Chương 1: The most 'Punctual' employee

"Miss, the fare." The taxi driver shouted before jumping out of the car.

Halting her steps, Evelyn slapped her forehead and quickly rushed towards the taxi. "I am so sorry, I—" Grabbing a fifty dollar note from her bag, she shoved it in the drivers hand before running inside the building.

"Miss, your change—" Before the driver could call her out, she was nowhere to be seen. Looking at the fifty dollar note, he sighed before slipping it inside his pocket.

….

Inside the building.

"Excuse me, please—sorry—" Squeezing herself inside the elevator, Evelyn quickly pressed the seventh floor button and impatiently waited for the elevator to ascend. Glancing at her watch, she nervously bit her lips and kept staring at the floor numbers which were slowly changing.

As soon as the door opened, she squeezed herself out and rushed towards the meeting room.

7th floor.

Mellow Melodies(M&M) Entertainment Headquarters.

Meeting room.

"We—" Stopping midway, Davis Miller, the department head of M&M Entertainment which was one of the leading and best music and audio companies, smiled at Evelyn who was late for the third consecutive day. "Welcome Ms.Evelyn Simmons, I am so sorry for not welcoming you with a garland but we can welcome you with a warm round applause."

Looking at the employees, he added, "Ladies and gentlemen, let's congratulate our very punctual colleague for coming late again. Let's give her a roaring round applause."

"I—" Interrupted by a sudden roaring applause, Evelyn sighed in dejection before looking at her friend, Holly who had also joined the crowd.

Crossing his arms in the front, Davis queried, "Now will you please grace us with the reason behind your third late arrival of the week?"

"I had to—I," she stuttered before looking at Holly with pleading eyes, silently asking her for some help by using the infamous best friend telepathy.

"She was working late last night." Looking at Davis, Holly further added, "She was working on the article you wanted her to complete by the end of this week. She wanted to complete it beforehand to impress you so—"

Interrupting Holly, Davis raised his brows at Evelyn who was still standing by the door. "Did you finish it?"

"Not yet but I just have a small section left so—"

"Great, I want it by the end of the day." Rubbing his hands together, he remarked, "Okay, so where was I—" Flipping through the papers which were sitting right in front of him, Davis was about to continue the meeting when he realized something. Looking at Evelyn, he stated, "Do you want me to personally guide you to your seat?"

Coming out of her daze, she quickly rushed towards the empty chair beside Holly. Without wasting any more time, she settled down before grabbing her notebook and pen to jot down the pointers of the meeting.

Slowly leaning towards Evelyn, Holly whispered "You haven't started the article yet, right?"

"Not even a word," she whispered back.

"Well, at least you are not fired so be thankful for that."

"I will get fired after I fail to submit the article by the end of the day," Evelyn muttered.

Twenty-eight years old Evelyn Simmons was a native of Ansbert, a city in Molvania. She had a shapely figure in an imp-thin body. Her coral black hair plunged over her shoulder which was always coiled up in a messy bun. Her lilac soft lips, slender eyebrows, velvety eyelashes and glossy skin added to her beauty.

After completing her graduation from one of the top music and arts universities, she had joined Mellow Melodies as an intern five years ago along with her middle school best friend Holly Rivera. Both of them were later hired in the company as permanent employees.
