When Charlton entered the hall, he already saw Serena in his peripheral vision. He felt her gaze lingering, and for a moment, he was tempted to look at her. He wanted to see what expression she was wearing. Not because he was hoping for something, but just out of pure curiosity.

However, he has been prepared and knew that if he does, it might give away his intention and all his careful planning would be wasted. Besides, he must face his uncle, the king, first. Thus, he continued walking forward.

Though he secretly held animosity against his uncle, he was able to keep it in and has even successfully pleased him.

Now, what he did not expect was that he would be asked to perform the opening dance with a partner of his choosing.

That did not mean, however, that he did not understood the implications.

He already had his suspicions, and his uncle's words only confirmed it.
