"I'm pregnant." The look on Max face was priceless, his mouth dropped as soon as the two words escaped my throat. He closed his mouth and stared at me with furrowed eyebrows. "I'm going to be a father?" A grin broke onto his face as he kissed my knuckles.
I shook my head repeatedly as I took my hand away from him. "You just don't get it." I looked to the other side as a teardrop slipped out of my eye. "What don't I get? What is going on?" Max touched my chin and turned my face to look at him.
"I knew I was pregnant already." He suddenly tensed, his calm and collected posture changed into a pissed and angry one. "You hid your pregnancy from me?" He let go of my chin as he raised his voice. "Since when Alexandra!" His eyes turned dark, and his posture now was scaring me. "I said. Since when!" I flinched at his hash tone and looked at him trembling. "I'm sorry." I cried out hysterically.
"I don't care how fucking sorry you are! Tell me. Since when Alexandra!" He shouted at me beyond furious and beyond anything I ever experienced. "One thing is for you to be angry at me and it's another thing for you to hide your pregnancy from me, my baby!" I cried out harder and clutched my fist on the bed, shaking my head repeatedly as my body shook from the sobs that were escaping my throat.
I couldn't speak. I couldn't do anything. I just sat there and cried my heart out. "Don't just sit there and cry! Answer my fucking question!" Max spat out heartless, with venom dripping out of each word he said.
"I could have died on the battlefield without knowing that I was going to be a father. So tell me Alexandra, when were you going to tell me that you were pregnant?" My heart clenched tightly, making me gasp in pain as I sobbed from the unbearable pain I was feeling. "On my funeral?"
"Now I get it. The cravings. All the times you fainted and was feeling sick was because you were pregnant, you had pretty much time back then to tell me about it, but you still kept your mouth shut." He kept yelling at me over and over and I couldn't stop sobbing.
"Was it because I hurt you?" I put my hands on my face and tried to calm myself down. "Were you pregnant then? Of course, you were pregnant." He laughed humorlessly, slamming the chair aside.
I breathed out shakily, finally gathering the courage to talk. "The day..." I gulped down shakily. "I didn't know that I was pregnant." I changed what I was about to say. "The day I was with Andre was because I had a feeling about it. We went to the drugstore and that's how it all happened."
He laughed again darkly, scaring me more. "All the tests I did came out wrong." I continued to explain him even though I knew that it didn't change the fact that I hide it from him. "I came home and decided to take a spare one just in case and it came out positive."
I took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, I really did try to tell you, but I couldn't and the lie just grew and I couldn't get myself out of it." He ran his hands through his hair, tugging at them. "Please forgive me." I got out of the bed weak as I was.
I stumbled on the ground, holding onto his arms as I slide on the ground crying. "Alexandra..." He pulled me back on my feet and gripped my arms. "Come on, let's get you back in bed." He looked down at me cold and indifferent. "No. Not until you forgive me." I sneaked my hands in between us and grabbed his face in my hands. He forced his head to the side, taking my hands away. "You're killing me please."
"And you already killed me." He gritted out harshly without any kind of consideration in his voice. I broke from his hold and stumbled back to the bed, with him behind me trying to steady me.
"Let go of me!" I stumbled again as I tried to get on the bed. "I don't need your help and you clearly don't need me so why don't you leave?" I hold my stomach with one hand and pushed me on the bed with the other one.
Max pulled my legs on the bed and tried to accommodate me, but I pushed his hands away. "It is the way it is because of you not me. You're trying to turn this on me when this is all your fault." I pressed my eyes shot tightly as a sob escaped my throat.
"Then get out, if you're hurt just get out. You're making me agitated and restless so just leave." I sobbed, my chest heaved up and down. "Alexandra, calm down." My chest heaved up and down as I started to hyperventilate.
"No, get out. You said what you needed to say. You got your anger out now leave, I don't need you here making me feel worse than I already feel." I flinched, cupping my stomach as I turned on the other side, ignoring him.
Weeks later.
Today was the day of my first ultrasound. I know Max and I were rocky, but I didn't want to do this alone, I wanted him there for me as we meet our baby for the first time. I didn't want him to miss this, it really means the world to me if he could be there for us.
So, I texted him and told him that I had my first ultrasound today and I wanted him to come with me. After not getting any response from him, I grabbed my bag with a sigh and headed towards the door.
I drove to Leah's office and parked my car in an empty spot, turning off the engine and grabbing my bag from the passenger seat as I got out of the car, locking it behind me.
I greeted the people in the waiting room and walked toward the receptionist. "Alexandra Armstrong."
"Take a seat please, I'll call you in a few minutes." The receptionist said politely, and I nodded my head at her, walking toward an empty seat. I sighed deeply and played with my phone, unlocking it to see if I had a message from Max but nothing.
I sighed in disappointment and locked the phone back, sliding it in my bag. I grabbed a magazine and leaned in my seat, scanning through it. "Alexandra Armstrong." I nodded my head and stood up with my bag, following the receptionist.
She knocked on the door and opened it when Leah told her to, stepping away so I can walk in. "Thank you." I nodded my head at her and turned to look at Leah as the door closed behind me. "Hey." I greeted her with a hug and a kiss on her cheek.
"Ready to see your baby? Follow me." I put my bag on the chair and followed behind her. "Lean down on the bed and raise your shirt up." She walked toward a machine and sat down, grabbing an object and added a gel on it. "It's a bit cold but not much."
