Beneath my skin, each bone inside my body trembled and my heart raced over a mile away. Yet Rome and Rose looked unfazed like Kai wasn't intimidating them.
"Nothing, we're just taking a walk," Rose prevaricate with a smile on her face. Despite Kai's angry appearance she wasn't threatened by him in the least.
Although when he eyed me a chill crawled up my spine. "And who broke her out?" Kai asked, looking between Rose and Rome as if he was trying to figure out who was the culpable one here.
"This time it wasn't me!" Rome whimsically laughed and Kai narrowed his eyes meanly at Rose.
"Be grumpy about it all you want but you can't allow her to scream like that!" Rose gave it to him straight without any fear.
Very closely, I studied Kai and his expression softened but he appeared gall.
Then his eyes looked at the painting behind my head and he veered back at Rose and complained. "Don't tell me, you did what I think you did?"
"If you mean I showed her that you didn't break her laptop. Then you are mistaken, it was all Rome," Rose outwardly equivocated to toy with him. Kai shook his head like he already didn't believe her. And Rome laughed up a lung like the typical dunce that he is.
"If you're going to lie, at least put more effort into it," Kai said like he wasn't even mad.
His temper was rather calm compared to how I thought this was going to play out.
"How did you even know the combination?" Kai randomly asked, Rose.
Rome chuckled mockingly, "like that's hard to figure out!"
Both Rome and Rose giggled to know Kai a little too well but he rolled his eyes at them laughing.
Then he went around the chair I sat in and I heard him open up his vault. After he closed it up and locked it. He set my laptop down on the desk in front of me.
"You're giving it back?" I asked as he was walking away to leave.
"I might as well since you know the truth," Kai stated at the doorway and I noticed his eyes tamed down to that beautiful agate color.
He looked like a man. One extremely desirable man that would make any woman faint over.
"Will you please let me go?" I stood up and asked him since he seemed nonchalant. A daring move, it was on my part but I wanted to be with Orlando.
"Why?" Kai asked as if he was toying with me.
"I don't wanna be turned into a vampiress," I held in my tears. "Please let me be happy and grow old with Orlando. I know we are supposedly mates but I'm sorry. I care about you but I just don't love you. I love Orlando."
Dead silence filled the room. A pin could drop and we'd all hear it fortissimo in a clash to the floor. Yet I saw in Kai's eyes nothing but sadness. But I had to say how I felt in hopes he'd set me free.
Just as quickly, his eyes changed bloodred and I backed away when he stepped forward. "Am I to understand you'd give up your baby for a man that cheats behind your back?" He said so coldly and I didn't know how to answer him. "Or let me guess, you still don't believe you're pregnant with my offspring?"
He pretty much said it for me. Truth be told, I didn't know what to think. Anybody in their right mind would probably be thinking the same thing as me. I was still adjusting to the idea that vampires are real. Then to think I had one growing inside my belly was too far-fetched for me to believe right now. In so many ways, I was hoping I'm not pregnant.
Instead of speaking, I only shook my head to confirm his conclusion. Kai slightly motioned his head and then he backed away and left his office without saying anything more.
I did all I could to hold back tears. Honestly, I felt horrible telling Kai how I felt and at the same time, I am torn about Orlando. I kinda remember reading how it hurts a vampire not to have his mate love him back because another vampire had her heart. But that wasn't the case here because Orlando and I are both humans naturally in love with one another.
Then with Kai's threat over my head, I couldn't even tell Orlando the truth about any of this, or else I know Kai will kill him. Which also makes me surprised that he hasn't killed Orlando yet. Then again, Rose revealed that Kai won't actually cross the lines with anything I care about. Perhaps that's why he hasn't done it? But whoever the Vampire Covenant is would be the ones that would do it. Therefore I have to make sure Orlando and my friends stay safe from knowing the truth.
"Why don't we go check out the library? Perhaps, reading some books would help calm your mind." Rose came beside me saying as I was still contemplating. "Rome, why don't you take Victoria's laptop to her bedroom."
Rome kinda nodded and stood up with my laptop and then vanished before our eyes. All I felt was a wind gush by me. Now that I can recall, I felt that one too many times since I met Kai. This was so mind-blowing right now. Sure fact now, I knew Rome was a vampire. Seeing how Rose is a vampiress. Now I know Jack, Glenn, Ace, and Ivan are vampires too.
I thought when Rose led me to this rather large library I never knew was here.
It looked so much like the one in beauty and the beast. Only it was far more beautiful and extraordinary. It even had a cozy fireplace in the back.
"Reading always helps me calm down," Rose smiled as I was wandering my eyes about the entire huge space.
Together, we picked a book and sat over by the fireplace. I took a seat on the fluffy throw rug on the floor and Rose sat in a rocking chair.
Shortly after, Rome came back and sat down with us in a chair. As I was flipping through page after page about vampires. Only the book was more about vamp babies and how they're very attached to their parents. More so with their mother, since she carried him or her, depending if you're having a boy or girl. Yet the more I kept reading the more it kept guilting me out, if I found out I am pregnant. Could I really leave my immortal child?
