Blood splattered and flew within the room while those who were still alive kept screaming. Lights flickered on and off, which made it hard to see what was going on. Throughout the room, bloody bodies were on the floor everywhere my eyes could focus close enough to see. Only then did I realize that they were my team members! Blood covered their white coats and stained the floor in dark red.
As my neck kept turning in every direction, I tried finding the culprit that was killing them. Everywhere I looked, blood fleshly splashed on the walls each time I'd hear someone dying in agonizing pain. Then, I'd hear something scurrying and whipping around with unnaturally fast speed.
One of the dead bodies was suddenly thrown across the room, as his body was covered in blood when he hit the wall. I looked through the flicking, darkly lit room, and caught a sudden glimpse of something that looked like a dried-out corpse. Unfortunately, before I could make out what it was, it disappeared before I had any chance to see its full features.
"N-No! Noo!" I heard Tom scream before his voice gurgled into this creepy sound of him dying.
"Victoria! Come back to me!" Kai shouted like he was here with me.
"Kai?" I yelled over the dying horrified screams.
"Yes, come back to me!" Kai said again and I couldn't believe we could hear each other. Nobody can communicate with me while I am in between times.
Suddenly, the screams in the darkroom were all but dead silent. The only sounds I heard was a light voltage zapping from above the ceiling.
"Get out of there, Victoria!" Kai hollered.
"I can't leave!" I cried, looking around to only see bloody dead bodies and blood covering the room between the flashing darkness. "I don't wanna leave. I have to see what happened in Egypt!"
"You don't need to see it!" Kai argued in desperation.
"I don't have control of this curse, Kai! I can't just leave and I don't wanna leave," I cried out to him as I heard something whip behind me.
I turned and saw nothing but blood on the walls, and things were quiet again until I heard a metal door open.
"Welcome back..." I heard this familiar voice, but it was cut out by another voice coming through elsewhere before I could figure out whose voice it was.
"Victoria... come back to me," I felt something gently caressing my temples. "I can help you control it, my love."
Muffled voices began talking, though I couldn't make out what was being said anymore as darkness cloaked my eyes.
"No, I don't want to leave," I cried when my eyes opened to see Kai gazing at me with his hand cupping the side of my face. "I need to know what happened."
Kai gave me the softest look and said gently. "You don't need to know what happened. It will only further break your heart."
I lost control of my sobbing and he hugged me against his chest. I gripped underneath his ribcage tightly and cried harder as heavy tears streamed from my eyelids. Kai held me as he rubbed my back and petted my hair while he cooed to soothe me.
~~~
I cried out for a good while until my crying stopped. "How did you do that?" I whispered when I slowly sat my head up from laying on his chest, looking at him lying comfortably back on the pillows.
"Do what?" Kai asked me like he was trying to avoid my question by playing dumb.
"Nobody has ever been able to communicate with me through the time gap.'" I said repeating my question. "How were you able to do that?"
Kai gave me this knowingly smile. "One day I'll explain that to you but not today."
I didn't bother trying to pry. Instead, I laid down on his chest and we both fell asleep.
During the next morning, Kai was gone but informed me through a texted that he'll be back around dinner. With him gone, I talked to Crystal for a bit after I took my shower.
After breakfast, I took my laptop to a private sunroom and typed the words "blood-sucking monster" in the search bar, then waited for my results to load. Momentarily, I got the results of vampires and other demonic creatures. I borrowed around, reading and looking at spooky pictures.
"None of these things would actually exist," I told myself while scrolling through different websites. I googled what a blood-sucking monster would mean during the ancient Egypt dynasties. Vampire. This is the only clear result I could get. Vampire nerd or not, I know this isn't a logical explanation.
My memories flash back to seeing blood dripping down that Egyptian girl's neck. Her wound assembled that of a vampire's fangs had bit her.
"Lunch will be ready soon," I jumped out of my seat from someone speaking behind me. I turned around and saw Mr. Collin there with a bright smile. "My apologies, Victoria, I didn't mean to startle you."
"No, it's ok," I gasped, calming my heart rate down. "I was so caught up in doing some..." My voice veered off when I looked back at my laptop that showed websites about vampires and images of them.
"I can see why I startled you," Mr. Collin chuckled, teasingly. "I'd be creeped out too."
I couldn't help but chuckle with him. "I'll go return my laptop and have lunch," I said, shutting my laptop down before I stood from the chair.
"I'll see you in the dining room," said Mr. Collin as he turned his heel to walk out. So suddenly, there was a question that nagged at me.
"Mr. Collin," I spoke so low and soft that I was surprised he heard me when I second guessed whether I should ask him this question or not.
"Yes, Victoria?" he inquired, turning back around with a soft, youthful gaze from those cosmetic surgeries, as I thought about how I wanted to ask him this question.
"I was curious to ask about what happened to the Pharaoh my team and I found back in Egypt?" I asked, feeling partly nervous.
To add to my anxiety, Mr. Collin didn't speak right away before he answered with sincerity. "Unfortunately, the Pharaoh's remains that "you discovered" had been stolen after your team was murdered."
I sort of gestured my head in understanding before he touched my shoulder. "I am truly sorry for everything you have gone through. I know this hasn't been easy, but I am glad to see you and Kai are doing better together." Mr. Collin smiled softly and then left the room.
His kindness was a lot to take in, as I noticed how he empathized on how I found the Pharaoh. He'd known I was the one responsible for finding the Pharaoh, yet he...
'I fired you to keep you safe.' Mr. Collin confessed to me during the first time I met him after being bailed out of jail.
Again, that Egyptian girl's words haunt me, 'You've woken the blood-sucking monster!'
As I can recall in my time-gap; Susie was trying to get out but someone outside the door had locked them in. Like something nonhuman was in there with them, but that isn't possible...