She applied it on my lower abdomen and moved it in place. "Your baby is fully formed, all the organs are well formed, you can see the hand here and the legs. Perfect ten toes and ten fingers." I watched the screen in aw, the baby moving around.
"She or he is also very happy to meet mommy."
She pressed the object on my lower stomach and pressed some knobs. "The baby's heart is beating perfectly; the size and weight is more than just fine. You have a very healthy baby. "Leah said as she moved the object around and pointed at the things, she was explaining me from the screen. "You can also be in a position to see the genitalia."
The door knocked, interrupting Leah. "I'm sorry, but there is someone asking for the patient." The receptionist asked nervously, and Leah looked down at me as I frowned. "Do I let him in or...?" When she said him, my heart literally jumped and the baby's heart rate skyrocket, filling the room.
"Well, we all know who he is now. Isn't it right baby?" Leah cooed before turning to look at the receptionist. "Let him in, do you want him to come in?" She turned to ask me immediately and I nodded my head at her, the receptionist disappearing for a few seconds.
Max appeared and the receptionist closed the door behind him. "Sorry I'm late." Max said as he walked toward us and stood on the bed side. "What did I miss?" He was here, I felt the need to cry but stayed in check.
These hormones were all over the place, making me feel emotional and fragile. "Not much, the baby is perfectly fine. The heartbeat as you can hear is excellent, the size is perfect. You can see the hands here, the legs."
"You can see the facial features, there's the eyes as well as the mouth. You can also see the baby's, fingers and toes." As Leah pointed and continued to show us our baby, I couldn't help but feel emotional.
This all felt surreal to me, something so tiny can turn into a human being. I sniffed and cupped my mouth as I stared at my baby. I felt a hand slipping in mine and I looked up at Max who stared at the screen.
I stared at the screen in wonder, she was pointing at things that weren't even visible, well for me at least. She must have seen so many babies in her life that she knows everything from heart.
"Yes, and we're done." She removed the object from my stomach and wiped the gel off my stomach. "Make sure to make an appointment around your 18th week ultrasound." I nodded my head at her and pulled down my shirt, Max helping me up. "Here's your baby pictures."
"Thanks." I stood up from the bed and walked toward the chair, grabbing my bag. "See you in six weeks." I gave Leah a hug and a kiss and headed toward the door, Max holding the door for me as we got out. I walked toward the receptionist and made my appointment for my 18th week.
"Thank you." I turned around and walked toward the door, getting out of Leah's office. I brushed my hair back and shifted my eyes down as I looked away from Max. "Thanks for coming, I thought you wouldn't."
"Why wouldn't I? I'm sorry for not responding, I didn't see your message until ten minutes later. I hoped that I wasn't late." Stop, hormones why? I blinked my eyes away and looked to the side. "Thank you for message me."
I felt Max lips on my forehead before he pulled away and walked toward his car, getting in. I turned around with a deep sigh and unlocked my door, getting in. I started the engine and drove away from Leah's office.
Weeks past and Max was still not talking to me, we had a few moments due to the baby and stuff, but he was still distant and as for me, I was getting bigger and bigger with each day past. I was now five months pregnant and looking like a watermelon.
I sighed and rubbed my fat belly as I sat in the waiting room, waiting for my turn. As I sat there, I looked around me to see couples sitting there smiling and laughing, touching, and kissing as they cooed at their unborn baby.
It's a shame Max couldn't be here today, he had serious problems with rogues and resolving deaths of pack members to come. "Miss Armstrong?" I stood up, grabbing my bag and walked inside of Leah's office.
I knocked on the door and opened the door slightly, sticking my head in and stepped inside. "Good morning, Leah." She smiled warmly at me and mentioned me to take a seat. "Morning. How are you? Everything's fine?"
I nodded my head and sat in the chair. "I think so. My morning sickness has calmed down a bit, but I still have them. Other than that, I'm fine." She nodded her head in response. "I see." She smiled at me. "How about we take a look at that baby?" I nodded and stood up, walking toward the bed, and hopped in with her help and leaned down. She raised my dress and covered my lower part with a white sheet and turned around, putting her elastic cloves on.
Leah applied a small amount of water-soluble gel on my belly, making me shiver from the cold gel. She grabbed a small device, called a transducer, and gently applied it against my skin. The sound of waves or echoes, whatever you want to call it, could be heard inside the office as a black and white picture appeared on the screen.
Leah was monitoring with the transducer when we heard a heartbeat, my heart skipped a beat as Leah showed me my baby. My eyes got teary as I stared at the screen in front of me. "What? What is it?" I asked as Leah froze. "What's happening Leah? Is my baby, okay?" I leaned on my elbow as I panicked, looking at Leah in fear.
Leah furrowed her eyebrows as she moved the transducer around, looking for something. "Leah?" I choked out, holding back my tears.
"There are two of them." Leah replied cheerfully as she pointed at the screen, showing me the second baby. "Do you want a picture of them?" Leah asked me who was still in shock, so I only nodded my head and keep staring at the screen.
I smiled automatically while gawking at my babies, still not believing it. She wiped the gel of my skin and helped me sat up. I got off the bed with Leah's help and walked toward the chair, taking a seat. Leah came back and gave me the pictures.
She gave me two envelops and I put the pictures inside the two envelops and thanked her before grabbing my bag. "If you need anything just call me." Leah gave me a hug and pulled away while rubbing my stomach slightly.
I nodded at her and walked out of her office, saying goodbye to the receptionist, and walked out of the building.
I was having two babies.
