Chương 5: Day Eight
My body ached with exhaustion. It's been eight days since the Gagamba seized our school. Eight days in hiding. Eight days of clearing area by area. Eight days of wandering if the entire world was like this or if it was just in our perimeter.
"Tobin?" Axel knocked on the door.
"Yeah, come in." I stated laying in the bed.
"Dalian was requesting Ryder's attendance and said you would know where to find him." He stood nervously in my room. I nodded.
"You go get some rest, you look exhausted from last nights look out." The bags under his eyes looking fake on his pale skin. He nodded and with that he left. Xonnie hasn't spoken to me since the day she showed me who she was and 'Dalian' only spoke to me through the other people. I stood up and tapped twice on the bracelet and left the room, making way to the main hall.
When getting into the main room I saw the majors circled up. Mr and Mrs. Stevens, Dalian, Mr. Fetcher, and my mother.
"Stevens." I approached the group. They all turned to me.
"We have news." Everyone looked serious. I stiffened. My mother stepped up and handed me a piece of paper. It read;
"To whom it may concern,
I know you're afraid. You should be. I've been in hiding for eight days along with you. We do not know much about these predators who have invaded our perimeter, but we do know they are only here. The rest of the world is unaware of what is going on at this time. Nor do we want to inform them to keep away from any spreading. We are also aware that these creatures are huge beast and can cause mass amounts or injuries if hit by their mad claws or legs. My force has yet to be attacked by one so if you have any other information for us, please do share. This is Force 2. Force 1 is at the Franksford high school, due to the fact that Ryder and Dalian have made base there. Force 3 is in the outer skirts of town. We had found a Force 4 but have not heard from them for a few days. We can only assume the worst but hope for the best.
-Mayor Penelope."
I looked back up at the group.
"This is real?" I asked. They all nodded slowly.
"Where did it come from?"I asked setting it down on the table.
"Morse code. We have a set up in one of the back rooms and luckily Mr. Fetcher knows the code and he has been able to communicate with other ti some extent." Mrs. Stevens shuffled her feet as she stood tall. I looked down at the letter my hands on either side of it as I leaned down into it.
There are other survivors. Why haven't they sent word sooner. I thought it was just us. And why aren't we able to contact the other forces. Why doesn't the Mayor just do what's best and call the government. Who cares about spread. If we don't take them out while they are fresh who know how many there will be. They can multiply. I hit my head. Damnit.
"Ryder.." Dalian came up to me. I looked up at her. Oh no. She doesn't get to try now. It's been seven days of me trying to speak to her and she runs away. I glared at her darkly and a sad look wiped away her worry. She dropped her hands as I then turned to Mr. Stevens.
"I want a response made quickly." I snapped orders out. They all left to make it happen.
"Ryder, can we please talk," she fiddled with her hair. Adorable.
"Maybe later, I have to go scout out areas." I jumped back up to the ledge. And looked in the courtyard.
"RYDER, DUDE," Axel yelled at me. I jumped down to speak to him, "Man you have to let me help you," he begged.
"You can't. You don't have the powers Dalian and I have." I started to turn away when he pleaded some more.
" I don't care! Please there has got to be something."
I thought for a second. More help would be beneficial. I do have more power up jewels. But I don't think he can't handle it, it could turn into a disastrous mess.
"Fine. Come with me." I started to go back to my room. Axel followed on my heels.
"You follow my orders while we are out there. Don't you dare think that you can handle it by yourself. Cause trust me," I glared at him, "you can't." He nodded and entered my room with me. I glanced back and he was looking at my photos.
"Tobin," he asked. I smiled at him.
"Present."
Axel clapped his hands, "That's insane. I couldn't even tell. Your hair now is black but when you're Tobin it's brown, that's so cool."
I rummaged through my drawer and found a box.
"Here," I handed him a ring, "put it on." He studied it for a second and then slid it on his finger.
"Tap it twice." And he did. A glow filled the room. And his suit was on.
"What animal do I look like," he bounced up and down. "I know Dalian is a Dove, you're a Wolf, what am I?"
I pulled a mirror out to show him.
"A fox. That's sweet. And dude my hair! It's orange," he touched it as though it may fall off.
"Yes, now let's go." We exited the room only to run into Dalian.
"Who's this?" She stood shocked.
"This is.." I stopped.
"Names Vix." He stuck his hand out and Dalian shook it.
"So you're going out now?" Dalian asked.
"And Vix is going with me." I pushed past her. Why am I mad at her? It's my fault for coming onto her. Idiot.
"Tob uh Ryder," Vix caught up with me, "what's the plan."
"Your unique power is to scout and pin point things." I explained, "so for this I would like you to help me. We are going to find the most crowded spots and the least crowded spots. The least we can save for a later date to clear out and the crowded we will come up with a plan to slowly clear."
Vix nodded his head, "I see." Vix followed my every move and soon enough we were out in an open plain.
"Sense any?" I asked. He closed his eyes and touched the ground.
"Don't move." Vix whispered. You've got to be joking.
"Where at," I slowly started to grab my staff.
"There are 2 of them.."
"Where?!" I asked sharply.
"They're right-"
A huge claw came out of no where and hit Vix across the field into a bush group. Great. Two against one. My blade extended. This should be fun. Running at them wildly I tried to think of a plan. Dalian is going to kill me if I get injured again. One swung at me as I dropped to my knees and slid under it, cutting its belly. I jumped to my feet and turned towards it, watching it fall to the ground.
"RYDER WATCH OUT!" I heard Vix shout. I started to turn around when a claw when straight through my gut. My eyes widened. I got my blade and sliced the arm off, falling to the ground with it.
"That all you got," I smiled while wiping the blood from my mouth. The Gagamba screeched in pain, it's blue blood splattering everywhere. My legs started to give in and got wobbly. I took a few steps forwards, towards the monster when I fell to the ground and everything went black.
