Chương 4: The disappointing outcome
When the old man asked the question, it hurt Chen Jie Xuan. Tears welled up in her eyes. But all she can do is suppress her feeling and stay calm.
Yang Yuan noticed the changes in Chen Jie Xuan's mood and naturally wrapped his hand around her shoulder and reached out for her bag to get the tissues for her.
Upon seeing that she is about to break into tears, The old man sighed and called her. "Jie Xuan"
She raised her head and looked at the old man. Her eyes resembled the child's. They are pure, Innocent yet it is different as are elegant, and mature. On seeing those eyes, He couldn't bring himself up to further Scold her. He waved his hand signaling her to get close to him while calling out for her, "Come here."
She silently rose and walked next to him. He took her hand as he made her sit next to him. " Jie Xuan, Do you blame grandpa for making such a decision?"
She shook her head. Though she wants to spend time with her child, She also knows that she is not a qualified mom to take care of her child.
"Then tell me what's the problem and why I take issue with that idea?", He asked as he stroked her hand.
"Because... Because we are not competent enough to do so.", She once mildly heard him telling her parents about it. And that is why she agreed to follow his arrangement.
"You..." He turned towards Yang Yuan who was still sitting on the side and asked, "Does she the only one present here? Don't you know how to talk? Come and explain why I think you guys are incompetent?"
His voice brought back him from his guilt. He was not quick with his reply as he was still in a daze. Seeing how unattentive he is, The old man snorted and lashed out," Let me deal with you later. You are the reason for all this, and yet you are still...", He coughed
Yang yuan doesn't know how to react. He handed the tissues he took for Jie Xuan to his grandpa. Grandpa yang shook his hand and controlled his anger.
It took a minute for him to calm down. when he calmed down, He said in low voice, " Do you guys really didn't figure it out?"
His voice carried a hint of disappointment. He thought that giving these two some time will make them realize what is important and let them grow and be mature. But the outcome disappointed him.
"Forget it. If you guys can't figure it out, Let me tell you openly. Having Ah Jie was an unforeseen thing that happened in your life. I know you guys didn't mind it. But you guys cannot deny the fact that you guys suffered a lot at that time. At that time.." While he was speaking they heard a loud cry.
"Ahhh...."
They know it is Yang Ai Jie who was crying. All three got up and ran towards her room upstairs. When they reached the room they saw, yang Ai Jie sitting on the floor and crying.
With no thought, yang Yuan and Chen Jie Xuan rushed and held her in their embrace. They didn't know what happened. All they know was their baby is crying and they want to pacify her.
But in the end, They let her cry her voice out. When the baby felt that her voice got dried, It stopped crying. and only then did the two starts talking.
"Ah Jie, What happened? Why did you cry? Did anyone do anything to you? ", It was Yang Yuan who asked.
Though he is indifferent and inattentive towards others. He has never been the same when it comes to Yang Ai Jie. The same goes for Chen Jie Xuan. She can be cold and aloof to anyone. even towards yang Yuan. But her heart will hurt when it comes to Ai Jie. She knows very well than anyone else about Ai Jie's condition.
Yang Ai Jie was a premature baby who was born after a C-section in the seventh month of pregnancy. She was underweight and had been weak since then. It made the couple feel guiltier and want to cherish and protect Ai Jie more than anyone else. In Chen Jie Xuan's opinion, If someone has to be blamed, It was she and Yang Yuan. If not for them being at fault, Ai Jie wouldn't have suffered that much as a child.
Though she gave birth to her, She had never been at her side and that made her even guiltier. It Was Grandpa yang who is raising Ai Jie. Despite being her parents they are only allowed to spend time with her occasionally not to mention with the Classes at University.
After controlling her sob, Ai Jie started to voice out why she cried. "The fishes that grandpa brought for me died." And she started to cry again. This time her voice was not that loud but her sobs were even heavier than before.
