Chương 12: Tension

Adam nudged Zinc with his right foot and he groaned.

"Are you crazy," Brendan exclaimed. "Why did you run off with her like that?"

Brendan's angry voice grated on Zinc's nerves.

If that blonde Ken doll continued shouting at him like that things were going to get ugly.

No answer.

Zinc stirred.

So they knew he was alive next to the unconscious Charm.

"Calm down," said Adam soothingly. "Stop shouting at him Brendan. The answers are going to have to wait."

Connor chipped in for support, "Adam's right, we need to board the yacht and head back to the pier."

Adam was relieved that someone besides himself was thinking rationally.

"We can radio the others to let them know that we found them," said Adam. "The coast guard can call off the search since they are both alive and somewhat well."

Having not fully recovered from his recent near death experience Brendan still had his arm around Adam's neck for support.

Brendan's whole body was racked with tension and he looked like he wanted to attack Zinc for running off with Charm.

Up to now Adam still had no clue why the normally mild tempered Brendan reacted so violently when he saw Zinc run off with Charm in his hands.

Pain had been etched on Brendan's face as he begged his friends to help him go after them.

It was a shock to find the two passed out on the sand, in Adam's mind, there was no feasible explanation.

Everything about the events of today was just plain weird and Adam felt drained.

The tension amongst them was so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Brendan was no stranger to beautiful girls.

What was so different about Charm that Brendan was ready to risk it all for her?

If it wasn't for Adam holding him back Brendan probably would have flung himself at Zinc.

So great was his anger towards him.

Adam knew that later when they were alone and talking privately Brendan would not thank him for interference.

Turning his attention to Zinc.

Adam asked, "Can you move?"

Zinc nodded.

Connor, another of Brendan's circle, held out a hand for Zinc to grab and helped him to stand on his feet.

Even though he was wobbling, unconsciously Zinc moved to bend and pick up Charm.

But Brendan stopped him with an arm to his shoulder, he tightened his grip as if to emphasize his next statement.

Brendan snarled, "Don't you dare touch her."

Zinc stared helplessly into Charm's face for a second, then he looked away.

Her eyes were still closed.

As long as Zinc lived he would never forget the mesmerizing color of her eyes, an unusual shade of blue, mysterious yet beautiful.

"Let Connor carry her to the yacht," said Brendan.

There was a hint of disapproval in his voice which Zinc ignored.

Zinc could care less what others thought of him, their opinions could not pay his way through life.

Connor's powerful arms lifted Charm like she weighed less than a Barbie doll.

He stared at her for a while before following Adam's lead and heading back to the yacht with the others.

Watching Connor lift Charm up so effortlessly while Connor leered at her curves made Zinc hands unconsciously clenched into his fists at his side.

When he became aware he instantly released them for Zinc realized it was pointless to feel this way, his cheeks grew hot.

It was weird thinking of Charm that way when she lay in Connor's arms unconscious.

Still he couldn't deny that she was beyond beautiful and he was attracted to her.

Zinc knew that he had said the incantation correctly.

When she woke up she wouldn't remember that he healed her.

In her eyes he wouldn't be a hero, just a creep who ran off with her half naked body on the beach.

He wouldn't be surprised if the next time Charm saw him she slapped Zinc across the face for his transgression.

A part of him could still feel her fear and panic as she trembled in his arms.

Now was not the time to be wondering if Charm would be open to going out with Zinc.

Normally these kinds of wayward thoughts never crossed his mind since he was driven to rise to the top of his game.

From the moment he crossed paths with Charm his thinking had not been the same.

What was her type? Whatever it was, it surely wasn't him.

Zinc was a loner, very introverted, he saw the world in a different light.

Sometimes Zinc paid dearly for his curiosity but he would never regret what made him who he is today.

Seeing Brandon and his friends coming his direction the Captain started up the engine.

Eager to be off the waters before the storm that was brewing in the distance reached them.

The yacht rocked on the waters, the waves were coming in bigger and the Captain was yelling at them to tighten their vests and sit down for the ride back to the pier.

No sooner had they lifted the anchor out of the water, and were miles away from the shoreline.

Did they all see something that had them scared for their lives?

Out of nowhere the sky darkened and streaks of lightning lit up the sky, followed by the loud rumbling of thunder.

The captain told everyone to head down below deck as hail started to pelt the yacht with ferocity.

As if to compete with the howling winds that rocked the boat wildly.

Everyone on board panicked, wondering if the yacht was going to capsize like the Titanic.

Several water spouts were rapidly forming in the direction they would take to reach the pier to return to Brian Cumming and the others.

To Zinc the water spouts appeared like seven wide columns.

Angry wet tornadoes that were growing larger with every minute that passed and pulling everything in the water towards them.

Even the Captain was flabbergasted; it was like the perfect storm was forming on the unpredictable sea.

Other than a mention of slight rain in the weather report that morning it was supposed to be the typical day for smooth sailing.

This kind of temperamental weather was unexpected even for an experienced sailor like the Captain.

It was a beautiful, once in a lifetime but frightening sight to see and still Charm's eyes remain closed oblivious to the commotion and panic around her.

The Captain felt he had no choice but to avoid the water spouts by taking them safely to the next closest destination, Isla Serpiente.
