His eyes flickered for some time before finally opening. His vision was blurry at first but it took only a few seconds to get clear.
'Where am I?' he said internally while slowly gazing around the luxurious room where he lay.
The bed he was lying on was so comfortable that he felt like going back to sleep but when he remembered his death along with the strange voice and screen, his eyes widened as he immediately sat up.
He observed the room in more detail.
The style and design were like that of an 18th-century royalty but the materials used were something the 21st century could only wish for.
The windows were wide open and he could hear some clanging sounds coming from outside.
The air he was breathing was much purer than his former world.
Before he could dwell further in his thoughts, the golden screen which had appeared after his death, materialized once more in front of him.
He moved slightly backward due to shock before reading what was written.
[Congratulations! Host has successfully transmigrated]
[Host can now use some system functions]
This disappeared, being replaced by new words.
[Status] [Quests]
[Other hidden functions would be available soon]
[System remark: that is if host stays alive]
'Why make it sound like that?' he murmured after reading the last part.
'So this is a system. I remember reading some things about them....but to think I'll get one!' he was shocked by this and wondered whether it was something that happened occasionally or he was just too lucky.
'This means I'm in a totally different world. I have to adapt quickly if I want to survive.'
He looked around the room once more as a smile appeared on his face. "It seems that I'm from a wealthy family, which means that money, the most important materialistic thing is a check. This system really knows its stuff.
Now, I have to know how much power and influence my family has and if it's not enough, I have to look for a way to expand it.
Thankfully, I learnt a lot of business skills in my past life, courtesy of Dad and mum's nagging. So I should be able to get successful in this life quickly if I play my cards right.
I promise to not waste this life given to me and I would accomplish all that I couldn't in my past life."
The scene of his former fiancé and his uncle kissing flashed in his mind causing him to grit his teeth in anger and he wished that he would meet them again so that they can experience hell on earth.
"It would be a pain to learn from scratch in this world, but I believe that with your help, we can do this. What do you think system?"
[...]
"Why are you quiet? Say something. Don't tell me you're surprised by my dedication and evaluation?" he said before a bitter smile appeared on his face.
"It's not that I'm very impressive. I just swore not to waste this life that was given to me," he folded his fist.
Still seeing no response from the system, he let out a sigh. Now that he put his mind to it, he noticed that the skin on his hand was pale and he was too thin.
A frown appeared on his face as he remembered that he was now in a different body.
He looked towards the full-length mirror not too far from him before coming out of his bed dressed in bogus pajamas.
It wasn't that it was too big but rather it was he who was just too thin.
He walked to the mirror and when he saw his reflection his jaws dropped as he blinked several times in shock.
He was in the body of a 16-year old and his body condition was worse than expected. He was too skinny and totally pale with bags under his exhausted golden eyes with his black hair being quite scanty.
His condition was nothing but attractive but he could tell that it would be very handsome if properly taken care of.
It seemed that he was reincarnated as a broom sick either ways.
He was beginning to think if he was a beggar, picked up by the roadside by someone kind, which would end up creating some problems in his plan to success.
He shifted his gaze slightly downwards where a paper with writing was stuck.
"Get well soon Art." He read what was written aloud. "I guess my name is Art then."
Throughout this entire time, he had been hearing clanging sounds which finally drew his attention and he decided to check it out.
He slowly walked towards the window due to the exhaustion he felt and when he got there, he looked below, sighting two people both wielding swords.
One of them was panting profusely, while the other who was older casually stared at him. "What's wrong? Don't tell me you're finished?"
"Like hell I am!" the boy screamed while giving it his best to stand up. After successfully doing this, he pointed his sword at the man with a determined expression written all over his sweaty face.
Shortly after, his feet shifted before blasting forward at a speed which shocked Art.
'How can he move that fast? How much training has he been through? Am I in the barracks or something? And they seem to still use swords.'
Art observed their fighting style, and with the martial arts and weapons training he received from his former world, he had to commend them. But he was confused with the speed they were moving at, with a thought now coming to mind, which was proven shortly after.
"Eh?" He exclaimed in shock as he stared at the boy who was around his age now giving off a blue glow around his body and weapon.
"I see you've learned it. Now let's see how much you can do." The man said, moving his fingers with a 'bring it on.'
"Arghhhhh!!!" the boy shouted before blasting forward much faster than before.
He swung the sword towards the neck of the man, who smiled slightly before catching it with just two fingers as a wave spread across the vicinity.
"Not bad." The man nodded
"T- T- Th- This." Art stammered in disbelief almost losing his balance after watching this. "That wasn't normal. Don't tell me this is a fantasy world."
Others might get excited by this, but that wasn't the case for him. He was someone who quickly processed the kind of situation he was in, and he knew that surviving in a world like this would be very difficult, if not impossible.
As for the reason for him thinking like this, he looked back at his reflection in the mirror with annoyance in his eyes.
"Curse you system!"
