raaz, seeing him like this, shook his head as he fell to the ground. "You are right, Elena, he is a lost cause."

Taking a deep breath, he then said, "We will disown him tomorrow."

Hearing this, Orpal felt the world slipping from under his feet. Thinking Elena might stop Raaz, he looked at her.

"Yes, let's do that. I can't see my other children getting hurt because of him," Elena added, much to his dismay.

The next day, Orpal was disowned, stripped of his name and everything. He was now a nameless orphan.

Raaz and Elena cried for a week before they tried to act normal. Except for them, everyone was happy.

Lith was happy; he never saw Orpal as a brother. Tista and Rena never saw him as a brother either. As for Trion, he felt saddened, thinking maybe if he had tried to talk to Orpal, he wouldn't have been disowned.

Still, after some encouragement from the others, he nodded and continued his magic and sword training.

One day while practicing and sparring with swords, Tista and Rena asked, "Hey, can we learn magic too?"

Lith and I looked at each other and nodded.

From that day, Lith began to teach Rena while I taught Tista.

Both of us only taught them basic magic, as even we don't know higher-grade magic. Just kidding—I know it, but I can't reveal it... yet.

In just two days, Tista performed her first magic spell, becoming the fourth mage in our family. Rena took four days to successfully cast her spell.

Trion looked at both of them and sighed, as it had taken him almost seven days to cast his first magic.

But nonetheless, seeing all their children become mages filled Elena and Raaz with utmost joy and astonishment. Even Nana was amazed.

"It seems either both of you or one of you has what it takes to become a mage. My guess is on Elena," Nana said when Elena shared the news with her.

"Then can you teach all of my children?" Elena and Raaz went to her to ask, hoping just like Leon and Lith when they showed their talent, she might take them as apprentices.

Nana shook her head and asked, "First, tell me how they became Magico and Magica."

Magico and Magica basically mean novice mages.

Elena then explained how Leon and Lith taught them, leading to Tista and Rena learning and using magic.

"Haah! It seems your bloodline truly is that of mages," Nana sighed and began to tap the table with her fingers.

Elena and Raaz patiently waited for her.

"Hmm, how about this: I will teach Lith and Leon, while the other three will just watch. If they have any questions, they will ask Lith and Leon."

"Honestly, my old bones and frail body can't afford to teach so many students altogether," she said.

Elena and Raaz nodded and then said, "It's okay. It's enough for you to allow Lith and Leon to share your wisdom or what they learn from you with the rest of the children," Raaz said.

Nana nodded and then shooed them away, saying she had patients to attend to.

Raaz and Elena didn't mind her words as what they wanted was done: Tista, Trion , and Rena could now learn magic.

As they returned home and shared the news, both Lith and I sighed in relief while the others celebrated.

I then started removing impurities from Mom. After Tista's treatment, when everyone found out the side effects, I became their go-to healer. Now, I had removed impurities from Mom, Elena, Dad, and Trion.

This led to Lith and Raaz sticking out like sore thumbs since my siblings and I took after Elena while Lith took after Raaz.

"Mom, it's done," I said, wiping the sweat and purging the impurities with dark magic.

"Thanks, sweetie," Elena said and then left.

Coming out of the bathroom, I went to my room and slept like a log.

I only woke up in the afternoon at Lith's insistence.

"Hey! Don't forget we have to hunt a big game today or how are we going to get money for the festival?" he said, waking me up.

Nodding my head, I got up, washed my face, and joined him, along with a new companion.

"Trion, you are joining us?" I asked, surprised, as it was usually just Lith and me.

"Yes, after Rena and Tista started learning magic, they are helping Mom and Dad with farm work. I no longer have anything else to do, so I will be following you guys," Trion said and then shrugged as he joined us too.

After more than a month of training, he could finally use his first magic.
